The boys of Maroon 5 have certainly come a long way since their days in the indie outfit Kara's Flowers. After the band's demise in 1999, frontman Adam Levine surrounded himself with New York City's urban hip-hop culture and found a new musical calling. Maroon 5 were born and their debut album, Songs About Jane, illustrates an impressive rebirth. V (pronounced "Five") is the upcoming fifth studio album by American pop rock band Maroon 5, set to be released on August 29, 2014, by Interscope Records, as the follow-up from their fourth studio album Overexposed (2012). The album will be the first to be released through Interscope after the band's previous label, A&M Octone Records, transferred them along with most of its artists to Interscope. The album also sees the return of keyboardist Jesse Carmichael after his absence from the band's previous album. On July 29, 2014, the album was made available for pre-order on iTunes and through Maroon 5's official website.

A mix of polished pop/rock and neo-soul sex appeal made Maroon 5 one of the most popular bands of the 2000s, with songs like "This Love," "She Will Be Loved," and "Makes Me Wonder" all topping the charts worldwide. Previously, bandmates Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums) had spent the latter half of the '90s playing in Kara's Flowers, even releasing a debut album for Reprise Records while still attending high school.
