Electronic musician Walter Carlos was born in 1938 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (USA) and had a big interest in both music and technology. At the age of ten he composed his first piece and at 14 he build a small home computer. Three years later he assembled an electronic music studio and created his first electronic musical composition, manipulated with some tape recording.
With the wish to develop an electronic sound producing unit which could validly be called a musical instrument, Carlos began a collaboration with engineer Robert Moog in 1966. The result was a prototype of Carlos' special synthesizer on which he performed and recorded his realizations of Bach and other composers (the Switched-On series) and his music for the musical score of A Clockwork Orange.
In 1972, he had a sex-change becoming Wendy Carlos, and has been known the rest of her career with this name. This means that the artists name Walter Carlos refers to a specific period of time and a small set of releases, especially the first Switched-Ons.

Fox Searchlight Picture's 1st February (UK Film Release Date) coming-of-age comedy JUNO, directed by Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking). The narrative centers on whip-smart Juno (Ellen Page, in a breakthrough role), a teenage girl faced with an unplanned pregnancy from an afternoon with the charmingly unassuming Bleeker (Michael Cera). Juno finds her unborn baby the perfect set of parents in Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), an affluent suburban couple who are eager to adopt. Along with the total support of her parents, (Allison Janney and J.K. Simmons) Juno conquers her problems head-on, displaying a youthful exuberance that is both smart and unexpected. The film was an official selection at this year's Telluride, Toronto, and London film festivals and received the Best Film award at the Rome International Film Festival.

It's hard not to start feeling sentimental after hearing the loose collection of love ballads that comprise the Notting Hill soundtrack. The romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant is filled with the modern sounds of love--as sung by everyone from pop harmonizers (Boyzone, 98 Degrees) to classic soulsters (Bill Withers, Al Green). The Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'" adds a garage-rock edge, but if you're not up for slow-burning love tunes, this soundtrack probably isn't for you.
