根据加拿大作家 Michael Ondaatje 同名小说改编的电影《英国病人》以北非撒哈拉沙漠为背景，描述了二次世界大战中一位匈牙利贵族和他理想中的女人的爱情故事。这部由沙漠、飞机、地图、战争、壁画和匈牙利歌谣所构筑的影片被誉为"如油画般的柔美"，而在音乐上又时刻弥散着沧桑、悲苦和多情的风貌，仿佛是向人们诉说爱情的无奈和痛楚。音乐在这部影片中可以说扮演着非常重要的角色，28个乐段，75分钟的长度让影片充满音乐的律动。 当年同时获得奥斯卡金像奖、英国演艺学院奖及金球奖三个大奖的最佳配乐。
为影片《英国病人》担任配乐的是曾以《巴黎野玫瑰》而蜚声世界乐坛的法国著名电影配乐大师 Gabriel Yared。他那极具人物个性和地域性的配乐，加上导演 Minghella 精心挑选的既成音乐作品，给听者的感觉是这张专辑试图用音乐向人们讲述又一个二战故事。熟悉 Gabriel Yared 音乐的朋友可能知道，他的音乐一向很讲究气氛，在表现手法上，喜欢采用双簧管货单簧管独奏加之行云流水般的弦乐配合来体现一种"孤独之美"，这一点我们可以通过影片的主题曲有较为明显的感受。从《英国病人》原声专辑中的音乐，我们不难发现，Gabriel Yared 根据影片的时代特征和地理环境，将其音乐风格划分为具有复古气息的巴洛克音乐和展现北非风土人情的阿拉伯音乐两大类。据笔者看，这样的安排正符合导演的意愿。专辑当中有一首很特别的巴赫的"戈尔德堡变奏曲"选曲叫"Aria"，这是由来自北加利福尼亚的著名演奏家 Julie Steinberg 为片中 Juliette Binoche 扮演的女护士 Hana 特别演奏的。从这首曲子当中，我们同样可以感受到 Hana 所要表达的那份充满孤寂的情意，曲子的选用与 Yared 所创作的巴洛克式的乐章浑然一体，直指人心，具有催泪的效果。
除了以上提到的具有复古色彩的巴洛克音乐以外，专辑的另外一处精彩之笔便是传统匈牙利民谣的选用。原声唱片的一开始，您即刻能听到一段空灵、凄美的女声独唱，这是享有"匈牙利国宝"之美名的女歌手 Marta 和她的乐队 Muzsikas 表演的一首匈牙利民谣"爱情，爱情"。据影片导演 Anthony Minghella 所说，他当初在创作剧本时，曾专门聆听了这支匈牙利民歌复兴运动中颇具代表性的组合表演的歌曲，对其中主音歌手 Marta 那发自灵魂深处的特殊嗓音大为赞赏。他认为这首"爱情，爱情"对于电影及原声专辑具有关键作用。正如剧中人 Katharine 所说，这首歌乍一听就象是阿拉伯地区的歌谣，其实这首常常让你联想到广阔无垠的非洲大沙漠的曲子竟然是一首地道的匈牙利民谣，如此奇特的效果与影片中的这位"英国病人"原来是匈牙利人带给观众的意外如出一辙，实在妙不可言！说到这一点，倒使笔者想起导演说的一句话："《英国病人》喜欢在人物的国籍上作文章，我想音乐同样可以在地域性上玩一些花招，有时这种做法会有出奇制胜的效果。"
作为一部堪与《日瓦戈医生》相媲美的爱情史诗片的电影原声专辑，《英国病人》除了在巴洛克和阿拉伯式的整体音乐风格上令人动容之外，还安排了不少富有时代特征的既成音乐的歌曲，其中包括老牌爵士乐艺人 Ella Fizgerald、Benny Goodman、Fred Astaire 以及 The Shepherd''s Hotel 爵士乐团深情演绎的插曲。尽管这些曲子在影片经常是断断续续地出现，但这些时代音乐小品却让乐迷不知不觉沉醉在当时的背景而难以自拔。与现今不少靠商业性的歌曲来拼凑的所谓电影原声专辑，Minghella 和 Yared 用心良苦是显而易见的。两座电影配乐大奖也是当之无愧的。
众所周知，与气势恢弘的美国电影配乐相比，欧洲的电影配乐一向学院气息很浓。它们讲求的是小中见大，即以简单朴素的旋律来展示人物的内心，以静态的音乐来表现动态的场景。这样有时虽会给人一种沉闷枯燥的感觉，但也值得乐迷长时间地细细咀嚼。Gabriel Yared 说："《英国病人》的主题曲本可以象《辛德勒的名单》那样感人肺腑，只是它的主旋律不如后者令人印象深刻。虽然，人们都认为这张专辑中的音乐十分符合影片的内容，但我总觉得少了些什么。由于曲目上的限制，一向擅长演奏巴洛克音乐的圣马丁室内乐团的表现也不如他们在《莫扎特传》当中的尽情发挥。但无论如何，我对乐队的钢琴师 John Constable 和音乐歌曲的编排还是很满意的。" 摘自哭泣的天使

The full details of the third soundtrack album for Lucasfilm’s Disney+ original series Andor have been revealed. The album features the original score from the ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth episodes of the show composed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Britell (Succession, Cruella, Moonlight, She Said, The Underground Railroad, Don’t Look Up). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 9 (pushed back from its originally announced release date last week) by Walt Disney Records. A first volume featuring the composer’s score from Episodes 1-4 was released in October and a second volume featuring his music from Episodes 5-8 was released last month. Andor is created by Tony Gilroy and stars Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw and Kyle Soller. The full first season is now available to stream on Disney+ and a second season is currently in production.
