The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, also known as DLO3, is an American soul-jazz group founded in 2015. The band has released two albums. Their debut album, titled Close But No Cigar, charted at number one on the U.S. Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.

Ethiopian Knights is an album by American trumpeter Donald Byrd featuring performances by Byrd with Thurman Green, Harold Land, Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Sample and others, recorded for the Blue Note label in 1971.
The AllMusic review by Steve Huey awarded the album four stars and stated "Even if it isn't quite as consistent as Kofi and Electric Byrd, Ethiopian Knights is another intriguing transitional effort that deepens the portrait of Byrd the acid jazz legend"

by Andrew HamiltonAfter years of infusing his wah-wah guitar licks on countless sessions, Melvin "Wah Wah Watson" Ragin cut a deal with Columbia Records for this unsuccessful solo album that did so poorly Watson didn't have another solo release for 24 years. Columbia pushed this as fusion-jazz; well, some of it is, but it's really just good "head music." "Cry Baby" sounds like a track left off Sly & the Family Stone's There's a Riot Going On album; not a sad tune as its title suggests, but a jaunty stepper more related to funk than jazz. "Bubbles" is soft and understated with a clandestine groove, with Watson easing up on the wah-wah's. You'd think Norman Whitfield was in the studio on "Goo Goo Wah Wah" going by the countless gadgets and studio tricks employed on this likeable sprinter that's pushed by threatening tomtom drums: great chase music. Some of L.A.'s finest studio musicians are with Watson on this one.

前記事のSOUNDS OF LIBERATIONもファンキーでしたが、
こちらもファンキー。その名も「FUNKY STUFF」。
稲垣次郎と言えば、日本を代表するサックス奏者で、
特に1970年の「ヘッド･ロック」はジャズの粋を遙かに超えた
ジャズ･ロックの名盤として燦然と輝く評価を今は手にしている。
2009年にも1970年ごろの「ヘッド･ロック」と同傾向の
「ウッドストック・ジェネレーション」がP-VINEよりCD化されマニアの話題を誘った。
そしてこの「FUNKY STUFF」は1974年の作品で、ジャズ・ロックから
徐々にソウル･ジャズやファンクに移行していった時期の代表作。
それが2010年に日本コロムビアの「昭和アーカイブ・ジャズ･シリーズ」より
CD化された！しかも2,000円！安い！これは喜ばしい初CD化！
一曲目から再生してみると・・・
ん！ん！ん！
これは石川晶の超名盤「GET UP!」にも収録されていた曲ではないか！
その盤にも参加していたコルゲンこと鈴木宏昌が同じく
この「FUNKY STUFF」でも編曲、キーボーディストとして参加している。
石川晶の高速なタム回しとは違い、石松元（彼も同じ時期に沢山のレコーディングに参加しているスタジオ･ミュージシャン）のドラムというだけで同じ曲でも随分と印象が違う。ちょっとバタバタした感じと若干テンポが違った感じもなかなか良い。
次の「ファンキー･モーション」は、ベース・ソロの曲。
これがメチャクチャ重低音の聞いたファンキーで歌心があるソロで
最近ベースを弾く自分としても非常に魅力的。
ベースラインと似たようなスキャットもかぶさってます。
そして再び鈴木宏昌のオリジナルによる3曲目「ブリーズ」。
これはミッド･テンポのグルーヴで非常に洗練された印象。
このアルバムの良い所は、何かとカバーの多い同傾向のアルバムが多い中、
これは圧倒的にオリジナルが多くしかもレベルが高い曲ということ！
その中でもアルバム・タイトルに持ってきてもいる5曲目はクール＆ザ･ギャングの曲。
この曲ですが、三保敬太郎がかかわった和モノ名曲の「ザ・ゴリラ7のテーマ」に
非常に良く似てます。というかきっとパクッたんだと思いますが。
これもベースラインぶりぶりで、歌の部分を全部ホーンで担ってます。
稲垣次郎のサックスはといえば、全編にいえますが、そこまでバリバリ吹いてません。
むしろグルーヴ優先で、「グルーヴが出るなら俺は吹かんでもいい！」といわんばかり。
でも要所要所でまとめてくる辺りはさすが。
6曲目は鈴木宏昌が稲垣次郎に捧げた「ワン・フォー・ジロー」。
ここではさっきの曲とは異なり燻し銀で歌い上げています。格好ええ！
全体的にボトム･ラインが非常に重低音でグルーヴィー！
そこに鈴木宏昌の良い感じのエレキ･ピアノが絡んできてメチャクチャ格好良いです。
こればっかり聞いていて最近どっぷりFUNKに目覚めてしまいそう。
全く今まで興味なかったFUNKとかSOULが急に面白いです。
どこでどうつながるか分かりませんが、それだからこそ音楽は飽きません！

In February 2018, Roy Ayers performed four sold out shows in Los Angeles as part of the Jazz Is Dead Black History Month series. It wasn’t until 2020 that fans of Ayers discovered that in addition to those shows, the legendary vibraphone player had also recorded an entire album of new material with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
Over the course of its eight original compositions, written collaboratively by Younge, Shaheed Muhammad & Ayers and recorded at Younge’s Linear Labs in Los Angeles, the resulting album sounds both like an unearthed an unreleased album from Ayers’ classic period in the 1970s (which produced the oft-sampled “Red, Black & Green,” “We Live In Brooklyn, Baby,” “Everybody Loves The Sunshine,” and “Running Away), as well as something startling, new and unexpected.
Joining Ayers, Younge & Shaheed Muhammad on this musical journey are drummer Greg Paul, vocalists Loren Oden, Joy Gilliam, Saudia Yasmein, Elgin Clark & Anitra Castleberry, as well as Phil Ranelin & Wendell Harrison of the legendary Spiritual Jazz label Tribe Records.
The 8 tracks on this album testify to the love not only of a legendary musician’s legacy, but to the vitality & necessity of this music and these sounds in the present era, a thread that will likely run throughout all of the upcoming releases from Jazz Is Dead Records.

Originally released in 1976, VARIATIONS found Roy Ayers settling comfortably into the soul-funk grooves that would help establish him as a pioneer of the acid jazz and jazz-rap sound (Ayers became a legend in the `90s as a source for sampling jazzy, funky grooves). On VARIATIONS, Ayers turns further away from traditional bop-oriented jazz and more toward vocal R&B.
Crate diggers will appreciate the churning funk of "Higher" or "One Sweet Love to Remember" and the smooth R&B ballads like "Baby You Give Me a Feeling," but the highlights of this set are unquestionably the hit "Searchin'" and the funky, good-time title track. The technical playing, especially Ayers's cool-toned vibes, keeps the instrumental jazz flame alive, but VARIATIONS is essentially a funky R&B record, and a fine one at that.
