I figured, surely it can't be as flawed as The Simpsons Game was. After all, how hard can it be to make a decent action-platformer? You don't have to reinvent the wheel, just copy existing mechanics and decorate it with the Futurama flavor. But this turned out to be an absolute disaster.

For all its flaws, at least The Simpsons Game was easy and much more creative than this.

Futurama starts off at the iconic Planet Express building where you do some item-hunting and platforming. There's nice music playing in the background, you keep running into gags and references to the show, it's great. That functions as a tutorial level.

Then the first actual level is a sewer level. Not that I'm completely against the idea, since the sewers were a common location in the show, but it's weird to make it the first level. Either way, I was excited to see the familiar environments and characters. ... None of that shit was there. The whole level was just a bunch of corridors and platforming sections, and tons upon tons of enemies. It gets absolutely ridiculous. This game quickly turns into a third-person shooter where you have to rely on shitty auto-aim. You can aim manually, but then you can't move, which is crucial in this game because the enemies can kill you in like three melee attacks if you're on full HP. Most of the time you're not on full HP because this game is brutal. And even the enemies look nothing like any of the mutants in the show. In fact their design seems kinda lazy. Like they have little to no distinguishing features.

But I forced myself to get through that horrendous sewer level in hopes that we'll get out on the surface afterwards, but nope. Next level is the subway (or underground or metro, whatever you call it). And again it's just corridors with enemies and occasional brutal platforming sections. You get a shotgun and the game leans even more into shooting. But man, what kinda shooter are we talking about? The level design is dogshit, the AI is dogshit, there are virtually no physics, little no weapon variety and you can't even aim properly. This is no shooter, and it shouldn't be trying to be one. I played through half the level and gave up. This is just torture.

My rating here mainly reflects my love for the show and the potential that the tutorial level showed.
