With her breakthrough 2002 debut, Let Go, Avril Lavigne tried to market herself as the bona fide alternative to tarty teen queens, Britney and Christina. Her guitar-pop hits were irresistibly bratty but the whole "Complicated" teen pose was a little hard to swallow, especially since two songwriters called the Matrix--who had at least twenty years on the Canadian singer--fed her most of the material. Having had the chance to live a little, Lavigne returns to make good on her angsty image with Under My Skin, an album rippling with delightfully dour melodies and heartfelt lyrics about loneliness ("How Does It Feel") and fractured relationships ("Don't Tell Me"). Cara Dillon, one of the most celebrated singers in Irish Folk music, announces the release of her brand new album Wanderer. For this, her seventh album, the award-winning singer once again collaborates with longtime musical partner, producer and husband Sam Lakeman to offer a collection of songs featuring intimate performances that capture some of her most moving vocal performances to date. Building upon a career based on folk songs rooted in time and place, Wanderer sees Cara delve deeper into the tradition, not finding reasons to circumvent it. The underlying theme being the movement of people, of emigration and the pursuit of love. Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd "rather be anything but ordinary" on her debut. The catchy choruses of Go are substantial, though, thanks to Lavigne's riff-driven melodies and powerful vocals, which at times adopt the unorthodox intonation quirks of fellow Canadian Alanis Morrissette. The nuanced, dynamic "Losing Grip," "My World" (which perfectly captures the ennui of suburbia), and the buoyant power-pop blast "Sk8er Boi" are the collection's highlights. But Lavigne's honest yet awkward words weigh down the likes of "Mobile," "I'm with You," and "Naked." 1989 is the upcoming fifth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It is set to be released on October 27, 2014 by Big Machine Records. The album is preceded by the digital release of the single "Shake It Off", for which Mark Romanek directed a music video.

Australian artist Lenka announced that she will be releasing a new album, “The Bright Side”, on June 16th, 2015.
Lenka began her artistic career as a Sydney-based television personality and went on to become an accomplished actress in her adolescence through her early adult years. Her musical career began when she became the lead singer of the seminal Australian rock band, Decoder Ring. But, after two albums, Lenka left the band, and moved to America. First, she settled in Los Angeles, and later moved to Brooklyn, New York, as she established herself as a successful recording artist and songwriter.
“The Show”, a song on Lenka’s first self-titled solo album, was used in the film “Moneyball”, along with many other commercials, served to put Lenka on the map in North America, Europe, Asia, and various other places around the world. Additionally, her song “Everything at Once” was used during the Microsoft Windows 8 global commercial, and that only further cemented Lenka’s place in modern music. According to a press release, American actor & singer Billy Crystal even sang one of her songs on the 2012 edition of the Academy Awards.
To date, Lenka has released three albums: the aforementioned self-titled “Lenka”, her upbeat and infectious sophomore album “Two”, and “Shadows”, an album of lullabies.
Now, she has announced plans for her fourth album, “The Bright Side”. According to her PR representatives, the new album will be released on the 16th of June 2015.
Lenka worked on “The Bright Side”, while also composing music for television and films. And, she’s been collaborating with her husband, James Gulliver Hancock, to create visual art and music videos that make her live shows an unusual, but enchanted experience. Their collaborations have also garnered Lenka over a million views on Youtube, according to a press release.
This week, Lenka premiered the first single from her new album on The FADER. It’s called, “Blue Skies”. And, Duncan Cooper of The FADER describes the song as starting “from a place that’s a bit more down,” when compared to Lenka’s previous releases.
While the track may be less peppy than Lenka’s older material, in an email interview conducted with The FADER, Lenka explained how the song came to fruition, and she also discussed her own interpretation of “Blue Skies”.
“‘Blue Skies’ was written in my car on a stormy day, singing to my little boy in the back seat,” she said in the email. “It’s about hope for the future and a feeling of certainty that everything will go our way. It’s about seeing though the dark and stormy times with the ones you love.”

In Sydney, Australia, Lenka was a teen actress who trained with Cate Blanchett, thereafter landing leading roles on stage, television and indie films. A self-described 'punk-ass art school student' and vocalist/keyboardist for acclaimed indie Electronic/ambient outfit Decoder Ring. She has flung herself into two new worlds simultaneously: she's moved to California and become a solo artist. Whether channelling our long-repressed terrors ('Trouble') or long-lost innocence ('We Will Not Grow Old'), her music evokes primal emotions, unblemished by pretense or cynicism and unashamed of cracking a smile occasionally.
