"Imagine looking out of your window each morning, the same window with each day giving you a unique emotion setting your mood for the day" - Ludovico Einaudi
Ludovico Einaudi is back with a new project, Seven Days Walking: seven releases spanning seven months, featuring a new combination of piano/cello/violin but with a return to his trademark sound that has made him one of the most important and relevant composers today.
The project takes the idea of the same walk done over seven days, but each day the experience is different due to a variety of factors – the weather, the season, the walker's mood, the appearance of different wildlife, a new observation within the landscape and so on.
The first instalment, Seven Days Walking (Day 1), is significant as it establishes the project theme. The subsequent six variations on this theme (Seven Days Walking Days 2 to 7) will be released later this year and will feature stunning cello and violin arrangements, apart from Day 7 which is solely piano. This is essential Einaudi listening.

Alt-classical composer/pianist Ludovico Einaudi returns with a brand new album ‘Elements’ released on 16th October on the Decca label.
With that in mind Music-News.com caught up with Ludovico Einaudi at Decca HQ in London to find out more. Check out our exclusive interview below.
Einaudi has quietly become one of the most successful musicians on the planet. His hauntingly beautiful and evocative music tops the classical charts worldwide, particularly here in the UK and in his home country Italy) and he has sold over 1.5 million records. He is the biggest streamed classical artist in the UK with over 130 million streams – that’s more than Pavarotti and Bocelli, and neck a neck with current chart stars Years & Years.
‘Elements’ was recorded this year at his studio in the Italian countryside. It is inspired by the world around him: nature’s elements (earth, water, air, and fire) as well as the lines of the grass and hills, mathematical and scientific elements, musical form and works of arts including those by Paul Klee and Gustav Klimt. Einaudi created the album’s cover artwork himself – drawing a variety of different symbols and illustrations, which combine to stunning effect.
Einaudi’s music has been heard by millions worldwide – especially through adverts, trailers, film scores and TV soundtracks. He has provided music for more than 20 films including Shane Meadows’ ‘This Is England’ film and the TV sequel ‘This Is England ‘86’, for which he earned a BAFTA nomination, as well as ‘Black Swan’ (starring Oscar winner Natalie Portman) and Ricky Gervais’ TV series ‘Derek’.
Einaudi has performed to huge crowds at venues around the world and has even achieved a Top 40 pop hit thanks to a BBC Radio 1 campaign by DJ Greg James. His recent UK dates include sell-out performances at Blenheim Palace, Hammersmith Apollo, Barbican and headlining the iTunes festival at the Roundhouse.
His music has been described as minimalist, alt-classical, ambient and contemporary, but it defies easy classification. He sums it up best: “There is something in it that comes from classical, but I have influences from different music I have experienced in my life, from African music to folk and rock.”
This latest album brings together a musical alchemy that draws on elements of electronicam, world, rock and classical music – reflecting Einaudi’s unique position on the international music scene.

‘Seven Days Walking’: seven bodies of music to be released over seven consecutive months. The first, ‘Seven Days Walking: Day One’, which interweaves piano and strings in his unmistakable style, is Einaudi’s 14th studio album and will be released on 15th March, on Decca. ‘Seven Days Walking: Day Two’ follows a month later. Each ‘day’ is then released, digitally, a month apart, leading up to ‘Day Seven’ which will be released in the autumn in a box-set of the complete Seven Days. Inspiration for the entire project derived from walks that Einaudi would take through the mountains in winter. He explains, "In January last year I often went for long walks in the mountains, always following more or less the same trail. It snowed heavily, and my thoughts roamed free inside the storm, where all shapes, stripped bare by the cold, lost their contours and colours. Perhaps that feeling of extreme essence was the origin of this album." The first album focuses on several main themes, which then recur in different forms on the following albums – seven variations following the same imaginary itinerary. Or the same itinerary, retraced at seven different times.

Product Description
Composer/pianist Ludovico Einaudi has gathered together a group of the world s most talented musicians to make an album inspired by the passionate music of southern Italy. Entitled 'Taranta Project', it is produced by Alberto Fabris and Ludovico Einaudi. Taranta is a passionate rhythmical dance which originated in the Salento region in the southernmost tip of Puglia, in the heel of Italy. It derives from an ancient healing ritual to drive out the poisonous effects of a Tarantula bite and involves a woman spinning dervish-like to the hypnotic beat of the tambourine and the musical accompaniment of violin, accordion and guitar playing the traditional folk music that is indigenous to the area. For the last 15 years Salento has hosted a festival of Taranta music ,'La Notte Della Taranta', which has grown into one of the biggest music festivals in Italy. Every year the organising committee invites a noted musician to direct the festival. In 2010 and 2011 that honour fell to Ludovico Einaudi, who invited his friends and fellow musicians Ballake Sissoko, Justin Adams, Juldeh Camara, Mercan Dede, Redi Hasa & Mauro Durante to participate alongside a group of Salento musicians including Antonio Castrignano, Enza Pagliara, and Alessia Tondo. They took the traditional Salentine music and added their own influences from world music, electronica and classical and under Einaudi's masterful direction created a beautifully compelling sound that was at once traditional and strikingly modern. Ludovico took this group of musicians on tour around the world in 2012 and part of 'Taranta Project' is recorded live on tour as well as in the studio. Says Ludovico: It sounds like a studio album but with the energy of a live performance. My idea was to bring this music to a more universal level connected to other traditions. Says guitarist Justin Adams: Puglia has got this unique tradition in European music of having this healing trance thing with big drums, so it s a lot less four square than a lot of European folk music. It s got something of Africa in it. Repetition is part of it because it begins to really go into your soul. That and also an almost operatic sense of dynamic, so epic one moment and the next minute absolutely intimate.
About the Artist
Ludovico Einaudi was born in Turin and trained as a classical composer and pianist at the Milan Conservatorio. He studied under Luciano Berio, one of the most important composers of the twentieth century avant-garde. After some early prestigious commissions in the classical world, Einaudi turned his back on what he regarded as an essentially conservative approach to music to embrace his own enthusiasms, which include African music, folk and the rock music of the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Radiohead. Einaudi's evocative music has sold over 1.5 million records and has quietly made him one of the most successful musicians in the world. He has released 12 studio albums: Time Out (1988), Stanze (1992), Salgari (1995), Le Onde (1996), Eden Roc (1999), I Giorni (2001), Una Mattina (2004), Diario Mali [with Ballaké Sissoko] (2005), Divenire (2006), Cloudland [recorded as the group Whitetree] (2009), Nightbook (2009) and In A Time Lapse (2013) and three live albums recorded at La Scala (2003), in Berlin (2008) and at the Royal Albert Hall (2010). He has provided music for more than 20 films including Shane Meadows' 'This Is England' and the French International hit 'Intouchables'.
