全世界初のマリオゴルフ。表記がアルファベットと算用数字、カタカナだけとなっているため、コース名も英語表記となっている。一人でストロークモードをする場合には、コースによって定められた規定スコア（2～18オーバー）を超えた時点で（途中でも）ゲームオーバー、という条件が課せられているため、それ以下のスコアでクリアすることが求められている（ただし、裏技で条件をある程度緩和することが可能）。

ちなみに、この作品においては、ルイージはルイジと表記される。また、マリオのキャディーとしてピーチが、ルイージのキャディーとしてデイジーがそれぞれ登場しており、2人の王冠をつけていない姿が見られる。
