大学时代学习柔道的诸星要一（绫野刚 饰），凭借特长而被借调到北海道担任刑警。没有比赛的日子里，他终日负责无聊杂务，满腔的正义之情无处释放。在警署金牌刑警村井（皮埃尔泷 饰）的点拨下，一直以来非黑即白的诸星茅塞顿开，他大肆发展线人，狂刷积分，于是成为北海道道警中的得力干将。他与黑道大哥黑岩胜典（中村狮童 饰）、毒品贩子山边太郎（Young Dais 饰）等灰色地带人物称兄道弟，依靠他们收缴枪支以完成警署指标，甚至动用公家资金贩卖毒品、走私枪支。诸星满心以为自己在做正义之事，却不曾想早已离他的梦想越来越远……
本片根据前北海道警察稻叶圭昭的真实事件改编。

小龙（张文龙 饰）出生于贫困的家庭之中，母亲无力抚养小龙，于是将他送入了戏剧学校拜于占元（洪金宝 饰）为师，学习技艺。在学校中，小龙结识了三毛（钟锦任 饰）、阿彪（黄剑伟 饰）等同门师兄，彼此之间结下了极为深厚的友谊。
校规森严，三毛和小龙等人吃尽了苦头，却依旧热爱着这门事业，于占元虽然表面上黑口黑面，却发自内心的呵护和疼爱着他的弟子们。一次偶然中，三毛结识了名为程水仙的粤剧花旦，两人情投意合，走到了一起。随着时间的推移，京剧的热度逐渐退却，观众越来越少，不少同行转战电影行业，混得风生水起。入不敷出的于占元最终决定关闭学校，小龙等人因此失去了唯一庇护他们的家园，师徒依依不舍的别离，迈向各自的人生。

幾次熱淚盈眶，一股難以名狀的感情積聚胸口，久久不能平復。時至今日依舊沒人能阻擋太陽下山的腳步，哪管你曾經如何力拔山兮氣蓋世，到頭來還不是洩然嘆句「虞兮虞兮柰若何」而已。這片子遠比《霸王別姬》強出太多，單就「于占元」三個字，就該是中國戲曲和世界電影要用一生去銘記的！

完全搞不懂這片子的評分為什麼這麼高，冷峻狂暴不假，可不管從劇本攝影美術乃至配樂上我都找不到一點兒武俠電影該有的詩意，反倒是那股所謂的「江湖氣」異常濃烈。B站上有條彈幕說得好「這打戲拍得跟他媽瘋狗撕逼似的！」可您要非說這叫「寫實」我也只能送您一句：您也是沒吃過正經百面。

青霞應該是最早的「龍女郎」了吧？風華絕代，不可方物，不像鰻魚肉肉的還一臉受氣相兒。這個時期成龍的個人風格還不是很明顯，身上依稀還有不少李小龍的影子，但很多後來成為他標誌性的動作已經初見端倪。倒是彼時的三菱跟如今的佳能一樣，真是拼了命地想在大哥的電影裏混個臉兒熟。
