The new Stax Classics series celebrates the iconic label's greatest stars, offering new liner notes, label discographies and 12 choice cuts from the artists' Stax catalog. This collection highlights the music of GRAMMY® and Academy Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer and actor Isaac Hayes. Hayes, who began his career as a songwriter and producer at Stax, co-writing such iconic hits as Sam & Dave's 'Soul Man' and 'Hold On! I'm Comin',' became a star in his own right with 1969's Hot Buttered Soul. The title, which featured Hayes' deep baritone vocals and signature sonic explorations, opened the door for a slew of groundbreaking titles, including Hayes' iconic, award-winning 1971 score for film Shaft, and his critically-acclaimed double album, Black Moses. This album spans Hayes' solo career, and includes such tracks as the Jimmy Webb cover 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix',
'Hyperbolicsyllabicsequedalymistic' and, of course, the 'Theme From Shaft.'

Phyllis Linda Hyman was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Hyman is best known for her music during the late 1970s through the early 1990s, some of her most notable songs were "You Know How to Love Me", "Living All Alone" and "Don't Wanna Change the World".

Royal Rappin's certainly looks great on paper -- it's the pairing of two of music's most loquacious and sexually geared acts, Millie Jackson and Isaac Hayes -- but despite all its potential, the album doesn't impress quite like it could have. A few years earlier, Hayes recorded a live double album with Dionne Warwick and the sparks were more than genuine. With Jackson and the declining Muscle Shoals sound though, it seems more like a terrible blind date that can't end soon enough. Part of the problem is that Hayes doesn't have any production duties and is basically dropped into a Millie Jackson album. There are a few good moments, however. "Sweet Music, Soft Lights and You" manages to capture a groove that complements their styles. Still, the pointless covers and underdone originals sink this like a stone. The slightly perked-up "You Needed Me" is weird and the disco-fied "Feels Like the First Time" is surreal. Although Hayes and Jackson's legend of gab preceded them, the chatter here is forced and annoying, especially on "If I Had My Way" and "If You Had Your Way." Unfortunately, Royal Rappin's captures the worst of two great soul artists.

It’s Donald Glover’s eye-popping soul riot. And like everything he's touched in 2016, his third Childish Gambino album is a slow-burning triumph. The robust hip-hop of previous records is parked and in its place arrives sweltering soul and mussed-up funk. Opener “Me and Your Mama” is a deep, exultant opus that makes plain Glover’s ambition, the exquisite “Redbone” sees him access a register (and vibe) that Prince would approve, while “California”—a sort of breezy calypso jam with a judicious use of wood whistle—captures the effervescent and completely intoxicating spirit of a very special record.

Lovers Live is the first live album (seventh overall) by the English group Sade. It was released in the United States on 5 February 2002 and in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2002 by Epic Records, and was recorded during one of the shows of their Lovers Live Tour in 2001. The recording was taken from two concerts, held respectively at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California, and at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California. The CD contains only thirteen tracks while the DVD is packed with twenty-two tracks plus special features.
Lovers Live debuted and peaked at number ten on the U.S. Billboard 200, and became Sade's first album to miss the top twenty of the UK Albums Chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America on 7 March 2002 with U.S. sales of 562,000 copies,[1] while the DVD was certified platinum on 30 January 2003 for sales in excess of 100,000 copies.
