Night and the Doctor was the umbrella title for a series of five mini-episodes of Doctor Who released as part of the complete series 6 home video release. Included in the anthological series were Bad Night, Good Night, First Night, Last Night and Up All Night. According to Doctor Who Confidential: The Night's Tale, the first four episodes were directed by Richard Senior.
All but Up All Night are written by Steven Moffat; Up All Night is written by Tom MacRae but is erroneously credited to Moffat on screen; a correction is printed in the booklet that accompanied the Series 6 box set.

Death Is the Only Answer was a mini-episode of Doctor Who broadcast as part of Doctor Who Confidential.
In the control room of his TARDIS, the Eleventh Doctor is celebrating his acquisition of a new fez formerly owned by his old friend Albert Einstein. The Doctor trips near the console, knocking the fez out of his hands and onto a lever on the console. The Doctor accidentally pushes another lever, causing the fez to vanish. A time portal appears and Einstein himself stumbles through it with the Fez, bewildered.
Einstein had been working on his own attempt at a time machine, but when he tried to turn it off, he arrived in the TARDIS. Einstein also thought that he'd discovered the vital part of finishing his time machine--a green liquid, which he believed to be bionic fusion liquid. After scanning the liquid, the Doctor informs Einstein that he is wrong. When Einstein walks away from the console to run some tests on the liquid, the flask suddenly bubbles over and the liquid splashes onto his face, turning him into an Ood who repeatedly repeats the phrase, "death is the only answer."
The Doctor has the TARDIS generate an energy field which turns Albert back into his normal self. The Doctor recommends that Albert keeps his fried hair, as it looks "more sciencey". The Doctor drops Albert off on 18 September 1945, and leaves for another adventure; unnoticed by the Doctor, a bit of Einstein's liquid remains on the console room floor, moving on its own.

"Space"
Amy is trying to get the Doctor's attention while he fixes the TARDIS. She discovers that Rory is helping the Doctor by installing thermal couplings underneath the glass floor of the TARDIS. Rory and Amy then start a small argument, when the TARDIS suddenly shakes and the lights go out. The Doctor asks Rory if he dropped a thermal coupling, which Rory admits to and apologizes for doing. Amy then apologizes as well, and, at the Doctor's confusion, explains that Rory was looking up her skirt through the glass floor when he dropped the thermal coupling. The Doctor then notes that they have landed through "emergency materialization" which should have landed the TARDIS in the safest space available. The lights come on, revealing another TARDIS inside the control room - the TARDIS has materialized inside itself. The Doctor experimentally walks through the door of the TARDIS inside the control room and instantly walks back into the control room through the door of the outer TARDIS. The Doctor tells Rory and Amy that they are trapped in a "space loop" and that nothing can enter or exit the TARDIS ever again. Despite the Doctor's words, another Amy enters through the TARDIS outer door saying "Okay kids, this is where it gets complicated."
"Time"
Continuing from the ending of "Space", the other Amy reveals that she is from a few moments in the future, and is able to come into the current outer TARDIS because "the exterior shell of the TARDIS has drifted forwards in time". The other Amy knows what to say and do because, from her perspective, she is repeating what she heard herself say earlier on. The Doctor sends the current Amy into the TARDIS within the current TARDIS, in order to "maintain the timeline". The two Amys take a moment to flirt with each other before the current one departs, much to the Doctor's exasperation. However, not long after the current Amy has left, Rory and Amy enter through the door of outer TARDIS, explaining that the Doctor, from their perspective, just sent them into the inner TARDIS. The current Doctor promptly sends the current Rory and now-current Amy through the inner TARDIS. The Doctor then explains that he will set up a "controlled temporal implosion" in order to "reset the TARDIS", but in order to do so he must know which lever to use on the control panel. Moments after he speaks, another Doctor enters though the outer TARDIS door and tells him to use "the wibbly lever", which he quickly operates, then steps into the inner TARDIS to tell his past self which lever to use. The inner TARDIS dematerialises while the outer TARDIS (being the same TARDIS) does the same, and the Doctor assures Amy and Rory that they are now back in "normal flight", and then advises Amy to "put some trousers on."

A message from the Doctor interrupts Karen Gillan, who is trying to introduce 'Amy's Theme'. The Doctor asks the audience to yell "Hello, Doctor" so he can lock onto their signal. He gets a clear picture, but upside down. The Doctor tells everyone to hang on, makes fun of people wearing wigs and urges ladies to hold their skirts down. He realises his screen is upside down and fixes it and then asks for one more "Hello, Doctor" because he likes being given a big greeting.
The Doctor explains that he has ended up in the Royal Albert Hall in 2207 when the show is almost over and the TARDIS then transported him to an unknown location. The TARDIS has locked on to an overloading fold-back quazar engine, which has gone into overdrive, and is only deadly when it starts beeping. It does start beeping slowly, which the Doctor dismisses as a high-pitch beeping is the warning. It tbeeps some more.. The Doctor says that as long as he has his sonic screwdriver, he doesn't have to worry and takes out a toothbrush. He says he has to find a safer area to defuse the bomb andsays farewell.He emerges into the Albert Hall, briefly abandoning the engine when it stops beeping. However, it does not detonate and the Doctor picks it up and heads into the crowd. He looks for someone to help, but refuses to have an adult help as they might hit him. The Doctor then takes a boy named Ellis from his seat. He picks a wire from the engine and asks Ellis if he can see it, which says he can. The Doctor is surprised by how sharp he is and explains that the wire he's holding is "psychic wire", which is so thin that its practically imaginary; once again he complitments the boy, saying he's "one step ahead of the game". He has Ellis at first hold the wire in his hand, but then has him hold it in his mouth to save Ellis's hand. The Doctor has Ellis keep his head still and then becomes shocked once again by how serious Ellis is taking this when he doesn't giggle at the mention of doing so for comical effect, making the audiance cheer for him. The Doctor then goes on about how ridiculous his plan seems as he needs to use Ellis as a biological transducer in order to disperse the energy of the engine through the wi-fi in the hall to deactivate the engine. Before he can finishing gloating, the Doctor is forced to perform his task by the wooshing engine. The Doctor then infroms the audiance that he has successfully saved the Royal Albert Hall. He then thanks Ellis and returns him to his seat and asks for his name. The Doctor then has the crowd cheer for Ellis before continuing about if there were gong to be any side-effects. At first, the Doctor tells everyone that there are no side-effects, but goes on to say "Unless you have your mobile phone on, in which case, you;re going to die"; ITV had also been 'blown off the air'. He leaves after reading a paphlet and insulting Matt Smith for having a 'dull name', wishing the audience a good night.
