These lean, athletic visions seem to stand testament to a kind of survival – a proof of life. Muscular shapes maintained only to a level of functioning physical survival, of necessity, and no further; filthy, uncivilised, caked in sweat, and battery acid.
Starved of all the adornments of its predecessor; wholly absent of guitar, of piano, of string instruments and natural wooden intimacy, A U R O R A offers a defiant new world of fiercely synthetic shapes and galactic interference, pummelling skins and pure metals.
Performed by Ben Frost with Greg Fox (ex-Liturgy), Shahzad Ismaily and Thor Harris (SWANS) and largely written in Eastern DR Congo, A U R O R A aims directly, through its monolithic construction, at blinding luminescent alchemy; not with benign heavenly beauty but through decimating magnetic force.
This is no pristine vision of digital music; but an offering of interrupted future time, where emergency flares illuminate ruined nightclubs and the faith of the dancefloor rests in a diesel-powered generator spewing forth its own extinction, eating rancid fuel so loudly it threatens to overrun the very music it is powering.
And so, is the ongoing evolution of Frost’s music, conceived as equally the observer, as the catalyst in this music, and harbinger of the idea that so often we think of beauty when in fact we should be thinking of destruction. The result, mixed in Reykjavík with Bedroom Community head Valgeir Sigurðsson, is a machined musical surface, evolved and refined, yet irrevocably damaged.
Curiously, darkness is expelled to the muddy sedge and a confusing irradiant glow permeates A U R O R A, where everything once wounded, remains fiercely animate and luminescent with charged destruction.

Pianist Hutchings found herself quickly aligned along a new pantheon of neo-classical composers such as Peter Broderick, Dustin O' Halloran and Nils Frahm when her debut album Becalmed was released in 2010, prompting much critical praise worldwide, with MOJO Magazine declaring it a work that was ‘stirring, vigorous,[and] grandly melodic”. The album was listed in that magazine’s Top 5 Independent releases for that year and has continued to endure and impress since.
Working yet again with The Necks' longterm engineer Tim Whitten, on Night Sky Hutchings is subtly playful within the direct and emotive candour of her style, making for an open and surprising journey throughout. More lush in scope than Becalmed and augmented with harmonium, strings, percussion, woodwind and vocal ambience, Night Sky reveals Hutchings' compositional style flowering with more instrumentation and bolder intent. Balancing the beautiful fragility in her work with a deeper sense of urgency creates a striking charge to Night Sky - a compelling pulse that also encompasses a lightness of touch in parts making for an album of many shades set within Hutchings’ beguiling vision. The rarefied atmosphere of Night Sky confirms Hutchings’ standalone presence in the realm of modern composition.

Fever is the eighth studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, released on 1 October 2001 internationally by Parlophone. The album was later released in the United States on 26 February 2002 by Capitol Records and was Minogue's first album release in the region since her second studio album Enjoy Yourself (1989). Minogue worked with writers and producers such as Cathy Dennis, Rob Davis, Richard Stannard, Julian Gallagher, TommyD, Tom Nichols, Pascal Gabriel and others to create the disco and Europop-influenced dance-pop album. Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett will release her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit on March 24th through Mom + Pop Records.
The 11-track effort follows 2013’s excellent The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas. Recording took place at Melbourne’s Head Gap Studio with accompaniment from her backing band
Barnett says the album “follows me as a normal human with normal emotions. So there are great highs and great lows. They span everything in my life.”
