2010年7月7日为马勒诞生150週年纪念，DG特地发行此限量套装来纪念这位大师。
尽管是挂DG名号，但这套马勒全集拥有了环球体系的外援，除了DG外，Decca、 Philips都提供历年的马勒名盘。
乐迷最感兴趣的应该是，DG这套全集里，10首交响曲和《大地之歌》各由哪些名演获选，答案也揭晓了。第一号是库贝力克版（DG，1967）、第二号是梅塔版（Decca，1975）、第三号是海汀克版（Philips，1966）、第四号是布列兹（DG，1998）、第五号是伯恩斯坦（DG，1987）、第六号是阿巴多（DG，2004）、第七号是辛纳波里（DG，1992）、第八号是索尔蒂（Decca，1971）、第九号是卡拉扬（DG，1982）、第十号是夏伊（Decca，1986）、《大地之歌》是朱里尼（DG，1984）。
其中，朱里尼的《大地之歌》绝版多年，这套全集像及时雨一样。此外，克雷莫在DG的4D系列中录制的马勒钢琴四重奏，也已经绝版多年，这次的再版，令人期待。

这个录音卡拉扬在是1987年8月萨尔茨堡音乐节上音乐会的现场录音。其中《齐格弗里德牧歌》的演绎和卡拉扬与柏林爱乐的录音有所不同，在抒情的同时，加入了一种紧张和专注的感觉，增加了整首乐曲的戏剧性，和典雅雄伟的《唐豪塞》序曲以及《特里斯坦与伊索尔德》前奏曲可谓相得益彰。另外，《特里斯坦与伊索尔德》的《爱之死》由杰西·诺曼独唱，热情洋溢、绚丽灿烂。
