Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds return with the new double album Ghosteen.
The album was recorded in 2018 and early 2019 at Woodshed in Malibu, Nightbird in Los Angeles, Retreat in Brighton and Candybomber in Berlin. It was mixed by Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Lance Powell and Andrew Dominik at Conway in Los Angeles.
Ghosteen is the seventeenth studio album from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, following 2016’s Skeleton Tree, and will be released via Ghosteen Ltd.

与上张专辑《MURDER BALLADS》（凶杀情歌）相距一年不足，NICK CAVE ＆ THE BAD SEEDS又有新专辑《THE BOATMAN”S CALL》（船夫的呼叫）推出。他们看来很勤快，创作力很旺盛，而且还多了一颗“BAD SEED”---------小提琴手WARREN ELLIS。
从94年的《LET LOVE IN》（来点爱）、96年的《MURDER BALLADS》到新作《THE BOATMAN”S CALL》，NICK CAVE ＆ THE BAD SEEDS向着一个方向，以种颇为定型的风格发展着，这个方向就是，从《LET LOVE IN》到《THE BOATMAN”S CALL》，NICK CAVE越来越平和、越来越温柔，甚至有点滥情。
从当年THE BIRTHDAY PARTY的《PRAYERS ON FIRE》（火中的祈祷者）到如今BAD SEEDS的《THE BOATMAN”S CALL》，音乐感觉是大相径庭的。虽说那种落寞颓废的情趣在一定程度上被保留了下来，但已逐渐被某些“积极”的作派所取代。和KYLIE MINOGUE合唱“WHERE THE WILD ROSES GROW”及两人的那些绯闻，造成了一定的轰动效应，但这是典型的哗众取宠。
如今，他已陷入爱情的泥淖中不能自拨。《THE BOATMAN”S CALL》描浓了他在《MURDER BALLADS》中的“大情圣”形象。从“INTO MY ARMS”、“THERE IS A KINGDOM”、“（ARE YOU）THE ONE THAT I”VE BEEN WAITING FOR？”、“WHERE DO WE GO NOW BUT NOWHERE？”、“WEST COUNTRY GIRL”、“BLACK HAIR”、“LDIOT PRAYER”、“FAR FROM ME”，直至专辑未尾将一声声“KISS ME、KISS ME”送入你的耳际的“GREEN EYES”，他是如斯的温柔，以至令你不敢联想至昔日THE BRITHDAY PARTY中的那个狂暴唐突的他。
当然，“情圣”NICK CAVE的情歌还是颇为悲观的，令他不时祈求上帝的庇佑和相助，可怜兮兮的，“杀伤力”不低。
“情圣”NICK CAVE意识到还应该显得有思想有社会责任心有正义感有同情心，于是有了“LIME---TREE ARBOUR”和“PEOPLE AIN T NO GOOD”这一类曲子，于是THE BOATMAN”S CALL》显得有了点份量。
整张专辑在不变的缓缓的、懒懒的音乐感觉中开始、结束。伴奏部份始终很低调，轻轻柔柔有气无力的，不知弹吉他的、打鼓的老兄录音时是否睡着过。

Nick Cave的最新专辑《No More Shall We Part》，再一次宣示Nick Cave的音乐风格，已经从过往的火焰般地狂热，降温为冰冷般的霜雪。不见得看得到成长的轨迹，却是Nick Cave选择的另一种音乐着墨。专辑中全部的舒缓古典歌谣，即使偶然出现的摇滚节奏也被冷却得稍纵即逝，Nick Cave在这张以情感为主题，至死不渝的专辑中，把对爱情的执着与不安，铺上深深的忧郁，将悲伤的情绪向下无限探底。
十二首歌曲都是叙事曲的型式，一首首陈述着相连的故事与际遇，没有开怀地欢笑，Nick Cave如受过风霜的慢调嗓音，就说明了悲剧的性质。《No More Shall We Part》从开头曲As I Sat Sadly By Her Side，就把专辑中通篇的绝望做了清楚的交待，而Nick Cave如散文诗般的文字依旧美丽，善于描绘出如电影图画般的意象，将人与人之间的情感，藉由简单地比喻，传神地表达出来，使得歌曲中的故事仿佛跃出歌中。身兼钢琴手的Nick Cave，也把琴音处?淼猛鹑缍斓挠甑我谎坏我坏蔚氐温湓谝蕴崆倨坛傻娜崛硌┑兀械拿恳皇赘瑁己虯s I sat Sadly By Her Side一样，词意感性而曲调优美，吉他手Micky Harvey和提琴手Warren Ellis负责的编曲，高密度的原音器乐成份让稀疏的琴音不致感到轻浮。
忧伤的情绪持续蔓延，渴望的心情不断沉潜，可能是呼天喊地，可能是大叫“上帝”，总之一切都天昏地暗，缺乏光明。而从忧伤的眼中，看到的也尽是不快乐的人、事、物。即使是就在身旁，也有仿佛即将分离的危机，即使是彼此相对，也都仿佛距离遥远。Nick Cave痛苦的吶喊，也在压抑中从头延伸到尾。
或许Nick Cave的转变，会让人他既往的乐迷无法适应，感觉Nick Cave背叛以往的反叛型式，而《No More Shall We Part》专辑的音乐色调太过一致，陈述的情感也缺乏多层次的变化，也可能遭人诟病。但是品味一下Nick Cave具有文艺气息的歌词，以及以吉他、钢琴、提琴组合而成的古典忧郁，Nick Cave在音乐气氛的塑造上，无疑是极为成功的。虽然Nick Cave可能再也无法走回头路，如果想要藉由优美的旋律，感染爱情中的酸苦本质，《No More Shall We Part》仍然是出色的专辑。

Skeleton Tree began its journey in late 2014 at Retreat Studios, Brighton, with further sessions at La Frette Studios, France in autumn 2015. The album was mixed at AIR Studios, London in early 2016.
The songs from the album are featured in the film One More Time With Feeling, directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly). The film was comissioned by Nick Cave and is to be the only public statement to accompany the albums’ release.
Given event's in his personal life prior to the release of the album, it's understandable that this album is sombre affair. Although accompanied by a film, it is an album in its own right, rather than a soundtrack. Having said that, the orchestration which forms the backdrop to Nick's rich, half spoken - half sung narratives, has a similar cinematic feel to the haunting, atmospheric film scores that Nick and Bad Seed Warren Ellis excel at.
It’s probably not going to be your choice of listening prior to a night out on the town, but if it’s darkness you’re after, no one does that better than Nick.

Nick Cave changed the sound of music as part of the seminal goth-punks The Birthday Party. With his band of 20 years, The Bad Seeds, his solo work has veered between poignant gospel-inflected ballads and the steamy thud of backwater blues and country. This double album showcases both these sides of Cave's songwriting, with The Bad Seeds rising to fine, even funky, form. "Abattoir" is more rock 'n' roll with gospel overtones and salacious grooves, while "Lyre" is rawer and more experimental with a lot of acoustic instrumentation.

Cave and Ellis composed, played and produced this compelling and intense soundtrack for director Andrew Dominik's savage tale of the true West, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. This soundtrack perfectly captures the charismatic and unpredictable nature of the film's central protagonist. Like the film, Cave and Ellis' music cuts through the mythic figure of Jesse James to reveal the complex, contradictory man beneath. Daring and passionately delivered, this beautiful soundtrack retains its captivating power even without the benefit of Dominik's images.

In the vast, empty expanse of the West Hall in London’s Alexandra Palace, Nick Cave sat alone at a piano and sang 21 songs from across his extensive back catalogue.
The performance was filmed by award winning Cinematographer Robbie Ryan (The Favourite, Marriage Story, American Honey) in Alexandra Palace’s stunning West Hall. It was edited by Nick Emerson (Lady Macbeth, Emma, Greta). The running time is approximately 90 minutes.

"Ever since I can remember hearing the Lazarus story, when I was a kid, you know, back in church, I was disturbed and worried by it. Traumatized, actually. We are all, of course, in awe of the greatest of Christ's miracles - raising a man from the dead - but I couldn't help but wonder how Lazarus felt about it. As a child it gave me the creeps, to be honest. I've taken Lazarus and stuck him in New York City, in order to give the song, a hip, contemporary feel. I was also thinking about Harry Houdini who spent a lot of his life trying to debunk the spiritualists who were cashing in on the bereaved. He believed there was nothing going on beyond the grave. He was the second greatest escapologist, Harry was, Lazarus, of course, being the greatest. I wanted to create a kind of vehicle, a medium, for Houdini to speak to us if he so desires, you know, from beyond the grave. Sometimes, late at night, if you listen to the song hard enough, you can hear his voice and the sad clanking of his chains. "I don't know what it is but there is definitely something going on upstairs", he seems to be saying. It is, most of all, an elegy to the New York City of the 70's." - Nick Cave

对于Nick Cave的音乐很难把他概观定论哥特，他的每一张专辑风格差异是如此之大。Tender Prey 是Nick Cave顶峰时期的作品，同以往比较这张专辑一样很难被规为是哪类风格，虽然这时候的Bad Seeds在音乐取向方面向哥特化靠拢。Tender Prey中存在着南方布鲁斯，死亡金属，和一个澳洲男子的各种成分，好了，那么现在有足够的理由将Tender Prey这专辑定位在“country-blues-goth"了吧。
