Toronto punk outfit Death from Above 1979 will release their sophomore album, The Physical World, on September 9th via Last Gang Records. In anticipation, it’s streaming in full via iTunes.
The 11-track effort marks the band’s first album in 10 years following 2004’s You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine. Though DFA broke up in 2006 over creative differences, they’ve resurfaced in the past three years for a number of live performances.
In an interview with NME, drummer/vocalist Sebastian Grainger discussed the pressure from fans to put out more material. “No matter what Jesse [Keeler] and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death from Above,” Grainger said. “It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death from Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.’”
He added that the new album is a driving force behind their upcoming tour, saying, “It will permit us to go play the shows we want to play and it gives us the freedom to do what we want.”

Magneta Lane is Lexi Valentine, Nadia King, and French. Casablanca/Republic Records will be releasing Crystal Castles s 4th full-length studio album Amnesty (I) on 8/19/2016. Crystal Castles are an experimental electronic band formed in 2003 in Toronto, Ontario by songwriter/producer Ethan Kath, known for their chaotic live shows and lo-fi melancholic homemade productions. They released many limited vinyl singles between 2006 and 2007 before releasing a trilogy of critically acclaimed albums between 2008 and 2012. Their debut album, Crystal Castles, was released in 2008 and was listed on NME's "Top 100 Greatest Albums of the Decade". In 2010 their second album, titled (II), charted on the Billboard 200, and includes their first worldwide charting single, "Not In Love", featuring vocalist Robert Smith of The Cure. Their third album, (III), was released on November 12, 2012 and was the number 1 album of 2012 on Tumblr and also on Hype Machine. The band is currently preparing for an upcoming US tour from 9/6-10/9. in a little over two short years, weaves have gone from a collection of voice memos on jasmyn burke’s iphone to establishing themselves as one of the most stridently individual acts to emerge from toronto’s fertile and multifaceted diy scene. led by the collaborative efforts of jasmyn burke and morgan waters, the band have built a devoted audience while capturing the attention of the international media with a brand of ebullient, art-damaged pop music as difficult to categorize as it is to ignore.
the group began in a series of sessions in the bedroom of water’s chinatown apartment, where waters and burke would record increasingly elaborate demos built from burke’s phone full of songs. they transitioned to a full band line up in late 2013, adding bassist zach bines and drummer spencer cole, and quickly set to work recording their debut ep which was released on buzz records in the summer of 2014. the ep made an immediate splash, garnering praise from noisey, rookie and spin, and earning weaves a “band to watch” tag from rolling stone. glowing write ups of the band’s performances at that year’s cmj from the guardian and nme followed, cementing weaves’ reputation as one of the year's most exciting new bands.
word continued to spread in 2015 with the release of their single “tick,” ahead of the band’s first european tour, which included dates with hinds, dan deacon and pissed jeans, and appearances at glastonbury and iceland airwaves. with their already sterling live show only sharpened by their time on the road, the band returned to cmj in october and emerged as one of the hottest acts of the festival, earning "best of the festival" write ups from npr and the new york times among others, and further building the anticipation for their forthcoming full length.
weaves have been working on their debut lp for almost as long as they have been a band, tracking with leon taheny (dilly dally, owen pallett, austra) in sessions that span most of the last two years. mixed by alex newport (death cab for cutie, melvins, at the drive in) and mastered by john greenham (death grips, sky ferreira), the result is an album that traverses the band’s history, exploring every facet of their always adventurous approach to pop music and leaving no idea unexplored. filled beyond bursting with hooks and possibilities, it’s the sound of a band propelled forward by the thrill of discovering the limits of their sound and gleefully pushing past them. “we’re always trying to push ourselves,” says waters, “sometimes it feels like bands aren’t necessary, like they’re not the one’s pushing music forward, so i think we’re trying to hopefully prove that bands aren’t boring. if we are going to be a band and if we are going to do this guitar, bass and drums thing then we might as well see how much we can fuck it up.”

essy Lanza's second album 'Oh No' is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making, which used to calm her nerves, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill. The exclamation 'Oh No', for Jessy, marks yet another incident of randomness interrupting her tranquillity. All of which seems at odds with the confidence and spontaneity of this second album as well as recent collaborations with the likes of Caribou, DJ Spinn and Morgan Geist and his Galleria project. Made in her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, with production partner Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys, the plaintive, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct, self-assured and joyful album. As with many artists whose hometown lie off the usual network of cultural hotspots, 'Oh No' is driven positively by the idea of making music that isn't inspired by where she lives. Instead, the album resonates more with the philosophy of experimental pop of Japanese 80s electro outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and Jessy's breathless, pitched vocals are reminiscent of YMO collaborator Miharu Koshi. Playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, 'Oh No' has an infectious energy that has been brewing in her live shows since her first album.
As Jessy says ‘I want to make people feel good and I want to make myself feel good’. The album oscillates between the languid, coiled, arpeggiated slow jams of ‘New Ogi’, 'Going Somewhere', 'Begins', 'Could Be U', 'I Talk BB' and the low slung 808 groove of 'Vivica', where Jessy’s vocal gymnastics run wild over minimal drums and synths, and the catchy upbeat boogie of ‘VV Violence’, ‘Never Enough’, 'Oh No' and the high point 'It Means I Love You’ which has a sparse addictive bounce with a pitched up vocal refrain and a nod to Shangaan electro. The trials of dealing with nervousness are also encrypted into the artwork, such as the plants that recur in the sleeve and videos. As Jessy remarked, "I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants. I've been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference." Anxiety and botanical remedies or not, 'Oh No' is a bold second album from Jessy and a marked step forward for her sound. Catch her as she tours with Junior Boys in February, plays EU headline shows from May to June, and in July has a North American Tour.

加拿大独立摇滚乐队拱廊之火(Arcade Fire)即将于8月2日发行专辑《郊外》(The Suburbs)。在推出两张成功的专辑之后，拱廊之火的第三张录音室专辑非常让歌迷期待。
《郊外》华丽的开篇唱到：“当我年轻的时候，希望有个女儿，我想牵着她的手，给她看美好的事物，在一切被破坏以前。”这种闲聊式的独白通常会以民谣来表达，拱廊之火却将它与体育馆摇滚结合起来，鼓点和键盘的旋律就像洪水一样滚滚而来。看来这才是赶时髦和尼尔扬结合的方式。和他们的音乐导师U2、布鲁斯·斯普林斯汀不同，拱廊之火对生活细节不感兴趣。当巴特勒唱到开车去休斯顿时，他只是说“我们听到引擎失灵的声音”，而斯普林斯汀则会告诉你到底是哪个零件出了问题(例如《Racing in the Street》<街头比赛>)。但这正是拱廊之火广受欢迎的原因之一，他们邀您共同体验解决问题的经过和成功后的喜悦。

2016 release from the Canadian punks. Sum 41 return with their first album in over five years with 13 Voices. The quintet is back with their signature choruses and metallic guitar riffs that fans have come to love throughout the band's career. The album is the first to feature guitarist Dave Baksh since 2004's Chuck and the first to feature second drummer Frank Zummo, who replaced founding member Steve Jocz in 2015. It is also Sum 41's first album as a five-piece and all new lineup, as it features both Baksh and Tom Thacker on lead guitar.
