一个好友推荐我听Thirteen Senses的首张大碟的时候，兴奋地说比去年英伦新锐团体Keane还动听，于是找来这张唱片。去年因为Keane以钢琴替代吉他的新鲜之举大获成功之后，我也猜想英国必定会有类似的团体跟着发片，果然就来了这队Thirteen Senses。对他们的背景不算了解，网络里也一直没有得到更全面的资讯，去年9月发表首张专辑《The Invitation》的这队英国新团，似乎还没有引起更广泛的关注。
因为之前有朋友拿来与Keane相比，听的时候也就不那么客观。其实Thirteen Senses这样的乐队，若没有Keane在之前那么风光，的确有望进入2004年英国一线。不过有了Keane在商业上的成功，Thirteen Senses的歌曲就显得不那么流行了。他们的音乐在制作上将钢琴做为主要的Groove进程元素，不知道是不是受到Keane的启发，不过象类似的编曲之前也有惨兮兮的Starsailor，只是Thirteen Senses在吉他方面的表现仍旧会让人觉得他们是一支不折不扣的吉他乐队。虽说他们的歌曲不那么流行，但绝对悦耳清新，也因少有过于易记的旋律反而会令人在听觉上不容易疲劳。相比Keane的过耳不忘来，Thirteen Senses更耐听。主唱的歌声会令我想起那队不太有建树的Geneva来，英国腔调在indie乐迷来说，无论唱成什么样都会觉得亲切，更何况Thirteen Senses的歌声那么单纯清澈。音乐中松弛的节奏，悠扬美艳的吉他，绝对不容indie乐迷错过。
女朋友跟我一起听，说每次听的感觉都有所不同，因为Thirteen Senses的歌声并不象keane那般惊艳，反而会令人平均地注意到整体乐队的表现，每次聆听都会被新的细节感动。要说有些作品也不失波澜壮阔的感觉，只是没有表现的那么嚣张，而是更多内敛。
如果说Keane的成功会令人对他们下一张专辑的期待值过高的话，那么Thirteen Senses的这张唱片，只会让你更平静地等待他们的新作问世，是否有突破都不重要，没有大卖的热门歌曲，也就不会招来附庸风雅的弄潮听众。或许这也是一种绝好的结果。
顺便说一句，Thirteen Senses的主唱也是一张娃娃脸，太多与Keane的相似之处，难免我的朋友会那么介绍他们了。他们的不同，自有听者去品味。

Four years after the release of their landmark debut in 2004, MTV VMA Award-winning, Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum Island Records group The Killers have completed their fourth album - and first new studio album in two years - DAY & AGE, featuring the new single, "Human" debuting worldwide September 22nd, while the digital single will be released September 30th. The new album hits stores November 25th - two days before Thanksgiving.
DAY & AGE was produced by Stuart Price, a key figure in electronic music (Les Rhythmes Digitales) who previously worked with The Killers on "Don't Shoot Me Santa," their 2007 Christmas single; as well as music on their 2007 compilation, Sawdust. Over the past five years, Price has worked as a producer, mixer, programmer, and keyboardist, including The Killers' "Mr Brightside" remix which was Grammy Nominated.
The Killers - Brandon Flowers on vocals and keyboards, guitarist David Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci - found time to complete their new album while also wrapping up their biggest summer rock festival season in the U.S. and abroad. Historic headlining gigs at England's prestigious Leeds and Reading fests coincided with an appearance on the cover of NME's August 8th issue. Earlier in 2008, the Killers took home top honors for Best Band of the Year and Best Track of the Year ("Tranquilize") at the annual NME Awards USA gala, at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on April 23rd.
DAY & AGE comes one year after the release of Sawdust (November 2007), a 17-song collection of previously unreleased session tracks, B-sides, rarities and one-offs. The album was assembled at a recording studio in New York's Hell's Kitchen, where the Killers worked with Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Lou Reed two recordings. Two singles and videos were issued: "Shadowplay" (from the motion picture soundtrack of Control, Anton Corbijn's biopic of Ian Curtis), and "Tranquilize".
The Killers' RIAA platinum second album Sam's Town (October 2006) debuted at #2 and spun off two hit singles: the #1 Modern Rock "When You Were Young," nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Short Form Music Video; and "Read My Mind," the band's first #1 at Triple-A. Their worldwide 5 million-selling debut Hot Fuss (June 2004) was the longest-running rock album inside the top 50 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for all of 2005, logging 94 weeks on the chart - 53 of those inside the Top 50. The album spun off four solid hit singles - the Grammy-nominated anthem, "Somebody Told Me," the VMA-winning (and Grammy-nominated) "Mr. Brightside," the Modern rock hit "Smile Like You Mean It," and the Grammy-nominated "All These Things That I've Done."

Perhaps you weren't convinced of the Verve's staying power until recently. Before the release of Urban Hymns, skeptics wondered if they could ever match the explosive power of their earlier dedications. In 1995, most critics dismissed their offerings of the time as vapid, romantic excursions. To their credit, the Verve have sustained their shadow rock legitimacy while introducing string arrangements, piano fills, and slide guitar. Nowhere are these stirring traits more obvious than in the epic single "Bitter Sweet Symphony." The debut album from this Midwestern trio (a quintet when in the studio) is a collection of refreshingly timeless weirdo pop music -- tuneful without being aggressively hooky, analog-sounding without being aggressively retro, unabashedly emotional without being emo. If someone told you these songs had been written in 1975 you might not bat an eye, nor would you be surprised to learn that they were written in 2004. Bandleader Scott Windsor sings in a dreamy, slightly affected style that lies somewhere between Gart Greenside's effeminate whisper and labelmate Bryce Avary's apple-cheeked enthusiasm. The band supplies soft and billowy accompaniment, and when he belts out the soaring refrain on "Ghost" or tiptoes through the more delicate (but equally gorgeous) melody of "Broken Ice," it's pure goose-pimple time. Moments like those make it easy to overlook the preciousness of the little lyric quotes under the song titles on the back of the package or goofy, faux-elegant song titles like "June, Summer, Rose." The fact is, Windsor does come across as more than a little bit pretentious at various moments throughout the album. But you can't hold it against him when he delivers the pure pop goods as effectively as he does here. And this is just the first album, folks.

Keane release the fourth single from their number one album Hopes & Fears, entitled 'This Is The Last Time'. Since it's release, this track has fast become a live favorite with the band's ever growing army of fans. Out Of Nothing is produced by Youth (best known for his work with The Verve, Killing Joke and The Orb) features the band's signature souring rock balladry, complete with emotionally charged lyrics and dramatic production.
