I did that by adding special HTML code to my personal web-site.

Updated my test mastodon instance to 4.5 RC2, all from a remote cabin in the woods using Tailscale to connect to my little mini pc's at home.
I see mastodon.social is already at a 4.6 nightly - they are so ready to get 4.5 out the door! :)

Can anyone parse this for me?
True decentralisation happens on #mastodon because it’s networked with Threads, a giant monolithic “instance” whose users are unlikely to ever leave?
I mean it’s good for people who want that network connection here, but it seems very strange to trumpet this as the only “true” decentralisation.

I'm lucky to have made it this far in life avoiding #socialmedia sites- so why not make the inevitable misstep slightly less bad by having my first platform be the 'good' one? I'm intrigued by the lack of algorithmic mayhem #Mastodon provides, and I hope I can find some neat folks who may or may not be interested in what I have to say or post. Not sure what my experience here as a total SM novice will look like, but I'm here now. I guess.
What is the best option to host a #Mastodon instance with its own domain name? Max four users, most possibly only me.
For those, like me, who want their own space here and prefer self-hosting, I suggest considering snac2. I'm having a great experience with it, and it's easy to install and configure.

I'm trying to convince the last friends I have left on Facebook, X, Threads, or BlueSky to join the Fediverse. Some have tried but felt a sense of loneliness. Nowadays, many people are so used to doing what algorithms suggest that they can no longer make independent choices.
My timeline here, on the other hand, is beautiful.
I see what I want, I follow people who post what I like, and no one tells me what I should do. Freedom may come with a "cost," but whatever it is, it's worth the effort. Always.

On Mastodon, if you've clicked a "Follow" button and it turns into "Pending" or "Cancel Follow" or "Request Sent", it means the follow hasn't actually happened yet.
Usually it's because the account has follow requests switched on, so you just wait for them to approve your request.
However, sometimes it's due to other reasons, and you may have to do something special to get the follow to work. Lots of info and full instructions at:
