World Citizen " is the fourth singles collaboration between two seminal figures in electronic pop - Sylvian and Sakamoto. The lyrical content of both songs marks a departure for Sylvian's usual oblique, poetic style.
There are no references to Tarkovsky, and French left bank existentialism as was the case in his finely crafted solo albums such as "Secrets of the Beehive" and "Brilliant Trees". Instead, he opts for a direct assault on the Bush administration and American multi-national shennanigans; The result of this approach is one of curious nievity and sincere honesty.
The music accompanyment in " World Citizen" is suprisingly pedestrian given his recently successful foray into glitch electronica and Improv experimentalsim with last years' "Blemish". However, " World Citizen (I won't be dissapointed) offers a much more varied pallette of sounds with Sketchshow (Haroumi Hosono and Yuhkiro Takahashi) at the production helm. Overall, a delight to see Sylvian standing up to America (His adopted homeland)and offer more overtly political material in a way that dosen't cynically jump on the artistic bandwagon of " Yankbashing" like Madonna and other artists in the mainstream.

Christopher Willits and Ryuichi Sakamoto's new release, "Ocean Fire", is a sublime soundtrack for the ocean. It is an intense and stirring wash of cascading tones and textured harmony. Willits + Sakamoto surprise with rare form in this collaboration, creating a sound world unlike anything they have produced previously. Each artist has gently pulled the other into new sonic territory. Sakamoto's gorgeous processed piano sound reflects beautiful shimmering clusters of notes, a new aspect of Willits' pioneering guitar/computer approach. Together, their sounds merge effortlessly, creating seamless swells of gigantic melodic waves. "Ocean Fire" was recorded live at Sakamoto's studio in NYC in spring 2006. This CD is 20 tracks of typically beautiful music from the master of Japanese movie soundtracks. The movie itself tells the true story of Sakamoto Tetsumu, a boy, who at an early age went to Thailand to learn to be an elephant trainer. In the process he dies in Japan while trying to build an elephant park. That's it! The big promotion point here is that Shining Boy And Little Randy is the follow-up movie of Yagira Yuya, the kid who won best actor at the Cannes Film Festival last year for his performance in Kore-eda's Nobody Knows. Warner. 2005.
