Full length follow up to SBR-044 eponymous EP from Jan.2011. For fans of Moon Duo, Psychic Ills, Silver Apples. Föllakzoid began in Santiago, Chile from what they describe as the result of, “a product of a trance experience between friends, sort of a soul abduction in which they’ve been living since 2008.” The band is made up of multi-faceted artists: Juan Pablo (bass, vocals) is a producer of the Sangre Fresca Music Festival in Santiago, Diego (drums) is a photograher, Alfredo (synth) is an architect, and Domingo (guitar) is also a filmmaker who just premiered his first feature length movie “Partir to Live”. They believe that there is some sort of gravitational force that makes South America able to dialogue directly with other places, times, and dimensions. The band have all known each other from childhood in Santiago. They take their times recording albums, generally allowing two years in between perfecting their songs with their goal being to make something organic, that breaths on it’s own, which integrates into part of a separate, higher and bigger living organism. This album shows the band growing an enormous amount as songwriters, focusing on more developed songs and structures. Throughout these five songs, Föllakzoid craft one of the finest kraut-rock record in years. Let them take you on a serpentine journey through their mystical Chilean land. Föllakzoid will be making their US touring debut this spring.

As with those simple ingredients at the heart of the Ramones’ pop-punk buzz, the basics of the Neu! formula are easy to imitate but very difficult to equal: the motorik beat that evokes speeding through the night on the autobahn; the echo-drenched guitar lines, at once both wispy and massive, lulling and chaotic; the ambient buzz that splits the difference between sinister/mechanical and ethereal/organic. Plenty, including Neu! co-founder Michael Rother on his Hallogallo 2010 tour, have duplicated those sounds but somehow fallen short of the brilliance of the three albums Neu! released in their early ’70s krautrock heyday. But on its third album, Neverendless, the Chicago quartet Cave gets everything right and then some, adding unexpected twists and turns during a metronomic rush into the darkness that befits the groundbreaking spirit of the band’s more obvious influence.
The biggest key to Cave’s success is that the Missouri-to-Chicago transplants don’t skimp on the melodies: The riffs at the heart of each of the hypnotizing jams on Neverendless worm their way into your subconscious, and they’re as effective at propelling you forward as drummer Rex McMurry’s Naval Clock-reliable snare and hi-hat. But the fact that the musicians aren’t obsessed with slavish imitation also helps in making them the best Neu! disciples since Stereolab; there are plenty of other ingredients bubbling in their stew, from post-rock digital chatter to ’60s psychedelic organ riffs, from space-rock synthesizer squeals to eruptions of Sonic Youth noise guitar. And all of it make you wish Neverendless would never end.

Philadelphia's Bardo Pond return in June 2006 with Ticket Crystals -- their sixth studio album and second for ATP Recordings. Completing a trilogy of work -- first embarked on with 2001's Dilate and centred with 2003's On the Ellipse -- Ticket Crystals resumes the quintet's signature doom tempo, multi-layered drones; while introducing a lighter pastoral, even Tudor-like feel, which rallies throughout against the band's youthful riff petulance. Guitarist and founder member, Michael Gibbons, elaborates: 'On The Ellipse was really influenced by the post 9/11 vibe, this one is the coming out of that... On this album we really investigated the dynamics between acoustic sound and heavy electrics.' Recorded over two years at the band's home studio, a handful of the tracks first came to light on Bardo Pond's 2003 live UK dates alongside kindred spirits and former label mates, Mogwai. 'Yeah, most of the time we go out on the road before we record to get comfortable with the tracks,' remarks Gibbons. Fans of the space rock pioneers may already be familiar with much of the new material owing to the band's well-publicised endorsement of bootleg recordings. Tracking down the elusive balance between extensive improvisation and acutely structured arrangements, Bardo Pond's latest long-player, Ticket Crystals, includes the spellbinding 'Moonshine' (a ten-minute plus ethereal expedition that immediately recalls the acoustic intricacy of Led Zeppelin III coupled with the contemporary quirkiness of Coco Rosie) and live favourite and album opener, 'Destroying Angel,' which only just manages to contain the sheer force of the brothers Gibbons amplification and vocalist and flautist Isobel Sollenberger's haunting and occasionally terrifying tones. Also featured on the album is the band's unique reworking of The Beatles' White Album classic, 'Cry Baby Cry,' which was originally recorded for and broadcast by the BBC as part of their commemorations of the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death.
