In researching for this review, we’ve discovered that whatever you read about eaststrikewest, the word ‘epic’ will crop up somewhere. Each band member probably has it tattooed on them somewhere, as this is a group who want you to know just how ‘epic’ they can be. Following the current fad for double-v’s (see also: Lovvers and Wavves), eaststrikewest’s debut mini-album, 'w o l v v e s' certainly attempts to show you that.

2009 release, the follow-up to their debut LP Not For Want Of Trying. Sing The Word Hope In Four-Part Harmony once again takes the wide-screen expanses and beauty of Post-Rock and combines it with the immediacy and brutality of Hardcore. This is an intentionally 'accessible' instrumental record - The climaxes and breakdowns condensed into a concise 30 minutes of noise. It's difficult for an instrumental band to make a serious social statement without the use of lyrics, but Sing The Word Hope In Four-Part Harmony is just that. Set against the background of the current recession, and born out of six months of touring their debut LP, this album is a journal of four twenty-something's thoughts and experiences during tough times. Saxon Shore is an American post-rock band consisting of members from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Brooklyn, New York.
Saxon Shore's overall sound has been compared to Caspian, Explosions in the Sky, Boards of Canada, and God is an Astronaut.
Saxon Shore formed in 2001 as the joint project of guitarist Matthew Doty and drummer Josh Tillman. The two wrote several songs that, in time, were recorded for the duo's debut album Be a Brigt Blue, released on Doty's very own imprint, Broken Factory Records. Tillman's brother Zach was recruited for bass duties during the studio process and found himself being a full-fledged member.
After a host of tours across the United States (in which the band recruited three separate bassists), Doty moved to Seattle and later exchanged four-tracks with Josh Tillman, who was living in upstate New York at the time. Studio time reserved in Atlanta eventually blossomed into their next effort, Four Months of rkness. Traveling musician Matt Stone contributing on guitar and like Zach before him, joined, making the group a four-piece. The album marked a change in Saxon Shore's sound from the light indie pop of Be a Bright Blue to the more melodic Four Months.
