Atom: Journey Across the Subatomic Cosmos
作者: Isaac Asimov / D.F. Bach 出版社: Plume 1992 - 8
"Amazing... If you've been searching for a basic text on how the atom works, this is it." --

"A masterpiece."--
The legendary Isaac Asimov starts what is perhaps the most fascinating of all his books with a simple query: how finely can a piece of matter be divided? But like many simple questions, this one leads us on a far-flung quest for a final answer, a search that becomes a series of beautifully structured building blocks of knowledge.
It begins with the earliest speculations and investigations by the Greeks and Romans, and then, step by step and century by century, it traces the path of discovery that revealed more and more of the nature of the atom, of light, of gravity, of the electromagnetic force--and even the nature and structure of the universe.
also encompasses such phenomena as light and electricity; the protons, neutrons and quarks that are the fundamental units of the universe; hard-to-observe "anti-particles"; and other strange bits of matter that challenge our assumptions about the very nature of space and time.
is the only book of its kind, by the renowned author whose genius for bringing clarity and excitement to complex subjects has made him the most celebrated science author of our time.
I, Robot [
Harper Voyager 2013 - 3
A beautiful clothbound edition of I, Robot, the classic collection of robot stories from the master of the genre.
Earth is ruled by master-machines but the Three Laws of Robotics have been designed to ensure humans maintain the upper hand:
1) A robot may not injure a human being or allow a human being to come to harm
2) A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
But what happens when a rogue robot’s idea of what is good for society contravenes the Three Laws?
It's Been a Good Life [图书] 谷歌图书
Prometheus Books 2009 - 09
New one-volume autobiography spans Asimov's life for the first time! As one of the most gifted and prolific writers of the twentieth century, Isaac Asimov became legendary for his inexhaustible creativity, wide-ranging intellectual curiosity, and talent for explaining complex subjects in clear, concise prose. While regaling his readers with an incredible opus of almost five hundred entertaining and illuminating science fiction and nonfiction books, he also found time to write a three-volume autobiography. Now these volumes have been condensed into one by Asimov's wife, Janet, who also shares excerpts from letters he wrote to her. Together these writings provide an intimate portrait of a creative genius whose love of learning and playing with ideas is evident on every page. Reading this autobiography is like sitting down with Isaac Asimov and experiencing his witty, engaging, and brilliant personality firsthand. We are treated to many marvelous stories about his upbringing in Depression-era Brooklyn, his early fascination with the new science fiction pulp magazines, the thrill of his first published story, the creation of his well-known story "Nightfall," the genesis of the Foundation series, and the evolution of his creative life as a writer. He also reveals his inner thoughts about and experiences with various luminaries in science and science fiction. Above all, Asimov's autobiography conveys unbounded enthusiasm for his craft, the infectious joy of learning and creating, complete intellectual honesty, his strong humanist convictions, and his infinite fund of good humor and optimism even at the end of his life - all told in the lively clear writing style that was his trademark. Although Janet Jeppson Asimov concludes this work with a shocking revelation about her husband's death, the volume is clearly intended as a celebration - as the title suggests - of a wonderful, creative life. As a poignant coda to this work, Janet has appended one short story that was Isaac's favorite, and his 400th essay on this thoughts about science.
Understanding Physics [
Barnes & Noble Publishing 1988
Volume one traces the theoretical exploration of these concepts from an essentially Newtonian viewpoint. Newton's great achievement was in synthesizing the laws of motion and energy and in developing a unifying theory of universal gravitation. Concepts now considered common knowledge were at the time seen as so far fetched that even Newton himself felt that, although they must obey the natural laws he discovered, "angels" were required to move everything. The second volume views the development of these concepts from the viewpoint of the 19th century, when much of the theoretical work of physics was being transformed into the practical technology of the Industrial Revolution. Physics was the intellectual fuel of industrialization. The author also shows how the development of 19th century physics led to the Second Scientific Revolution of Einstein's Relativity and Plank's Quantum Theory. In the final volume, he deals with a central concern of 20th century physics -- the description of the infinitesimally small particles and waves that constitute the very fabric of the universe. The quest takes us to the frontiers of physics today where physicists speculate about the birth and boundaries of the universe, instantaneous particle communication and even other dimensions which may describe parallel realities.

In the Beginning: Science Faces God in the Book of Genesis [图书] Goodreads
In the Beginning: Science Faces God in the Book of Genesis Creation. The beginning of time. The origin of life. In our Western civilization, there are two influential accounts of beginnings. One is the Biblical account, compiled more than two thousand years ago by Judean writers who based much of their thinking on the Babylonian astronomical lore of the day. The other is the account of modern science, which, in the last century, has slowly built up a coherent picture of how it all began. Both represent the best thinking of their times, and in this line-by-line annotation of the first eleven chapters of Genesis, Isaac Asimov carefully and even-handedly compares the two accounts, pointing out where they are similar and where they are different. There is no version of primeval history, preceding the discoveries of modern science, that is as rational and as inspiriting as that of the Book of Genesis, Asimov says. However, human knowledge does increase, and if the Biblical writers, had written those early chapters of Genesis knowing what we know today, we can be certain that they would have written it completely differently. Isaac Asimov brings to this fascinating subject his wide-ranging knowledge of science and history and his award-winning ability to explain the complex with accuracy, clarity, and wit.

Los propios dioses [图书] Goodreads

Prelude to Foundation
