In China, the right to do business was much more important than profits or property of individual merchants. 第一章进出口信贷与新旧银行业的关系，以及上海1870年代的银行倒闭潮。第二章是子口税套利，第三章怡和洋行的丝厂，与Shannon Brown的jeh文章讲的没区别。旧行会，新商会，新旧银行，bankruptcy，买办，新式企业，是个好故事，只可惜数据太少。
