Formed in Malmö, Sweden by Marleen Nilsson and Anders Hansson, Death and Vanilla utilise vintage musical equipment such as vibraphone, organ, mellotron, tremolo guitar and moog, to emulate the sounds of 60s/70s soundtracks, library music, German Krautrock, French Ye-ye pop and 60s psych. They revel in the warmth of older analogue instruments to create a more organic sound, each loose wire and off-kilter noise adding to the rich atmosphere.
After a handful of successful releases including a debut EP in 2010, their self-titled LP in 2012 - which sold out on pre-order - and a beautifully designed 7" single, the experimental pop duo were invited to compose a live soundtrack for the classic horror film, Vampyr (1932), for the Lund Fantastisk Film festival in Lund. Now, newly signed to Fire, the band return with 'To Where The Wild Things Are.' Named after the Maurice Sendak children's book, the album is comprised of pop music with a wild, dreamy and experimental edge, celebrating imagination and the ability to travel to stranger recesses of the mind.
'Where the Wild Things Are' starts off with some of the most "pop" songs they've ever recorded, typified in the sweet and melodramatic "Arcana", and the classic pop inspired "Time Travel". Like Sendak's book of the same name, the album then proceeds into stranger and stranger territory, resulting in some of the most experimental material Death and Vanilla have produced, such as the six minute "Something Unknown You Need to Know" and the machine-like, surf-guitar track "The Hidden Reverse".
The band recorded the new album themselves in their rehearsal space, using just one microphone - a 70's Sennheiser - which they bought at a flea market for a tenner. It is this unconventional recording process that gives Death and Vanilla their unique personality; using a trial and error approach to recording has rewarded the album with a strangeness that would not have otherwise been achievable.
Creating deliciously enticing soundscapes, full of moody moogs, swirling melodies and breathless vocals, their influences on 'To Where the Wild Things Are' are apparent and diverse, ranging from Ennio Morricone to Scott Walker, Tom Dissevelt to Norman Whitfield, The Zombies to Sun Ra, and Bo Hansson to The BBC Radiophonic workshop.

Anna von Hausswolff’s third album, The Miraculous, due out on Friday, November 13, on Other Music Recording Co. (City Slang in UK/EU and Anna’s own imprint in her native Sweden), continues the classically trained vocalist and composer’s transition from the gorgeous chamber pop of her debut towards something darker. After taking up the church organ for her 2013 LPCeremony, this new record was recorded on one of Scandinavia’s largest pipe organs, at the concert hall Acusticum in Piteå, in Northern Sweden, with her band and long time producer/collaborator Filip Leyman. Heavier, darker and more unsettling than anything von Hausswolff has released before, The Miraculous draws on the singer’s background in avant-garde music as well as her love of black metal, balancing beauty with some real ballast. Of the new songs, von Hausswolff said:
“The main inspiration for this record comes from a book called Källan by Walter Ljungquist. It´s about kids on a spiritual journey, their search for something holy, the disappointment of not finding it, the joy of searching, and the importance of letting go of control. I read this book when I was out touring with Efterklang in 2013 and it made a major impact on me. It made me think of the most fascinating place I know. I started to ask myself, ‘why am I so fascinated by this place and why do I keep going back to it?’ When I was a kid my family told me tons of stories about this place. Scary things and fantastic things, both truth and lies. There was, and still is, this weird fusion between reality and fantasy there. Every time I go to there my mind gets really creative and starts to add new stories and images to the old ones. It´s a place of mystery and doubt. It´s highly attractive and very scary at the same time. If I were to search for a miracle, just like the kids in the book, this is the place I would start looking; The Miraculous is my name for that place.”

Adna knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a musician. During music lessons in secondary school and later in music highschool, Adna started to explore the sensitivity and fragile moments of music, and this influenced her own song writing and production.
After graduating from highschool, Adna decided to move to Berlin in early 2014. The young, Swedish singer and musician released her first album ‘Night’ in April 2014.
From her Berlin apartment Adna is working towards releasing her sophomore album titled ‘Run, Lucifer’, which will be released in spring 2015. On this album Adna combines acoustic sounds with electronic elements lead on by her powerful, yet delicate voice and the album as a whole has a fervent and grandiose sound. The titles of the 9 songs reveal that Adna will be inviting us into the most fragile, deep and melancholic corners of her heart.
The record was written and recorded while moving to Berlin, in Adna‘s bedroom. The decision to move came from the need of finding her place and giving the music an honest try-out, and “Run, Lucifer” is the result of that. Lust for Youth are a three-piece from Copenhagen made up of Hannes Norrvide, Malthe Fischer & Loke Rahbek. 2014’s acclaimed album, International, took the melancholic insomnia of their former releases out into the street and away from the domestic frustrations of a life in headphones. Suddenly, surrounded by bodies, and with a staccato heart, Balearic infatuations and capricious nights in crowded clubs set the mood for Norrvide’s pining sighs. International marked Lust For Youth’s new-found decadence with fully resolved charm and enhanced self-deprecation.
