Early Recordings

From the ashes of the late, great The Royal We and Sexy Kids come Veronica Falls. Formed in early 2009, they were quickly recognized by those with a discerning ear for urgent, tuneful guitar pop with a dark undercurrent. Excellent singles for "Found Love in a Graveyard" and "Beachy Head" on Captured Tracks and No Pain in Pop turned heads on both sides of the Atlantic. In a musical landscape cluttered with sound-alike lo-fi pop bands, Veronica Falls' consummate songwriting skills, spooky harmonies and distinctive guitar interplay clearly set them apart and mark their upcoming debut LP as one of the most anxiously awaited in recent memory. Recorded with Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, The Breeders) and Ash Workman (Metronomy, Summer Camp), that album is now complete, and "Bad Feeling" is the first single. Sporting a rough garage feel and driven by hard-strummed guitars and thumping drums, "Bad Feeling" wouldn't sound out of place on a Nuggets comp or an early Flying Nun record. But once the male / female vocals usher in the call-and-response chorus, it's apparent that this could only be Veronica Falls. It's clearly pop, but touched by darkness and mystery-the kind that sticks around long after the song is over."

MANIC STREET PREACHERS will release a brand new track to coincide with the release of their complete singles collection album. The single 'This is the day' is available from 18th September and is a cover of the 1983 The The track taken from the synth-noir classic album ‘Soul Mining’. The band have been fans of the group and their version echoes the original whilst bringing a new dynamic production and their own distinctive sound to the song. ‘NATIONAL TREASURES’ features the band’s 37 previous single releases from the last 21 years and 10 studio albums. It’s also the first time since 1992’s ‘Suicide Is Painless (Theme from M*A*S*H) the Manics have released a cover version as a single despite recording and playing live many versions of their favourite tracks over the years.

若提到在实验音乐范畴中现今的地下邪异乐队占有重要地位之现象，则不可不深究Death In June对其概念的启示与影响力。八十年代初，承袭自朋克对音乐思潮的反动理念，使得各家光怪陆离的地下乐队纷纷伸出触角，企图颠覆僵化的音乐市场体制。 D.I.J以乍听有些错愕之名（“死于六月”，声韵雅致如诗名，却兼具倒反的残酷意象），在自己的独立唱片公司“NER(New European Recordings)” 之下以神秘莫测的姿态出没，迄今已十三年。D.I.J 吊诡的实验性音乐中，总是紊洄着颓寂荒芜的淡漠，宛如蓝色水晶内透出微渺幽光。在“The Guilty Have No Past”中低沉的人声与厚重的贝司酝酿出如黑雾浓密笼罩般的死亡味；“The Wall Of Sacrifice”中采样于工业音效的运用，渗有那至极的孤绝感；“Heaven Street”则有着不可一世的嚣张狂肆；“Nada”中的毁灭的倾向更趋强烈；“But What Ends When The Symbols Shatter”好比荒岛上矗立的透明花园废墟，一切皆被遗亡了，唯存昔日甜蜜形象浮荡其间。在精神上，D．I．J似乎颇爱耽溺于自体凝造的虚无领域(Land 0f Nihil)之中，却又同时以独裁者的面目，自傲地坚持着“不懈地毁坏(Destory To End)”。在意识形态方面，过去的D．I．J不论专辑或曲日皆台有与Nazi(纳粹)相关的影射在内，事实上，“死于六月”之名即是指1934年的6月 29日，冲锋队(SA．希特勒的法西斯组织)被德国政府的保卫军(SS)整肃一事。而D．I．J使用的骷髅头图腾即为纳粹黑衫军军服领上的徽记。冷峻肃杀的唱片封面设计也透露出其对军事极权的偏好。此外乐队主脑Douglas P．曾提到法国同性恋作家Jean Genet与日本三岛由纪夫作品中虐待爱欲背后的“虚无(Nothing)”也是与D．I．J相契合。 D.I.J在1980年初组时共有David Tibet、Tony Wakeford、Patric Legas及Douglas P．四位元老，之后Tibel在81年推出“Heaven Street”之前即离开，而后Tony在84年“Burial”后自组Sol lnvictus，Patric合作完85年的“Nada”也加入了Sixth Comm。D．I．J好比一个异质子宫，从其内孵育出三个大魔物，四音相互关系若联想至《圣经》中启示录里的Four Horse Man，颇可玩味。
1、Tibet的Current 93融合了各种神秘思想。如英国象征主义诗人、画家Willlam Blake(1757-1827)用其独特的想象力注释基督教与新英格兰的关系，Tibet曾就此写了“All The Star Are Dead Now”，并自称是感受到W．B．向他显示的预言。其中以似晦涩绝望的文笔描述出大巴比伦和耶路撒冷沉沦时的末日景象，仿佛一幅细腻而血红的歌特时代画作。Tibet也宣称对Aleister Cronley感兴趣，Cronley曾参加“黄金之晓教团”，后著述于自己所创“黑色巫术(B1ack Magic)”，他过着极端堕落的生活(性与毒品)，以后便成为启示录所言的兽。一些西藏密宗的咒文也常出现在Current 93的音乐中。
2、Sol lnvictus，提到其音乐内容结合了Pagan信仰的原型(Archetypes)，Pagan是指非基督，犹太和伊斯兰教徒，而膜拜吉罗马时代的多神与自然力量而言。在专辑Lex Talionis(以牙还牙的惩罚法)中的一首Black Easter(黑色复活节)，阴森愤怒的乐风宣告着“God Is Dead”，基督并未于复活日得到重生。可谓是异教徒对基督信徒坚信作为救赎希望的“神话”，大肆地加以冷嘲热讽一番。
3、Patric Legas加入的Sixth Comm，在四者中算是较少被注意的。Sixth Comm常与另一团体Mother Destruction合作。音乐创作理念是源自北欧斯堪维那半岛一带的神话和Rune Magic--一种在3-13世纪间，使用条顿话系(德、英等)文字表意的符号，其相信操纵该符号可产生某种神秘力量。Sixth Comm曾邀Freja Aswyn参与此专辑录制。她是英国知名研究Runes的专家，也曾参加过Current 93，自己出有几卷Tape，是关于Runes的人声作品。不同于D．I．J对现世冷冽低调的旁观，Current 93灵犀预言的吟咏，及Sol Invictus游走于古老的宗教情怀，Sixth Comm仍保有最原始的形态，籍由巫者(Music)呼唤出心中深层的神秘交感。粗旷的鼓击、循着魅惑的节奏，迷离恍惚地层层向上，最终达至与神抵归属合一的祭仪高潮。 延伸至近来D．I．J的风格逐渐感性化，大多数是David Tibet与Douglas合作的极具旋律性的曲子。若怀念早期D．I．J乐风者，同样来自英国的Joy 0f Life则颇有D．I．J的灰色血脉，CD“Enjoy／Hear The Children”是合先前的两张LP而成，虽有低音域的阴沉人声与慎密富于张力的贝司加上迫人的鼓点，但仍待历练。前Sol Invictus的主唱Ian Reed，同时亦是杂志“Chaos International(国际性混乱)”的编辑，现已自组团Fire Nad Ice，行第一张专辑“Gilded By The Sun”。与D．I．j. C93合作过的Rose Mcdowall以Sorrow之名出有一张S0l0 Album，与她以往的童稚可爱嗓音差别极大，她并与Boyd Rice另组Spell，回归到他们本来受其影响的音乐根源，唱些Lee Hazlwood的曲子。参与D．I．J“The wall of Sacrifice”制作的Nikolas Schreck自己是另一异教团Radio Warewolf的核心人物，该团的风格与Non后期以管风琴营造的冰冷刚硬感相似。
The Wall of Sacrifice is an experimental, dark folk album by Death In June. The original vinyl pressing, released in 1989, was limited to 666 copies. A CD version was released in 1990.
