Canadian rapper Snow scored one of 1993's biggest hits with his single "The Informer." His patois-laced song soared up the pop and R&B charts, even though only hardcore reggae listeners could understand it without a lyric translation sheet. Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is the debut studio album by American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, released on November 9, 1993 by Loud Records. Recording sessions took place during 1992 and 1993 at Firehouse Studio in New York City, and the album was produced by the group's de facto leader RZA. Its title originates from the martial arts film The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978).

A great sophomore effort, though not as important as its predecessor or successor. The title track is a classic example of the group's imaginative fusion of roaring guitars and dance beats - next time someone tries to tell you Korn was original, or any good, point them to this record and tell them the rap-metal thing had been around long before Korn, and was actually good once. And there are more great songs than just that: the funny "You Talk Too Much," which also offers some sweet synths; "Jam-Master Jammin'" is a great showpiece for Jay; a fine reggae experiment ("Roots, Rap, Reggae," one of the first songs to make the connection between the two genres - Yellowman adds a great vocal), and a bunch of songs with great riffs and turntable work: "Can You Rock it Like This?," "Rock the House," "You're Blind." The group's tendency to base an entire song on an obnoxious novelty comes along to hurt the otherwise respectable "It's Not Funny" - in this case, it's a deep, vocodored voice reciting the title track - but there's great rapping throughout ("Darryl and Joe"). Really, there isn't a single bad song on this album.

Tougher Than Leather is a 1988 studio album for American rap group Run-D.M.C. and a follow-up to their hit Raising Hell. While the new record did not maintain the same popularity as its predecessor, it obtained platinum status and spawned the favorites "Run's House" and "Mary, Mary" (a cover of The Monkees' song). Tougher Than Leather was the group's fourth effort and blended in elements of not only rap but also rock n' roll and funk, making it their most varied effort to date alongside King of Rock. "Papa Crazy" is based on Papa Was a Rollin' Stone by the The Temptations.
A film of the same name, starring the members of Run-D.M.C. and their producer, Rick Rubin, was also released in 1988.
