这是2003年，MONKEY MAJIK在日本TOWER RECORDS仙台店限定发行的首张专辑《SPADE》。专辑发售后，蝉连该店销售冠军13周，并拿下该店年度专辑销售榜冠军。之后发行的两张迷你专辑及一张完整专辑更连续打入oricon非主流排行榜top20，同时也吸引主流媒体如富士电视台「めざましテレビ」多次采访。其间CX「めざましテレビ」三次采用他们的歌曲之后使他们在全国的唱片店中产生很大反响。

原本只是来日本教教英文混口饭吃的Maynard，在一次机缘下认识日本团员，没想到一拍即合，召来远在家乡的弟弟Blaise，七手八脚低就搞起了乐团。2000年，因为前英籍团员的建议与英国节目「西游记」的啟发，正式以「MONKEY MAJIK 猴子把戏」的名义开起一路颠簸的band sound之路。
直到2003年，Monkey Majik 才在仙台地区闯出了一番名号：在日本东北独立厂牌Under Horse下推出第一张成名专辑【SPADE】，与当地唱片行结合，以限定方式推出，没想到反应大爆冷门，成为该店连续13週销售冠军，「猴子把戏」也因此成为日本东北仙台地区首屈一指的非主流乐团。之后2005年，连续推出两张迷你专辑与第二张专辑【eastview】，也因此得到avex的青睞，转入主流试图搞出更大的「把戏」！
「猴子把戏」从2000年走过6个年头，风格多变，从英式摇滚的《SPADE》、Youth Rock的《Lily》、美式摩登摇滚的《eastview》，游走到现在轻鬆自在的歌谣式轻摇滚，英文与日文歌词间的巧妙转换，加上熟稔地运用现代与复古的流行音乐元素，创造出东洋歌曲中不可思议的奇妙体验。正如使他们从「猴子变凤凰」的第二首单曲《Around The World》的歌名一样，他们的音乐风格已经可以让你的听觉环游世界一圈啦！
