After selling over 40,000 records on two prior releases and touring nonstop over the past four years, New York's Just Surrender return with their first release on Razor & Tie, titled Phoenix. Singer Dan Simons comments, "A lot of bands don't spend the time establishing a real fan base... We're glad that we've put our time in, and look forward to the new record more than any other past release!" Produced by Lou Giordano (Plain White T's, Taking Back Sunday, etc.) with additional production by Ace Enders (formerly of The Early November), Phoenix finds the band creating a darker, heavier sound than on previous releases, although their hooky choruses and stick-in-your-head melodies are still in full effect. The album features 10 new songs as well as an acoustic bonus track.

NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor and his wife Mariqueen Maandig (ex-WEST INDIAN GIRL) have reportedly teamed up in a brand new project called HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS. Details are scarce at the moment but it appears that the group will release a self-titled six-song EP this summer.

Lovedrug is a rock and roll band from Alliance, Ohio. Their third album, The Sucker Punch Show, was released October 28, 2008.

Recorded at the $5.5M Red Bull Studios in Santa Monica, Sucker Punch delivers in spades on the big-budget hints inherent in much of the band’s previous work, providing gigantic tones that span from new heavy rockers to atmospheric art for which the band is known. This is the next generation of Lovedrug; a neo-melodic-grunge set with twice the mood and ten times the menace.

As the above line from lead single “Everyone Needs A Halo” suggests, Michael Shepard & Co. have a definitive outlook on this the third Lovedrug effort. “Everyone has a role in the sucker punch show, this is just my accounting of it,” states Shepard. “For me, my road, I’m just caring less and less about self screening and caring more and more about letting people know exactly how I feel.” Thus opening track “Let It All Out” is both warning and manifesto – an admonition of uninhibited statements to follow. “Sucker Punch is about letting go of inhibitions and not allowing your brain to filter the emotions that come naturally,” says bassist Thomas Bragg.

It’s been four years and a few lineup changes since PAUCITY’s Friction Records debut An Untitled Album, but their sophomore effort DEER BIRD BEAR SHIP has been well worth the wait. The new set finds the band back as it started, with the original musicians upping the ante on composition and craft in instrumental, experimental music. Recorded in early 2009 at the White Lodge in Wayland, MI, Deer Bird Bear Ship was mastered by Al McAvoy and documents the next stage in PAUCITY.
Building on the framework set by post-rock innovators Mogwai, Tortoise and Don Caballero, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based foursome continues to extend the possibilities of vocal-less rock music, offering equal nods to their previously named forbearers, as well as the sounds of Miles Davis’ electric outings; electronic music pioneers Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin; post-hardcore titans Isis and Envy; and the atmospheric work of alt-rock mainstays Radiohead and The Cure.
Grand Rapids, MI four-piece PAUCITY are set to release 44.4 minutes of dynamic experimental instrumentals with their new album DEER BIRD BEAR SHIP. Building on the framework set by post-rock innovators including Mogwai, Tortoise and Don Caballero, the band--Jared Wekenman (guitar), Kertis Lytle (bass, keys), Sam Hutchinson (drums) and Ric Carroll (keys)--layer bristling guitar, warm synths, airy keys, churning bass and complex rhythms with a true sense of purpose and aural space on their sophomore album, due September 4 from Friction Records. In addition to availability via CD and digital formats, the album will be released on pink vinyl and include an MP3 code for a digital download of the set.
PAUCITY continues to extend the possibilities of vocal-less rock music, offering equal nods to their previously named forbearers, as well as the sounds of Miles Davis’ electric outings; electronic music pioneers Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin; post-hardcore titans Isis and Envy; and the atmospheric work of alt-rock mainstays Radiohead and The Cure. However, guitarist Wekenman is quick to point out that “we are very careful not to copy our peers and predecessors who have influenced us so heavily. We will abandon any musical ideas that seem too familiar."
DEER BIRD BEAR SHIP is a demonstration in variety for the purpose of musical advancement--from the lyrical, pentatonic riff that leads “The Cradle”; to the creeping guitar squawks and wah-filtered synth lines of “Cowboys & Arabs”; to the sublimated drum rolls of “Twice the Pumpkin”--marking a step forward for the band from their “intensely crafted…” (Synthesis.net) 2005 debut LP An Untitled Album. Recorded in early 2009 at the White Lodge in Wayland, MI, DEER BIRD BEAR SHIP was produced by the band and mastered by Al McAvoy.
Describing the band’s intensive writing and recoding process, Wekenman says: "When Paucity writes music, one member will present a musical idea along with a story of the series of experiences that inspired the concept. We then record ourselves jamming on that idea for several hours and separately listen to the recorded jam, picking out the spontaneous ideas that stand out to us.” He continues: “After discussing our thoughts on the idea, we jam again but this time, we develop the idea in an agreed upon direction. Over the course of months, we repeat this process, slowly molding the original idea into a carefully crafted, emotional narrative."
"We strive to create subtleties in our tones to express our emotions especially because we don't have a singer to put our feelings into words,” adds drummer Hutchinson. “In a particular song, we can't explicitly tell you why we’re frustrated, elated or amorous, but we can show you just what we’re feeling through the music and hope that the listener will connect to that feeling."
While the band takes their music seriously, their lighter side shines through when discussing the album title. DEER BIRD BEAR SHIP started as a joke between the band members, "referring to the commonality of certain animal names in indie band names and album titles these days,” notes keyboardist Carroll. “Over time, we warmed to the name."

The songs here reflect the mood of the band & focus particularly on failed relationships, alcoholism & the yearning for that perfect imaginary soul mate. While the faster songs like 'Shyness,' 'One Night With You' and 'The Walk' are clearly aimed at the French dance floors, there are plenty of downtempo songs here too. 'Never Known Love' and 'So Clear' fit somewhere in the spectrum of Slowdive or The Cocteau Twins. After following the band through the highs of their nighttime adventures, the album closes with the very intimate ballad 'Forget Me Not' and we are left realizing what goes up, must come down.

Founded in Medan, North Sumatra September 2003 from the ashes of the bands such as The Wardoyo (Dandy Angga), Kolam Renang (Boby) and two other players (Citra and Opin). They also got help from Fandhy (at this time he stil the additional player).Because of the same musical direction they choose to formed a band that could play dreamy and powerful music. From the influences of Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, Malory, My Bloody Valentine and Sigur Ros they made their first song called Like A Ghost. Along the way the band lost their member Citra and Fandhy, he joined 70’s Pop. The band did not make any progress for months because they didn’t find the right drummer to fill the position. After their both return to Medan, they join Korine Conception again and until now the member still have not change. The band did not have a lot of chance to perform in Medan Scene because of the music may sound weird for the casual ears in Medan. Thank God, they found Huria! Records to support them. They gave their songs called “The Moon With The Melody” and this song appear in compilation “Let’s Push Things Forward” by Huria! Records and released in February 2006. This was their first single, amazingly this song got a lot of airplay in local radio. In May 2007 they song “ Like A Ghost’” made it in Traxound2 (A compilation from Trax magazine), so their song could hear in whole country (Indonesia) because this magazine sold nationally.

The Half Open Sky Gives Us Hope is the creation of one man and his computer in his South East London flat.
