a review of 美国战队:世界警察
In the purely comedic sense, it's alright. It has some genuinely funny moments, but also exhibits the very flaws that started to plague South Park in its later seasons. In particular, their attempts to mock serious media by repeating its very tropes. Just because it's self-aware doesn't make it not a chore to watch. But beyond the humour itself, what is this movie trying to achieve really? Someone mentioned that it's critical of American foreign policy. I don't think that's true. I think it's just making fun of action movies, maybe the propaganda machine at best. But it does not concern itself with truth. It doesn't criticize the propaganda for lying and manipulating American populace. It simply takes the position of an annoyed viewer, who is tired of seeing the same crap. It is equally, if not more, dismissive of the Middle East, its culture and its people. This is an American movie for Americans and about Americans. And in this sense I have no interest in it. I cannot empathize with the plight of having to watch dumb action movies. It's honestly kinda gross, selfish and ignorant, considering the subject matter.
