@BananaSundae Yeah, I've been contemplating my relationship to my favorite (or former favorite) video games a lot in this last year or so. It can be hard to make sense of feelings, whether it's simply nostalgia or the game matching my taste that it tiself helped form, what exactly is good game design and how gameplay relates to other aspects of the game. It's fertile ground for introspection, more so than game analysis. I'll definitely give the idea of a new list more consideration, but I might end up just expanding the current list since a lot of the entries would be the same. Or maybe create a list of specifically the games that were rejected from the existing list on the basis of analysis. Will see.
@BananaSundae I'm really surprised at some choices here, as I never got the impression you loved some of these games so much when they came up in our past conversations. But this is also making me want to give a second chance to some games I, as you may know, intensely disliked on my previous attempts. Also, I love your approach of ignoring the objective quality of the game in favor of personal attachment. I often wonder if I should do the same with my list, where I kinda went for only the games that sastify both criteria.
@BananaSundae I didn't know that. It's probably because of the popularity of the show. This is like a piece of merchandise.

stopped playing Wolverine: Adamantium Rage 🌗🌑🌑🌑🌑
One of my earliest Sega games and upon revisit one of the worst I've ever played. The movement is probably the floatiest I've ever seen, it's impossible to stop when you want to. There's a massive delay input and your default attack hits below the first flying enemies unless you perform it two more times in a row. So not only is it hard to time it because of the delay, but you also have to time three attacks instead of one. I can't make it past even the first few enemies.
stopped playing The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
The choice of 8-bit graphics makes a lot of sense for indie devs, but I really don't understand the conscious decision to revert to Castlevania 2's controls and movement, when modern engines can do so much better out of the box. The inclusion of more modern moves then, like the slide, feels very anachronistic and jarring. Once you discover the slide, you never wanna walk again because of just how slow your character is in comparison. I think from Castlevania 4 onwards it's been pretty much universally agreed that the movement has improved and the combat has grown more varied and nuanced.
A lot of these Castlevania clones coming out these days feel like remixes of the old games. Just taking features from various games and mixing them together, instead of introducing anything new. I would rather just play Castlevania 2 for the retro experience or play a more modern one for the modern features.
@BananaSundae That's a great breakdown of the differences between DMC and Bayonetta. Something I didn't pay enough attention to when revisiting Bayonetta last year. But totally explains the disconnect I felt when playing it.
This video goes into way more detail on a lot of this: https://youtu.be/r9ANoVBildY?si=RGCqD1J5uWFVjxup
finished playing 恶搞之家 回归宇宙 Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I'm not the biggest Family Guy fan, but I found this game very enjoyable. For a casual shooter/platformer, it has some really nice physics and gunplay, and there's plenty of variety in enemies and challenges throughout the 5-hour campaign. Probably even more fun in the coop. One downside is it's not very funny, but to me just having nice gameplay in a colorful environment is enough for a good time.
