This is the first full-length release for Berlin-based DJ/producer, Shed.The work at hand presents yet another stunning Ostgut Ton acquisition, revealing Shed's irresistible, intense techno sound. Shedding The Past is the culmination of years of continuous Soloaction research, Shed's very own imprint. The recordings fully unfold the total variety in his outstanding crafts of sound. Lineage can be drawn to the Saunderson Detroit sound, Aphex Twin rave and Manix hardcore, sounding like an archive document -- an archaeological history of electronic dance music. Shedding The Past captures the intensity and the purity of club and rave in the early days, without excess nostalgia. Rather, it creates new moments that leave the past behind. Full of energy and vigor, this is true techno music: concentrated and dense, but with a sheer easiness born from eastern Germany. This adeptness has captured the ears of Berghain and Hard Wax ears. As others of his social provenience, Shed took on the opportunities of the early '90s techno culture, which unfolded after the Wall went down, and developed an approach of "just do it." With this easiness in mind, Shedding The Past is just true techno music. The 2LP version includes an exclusive track, as well as two alternate versions specially crafted for vinyl.

Concurrent with his second studio album,Youth, Matisyahu released an intriguing collection of dub versions of his works, along with a few entirely new pieces. The album opens with the title track, and enough reverb and echo to make
King Tubby
proud. Because of the nature of dub itself, the focus leaves Matisyahu's vocals somewhat in favor of the instrumental portions and the twists given to their play. Highlights include the new pieces "Spark Seekers" and "Daughters Dub," with their thumping basslines and a renewed use of vocals, and "One Woman," which evokes
Bob Marley
to some degree in its tenderness for its subject. Regardless of whether the track is a new or old one, however, the dub is excellent. Dub is a little harder to sell a crowd than dancehall, so the album may prove to be a bit more hidden. Nonetheless, it's an excellent piece of work and might just be enough to push dub into mainstream consciousness just a bit.

Dub Resistance, Christophe Levin and Alex Monnet, are two songwriters and producers from Marseilles. Together with singer Jah B they impressively show us that France also does not want break away from the influence of the Jamaican dub scene.
Dub Resistance, supported by singer Jah B and various female vocalists, use dub as a starting point for their ventures into a wide range of styles from house, lounge and dope beatz to melancholic dub reggae. Jah B., an original “toaster” and native Jamaican, ensures that the vocals are authentic.
Without a doubt the highlights on the 11-track album include the house-oriented “Electrified & Numb” alongside the relaxed “Take A Rock” and “Rubba Dub” with its raw vocal lines.
The protagonists have indeed managed to combine traditional dub sounds with all kinds of wonderful ingredients from electronic music.

The classic Maurizio / M-Series CD, originally released in 1997 and out of print for quite a while, is finally available again, remastered and reissued in a digipak.
