This, the first Buddha-Bar CD/DVD, follows the seventh successful Buddha-Bar CD (released in February 2005). The nature theme is one of the major concerns of the 21st century, and it corresponds to the Buddha-Bar spirit. Allain Bougrain Dubourg, known for his TV documentaries about nature across the world, and Arno Elias, whose talent as a composer is also widely recognized, produced twelve pieces of music that lead us on a visual journey through the wild world of nature. A marvelous spectacle of animal and plant life, from dolphins dancing in the waves to tropical forests, to a leopard attack, the DVD is bursting with emotion. The Buddha-Bar team hopes that the beauty of the wildlife depicted will remind us also of its fragility, and therefore, the respect we owe it.

The Buddha Bar series has become a band name by now, and Buddha Bar, Vol. 4 does nothing to break the new tradition. Compiled by David Visan, the two-CD set is divided into "Dinner" and "Drink." The former is definitely music for the consumption of comestibles, pleasant and polite with exotic touches of world music, like Nitin Sawhney's "Moonrise" or Gotan Project's revolution of the tango with "Una Musical Brutal," but they're the mildest examples of the artists' output, never pushing themselves forward, but providing a backdrop for food and civilized conversation. "Drink" fares a little better, but has traces of anonymity -- Time Passing with "Party People," for example, or Chris Spheeris and "Dancing With The Muse" could both come from a modern TV ad -- although its less afraid of imposing itself, with the delightful Panjabi Mc, whose track is gleefully annoying, and Loving Paris, who offer "Loco," which is exactly that. Egyptian heartthrob Amr Diab comes across as glossier than usual in this setting, while salsa diva Celia Cruz contributing a version of "I Will Survive" is one of the musical standouts -- the song translates surprisingly well to her genre. Still, it's a disc without rhyme or reason, and bizarrely sequenced, with little sense of movement, just a random bunch of tracks slung together without a great deal of thought. Overall, a moderate success only.

On number six in this Buddha-Bar series, musical alchemist Ravin returns with a sublime selection of tracks, half of which are previously unreleased. Artists on this double disc include B-Tribe, 1 Giant Leap, Erik Satie, Cellar 55, Slow Train, Loopless, Sarah Vaughan, Bliss, Afterlife, and many more.

Versioni Particolari 2 is a collection of remixes and unreleased versions taken from 4 vinyl singles that followed the album release of Experiments in Ambient Soul (2005). Ocean is a spiritual ballad almost entirely instrumental, which fuses jazz rhythms with blues guitars. Whereas White riot is an up-tempo, nervous funk tune dedicated to all those who are ready to stand up for their ideals. The Boozoo Bajou remix of "Afrolicious": the German duo took a lot of sounds from the original but in a dubby way and the result is electronically funky with a reggae atmosphere and a western steel guitar. Gecko Turner come from Spain with their P-funk interpretation of "Milano Calibro 9", courtesy of Lovemonk Records, while uptempo cinematic Koom.h delivers an intriguing and stylish remix of the title track "Experiments in Ambient Soul". The two vocal-jazz tracks in the album, written with Don Freeman, are re-shaped to new form by the work of two amongst nowadays trendiest producers: Yam Who?(The World she Made) and Parov Stelar(Destination Moon). In the same dancefloor perspective surely feature the house-funky Milano Calibro 9 by Madrid de Los Austrias and the mid-tempo breakbeat house Diamonds & Comforts produced by Double Beat. Another great achievement from this groovy Italian group -- an album that's head and shoulders above anything they were doing just a few short years ago! The Dining Rooms deepen their sound more and more with each new record -- hitting a range of tones and colors that take them far beyond their initially simple rhythms, and into a space that's filled with thoughtful lyrics and sensitively-penned tunes! Most of the tracks here hit a groove that's somewhere between mid and downtempo -- about half of which feature vocals by guests who include Toco, Dodo Nkishi, Sean Martin, Renaud Chaure, and George Anne Kalweit. There's a fair bit of Fender Rhodes sliding through the tunes, and some warm acoustic basslines as well -- really grounding the music in a classic sort of style, even though the overall execution is fairly contemporary. Pepe Deluxé is a Finnish electronic music oriented band, formed in 1996 by DJ Slow JA-Jazz and James Spectrum in Helsinki, Finland. They started to experiment with sounds of hip hop, big beat, breakbeat and downtempo.
