Half-star bump up on rewatch.

An honestly fascinating follow-up to the precision of Thief, and it's too bad that we never got more supernatural/sci-fi from Mann after this because I'd love to see what else he's got in that dept.

There's an idea in my head that's been ruminating for a while now that I haven't found the time or've been able to put into words; an exploration of the Jewish experience as it relates to a physical place/space (the Keep in The Keep, the Van Buren Institute community center in The Brutalist, the idyllic home next to Auschwitz in Zone of Interest).

(Maybe there isn't anything there, but if there is and you're smarter/more capable than me (likely!) and want to take a crack at it, just give me thanks when you win an award for it.)

Outside of feeling a bit of the length at some points, there's much to like here. Lily-Rose gives an incredible and physical performance, and I could watch a whole other movie about the superstitions of the gypsy village.
That said, *The Witch* remains my favorite of the Eggersverse.

Beautifully shot and acted and, in a way, was a nice accidental pairing with *Eyes of Fire* for me, in so far as the way it dealt with beliefs and faith.
I felt terribly that one of the last things that poor girl should hear was the incessant mouth harp of her attacker.

I find the love ballad to be wonderful, so I'm glad it gets played about 8 times.
Also, the reaction the one guy has to his dick getting bitten off by a snake is the same way that F. Murray Abraham reacted to losing his son in *Surviving the Game*, so that's fun!
