My last review was written from a relatively naive POV. Having interacted with more fans of the movie, I can now see how problematic it is due to a mere omission of certain scenes and information from the source material. Alan Moore is fully aware that the character of Rorschach is very appealing to many fans because of his strong moral compass. He knew what he was doing when writing this character. And as with any of the major characters in the book, Rorschach has his flaws. The book deliberately presents ugly sides to every character in attempts to dismantle the concept of a superhero, as it simply cannot contain the complexity of a human psyche. Thus, Rorschach, being the most appealing character, has the most ugly side to him: he is a racist and a mysoginist. It is very apparent when reading the book and clearly conveyed in his diaries, if you couldn't tell from his behaviour and statements that he makes. Yet in the film most of his diaries are omitted, as well as any scenes that portray him in a obviously negative light. Which presents his more morally ambiguous actions as "cool" and "heroic". Thus he ends up serving as a perfect role model for right-wingers of all kinds. After I saw how many people ONLY watch the movie and completely misinterpret the source material, I cannot endorse this film even as a flawed adaptation. It would be a lie to say this movie isn't biased in favour of Rorschach. Which not only destroys the whole point of the book (that nobody is a hero), but also promotes violence and mysoginy. Which in turn frames Alan Moore as a conservative to all these dumbasses who wouldn't research anything. In conclusion, fuck this movie.
