动画师兼插画师Malcolm Sutherland是加拿大人，他早期在亚伯达艺术设计学院学习版画，在2002年搬到蒙特利尔在National Film Board of Canada (NFB)电影公司担任动画导演，并在康考迪亚大学学习电影制作，Malcolm绘制了漫画书《OOLA DUG》，并在近期制作了一部动画《The Astronomers Dream》，该片的预告片已在其官网上发布，该片的角色设计带有浓重的版画风格，角色造型迥异。故事讲述了一个饥饿的天文学家在工作中遇到了一个难题，他还没解决就睡着了，在梦中他发现解决问题的方法不在外太空，而是在他潜意识的超现实食物链中……

这部片子时长2分22秒但是镜头转接却非常之快，历时半年，作画数1131幀。但是这部片子并非出自工作室之手，而是是由5个在校学生完成的片子。
作品的场景风格与恶童有几分神似，动作方面相当夸张，而且是典型的日式夸张动画，与之前看到的欧美的夸张风格不一样，让人想起黑客帝国动画版里面的渡边信一郎导演的《世界纪录》，可见在日本动画学校，原画方面的功力相当深厚。

Just watched this on the National Film Board of Canada site where they have about 300 of their material presented for your enjoyment. Having previously viewed and commented on a couple of shorts associated with animator Ryan Larkin, I was excited when Street Musique was presented on the NFB site twice in both French and English title form (otherwise, it's the same film). Starting with black-and-white live-action of a fiddle player and a mandolin player performing on a downtown sidewalk, Larkin then does abstract line drawings on white that become images that are very hard to describe. He then does some watercolor (at least that's what I think it is) images that are likewise. All this is done to the music of those two players that matches the drawings perfectly. Nothing else to say except for anyone who loves abstract animation, I highly recommend Ryan Larkin's Street Musique.

題材都是現成的，一個是Mordecai Richler的成名作，一個是弗兰茨.卡夫卡的同名小說改編。Caroline Leaf在玻璃上灑上海灘沙作畫，每一個畫面拍攝兩個frames後進行修改，再拍攝下一個畫面。這種作畫方式的特點是不能夠修改錯誤，如果犯了錯誤，別無選擇只能夠跟它繼續相處。毀掉重畫是不可能的。所以這種作畫方式的本質很像是自由寫作（free writing），作者讓筆自己把意念傳遞到紙上，如果出了錯誤就順其自然。也就是說，要有一點禪意。雖然說是作畫方式的要求，但隱約在畫風裡也可以讀到一點。

Morir de Amor is a charming little tale. It's a story that focuses on two caged parrots reminiscing of memories past as their owner sleeps nearby. A rather important memory that the owner was not privy to. While the beginning starts out rather ho hum it quickly recovers with its quirky charm, humor, and rather subtly becomes rather poignant as the story nears completion.

This short film tells the story of Jesus' birth without being sentimental. It uses a quite simple style of animation and no words. Yet, the end product is simply amazing. The film itself is mostly sepia-toned or sepia wash over color. As for the art style, it looks almost like folk art, but it also is quite complex because there is ...

Good animated short film about a corporate guru who settles in Blowhard, a city where there's a lot of dragons, but no electricity or heat. But our man has a plan: use the dragons to produce power! And so a new utilities is born, Consolidated Dragon! But the dragons are a non-renewable source of energy. Soon, black-outs are inevitable. And those environmentalists who want to save the dragons! This is not good for Consolidated Dragon's profitability. Oh! but they forgot about wind power! Great way to look at our society and its materialistic way of life. Made in 1978 but still of its time.

An Artist violently grinds stones and uses the sand to create animated drawings. His first picture is the Garden of Eden. Once Eve becomes pregnant, all the tribulations of the real world are unleashed upon her. She follows through dream-like sequences populated with crying birds, brick-wall-faced bureaucrats and pensive philosophers in seemingly petrified poses. Irritated, repressed and allured by each other, the creatures on the screen start living a life of their own. Gradually, a dark climax builds up. Will the Artist himself be able to handle so much emotional intensity?

The best thing about KATTEN MONS is the incredibly cool claymation art. The story itself of a very, very hungry cat that eats anything and everything is only okay, but it doesn't matter too much since the film is more like a piece of art than a traditional film. As for the clay, the story is told using two-dimensional ableaux that morph and change before your eyes. It's all rather hypnotic and cool and is well worth seeing.
