《文章讲话》一书收录了夏丐尊、叶圣陶两位先生有关文章写作的十篇文字。前七篇是1935—1937年在《中学生》杂志《文章偶话》栏目中连载的；后三篇是夏先生利用1937年暑假赶写的，但因上海“八·一三”抗战爆发，而未能刊登。直到1938年，开明书店才结集出版。
