The resurgence of indie folk music is apparent in the last 5 years with an array of chemistry-filled bands like Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zeros, Of Monster and Men, Mumford & Sons among many others. While talent comes in many forms there is still a separation between the production quality of rising independent artists. At its core, folk music remains one of the most genuine sounding genres in music. Far from the melodramatic sibling, Country music, folk is about allowing the simplicity of the instrumentation fill the song with harmony and graze. However, not recorded or produced properly, these instruments are often shadowed by noise and echo.
The beauty and perhaps the most inspiring quality about Wake Owl‘s Wild Country EP is its impeccable and delicate recording. Every single instrument used, brings forward the warmth and charisma of each guitar pluck, percussion and of course, the longing vocals of singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron. Wake Owl has effortlessly awaken (pun intended) the energy behind my unquestionable admiration for the folk genre and delivered unique melodies wonderfully wrapped around the familiarity of heart-felt themes about love gained and love lost.
The most ironic part of Wake Owl story is Colyn’s history. Born and raised in southern California the aspiring musical poet was into “rhyme stuff/hip hop” explaining, “I wrote rap basically. I used to go around the school ground rapping my verses to whoever would listen. Then about seven years ago I picked up a guitar and taught myself basic stuff and immediately began writing songs.” It was this very event combined with travelling to different farms throughout the world, trained in organic agriculture, that solidified his passion for music writing.
After much experimentation and reflection, his debut release Wild Country EP was born. A collection of five songs that harvest raw, genuine emotions of hope.

Telekinesis is both a band and a person. Now a grizzled and wizened 26 year old, Michael Benjamin Lerner has recorded his third album, Dormarion. The record is, in ways both practical and profound, the sound of a man figuring out exactly who he is. Also, it’s a total fucking hoot. Lerner originally intended to record the album completely on his own. Instead, he made the record in two weeks with Spoon drummer Jim Eno in his Austin, TX studio, Public Hi-Fi. On Dormarion Lane, to be specific. “It’s a beautiful-sounding word, and if you Google it, nothing but this one tiny street comes up,” says Lerner. “No origin, no description. I can’t tell you what the word means. It’s like something from Lost.”

'We would love for this music to make our fans feeeeel something, for it to stir some sh*t up inside of them, whatever that may be,' says singer Karen O. 'SO much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off. I hope others can climb up it too; we're excited to share the good vibes.'
The band, whose members were once lovingly labeled by Rolling Stone as the 'goth, the nerd and the slut' have recorded three studio albums: All 3 albums were nominated for a GRAMMY award for Best Alternative Music Album. Their third studio album, 'It's Blitz!', was named the second best album of the year by NME magazine, It's Blitz! was named as the second best album of 2009 by Spin Magazine and third best of 2009 by NME along with the single 'Zero' from the album listed as the best track of the year by both. Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? is the eighth album by American indie pop band Of Montreal, released on January 23, 2007. The album was written, performed, and recorded by Kevin Barnes, with assistance from friends and family: prominent Elephant Six members Bryan Poole, Jamey Huggins and Heather McIntosh, as well as Barnes' wife Nina Twin, and daughter Alabee Blonde. Credits also feature Georgie Fruit, a glam rock alter ego of Barnes.

Trouble Will Find Me is The National s highly anticipated sixth album. Formed in 1999, the Ohio-raised, Brooklyn- based band consists of vocalist Matt Berninger fronting two pairs of brothers: Aaron (guitar, bass, piano) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), and Scott (bass, guitar) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). The band s previous 4AD release, High Violet (May 2010), was met with critical acclaim.

The White Stripes will release a live album titled 'Nine Miles From The White City', it has been confirmed.
The release will come through Jack White's Third Man Records Vault subscription service and will be released as a double vinyl LP featuring 26 songs. Recorded at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom in 2003, the tracklisting includes fan favourites such as 'Hotel Yorba' and 'Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground' as well as a number of cover versions of songs by Bob Dylan and Captain Beefheart.
The release celebrates 10 years since the release of The White Stripes album 'Elephant' in 2003 and will come with a 7" featuring demos of the Elephant tracks 'I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart' and 'Little Acorns' as well as photos of the recording sessions for the album taken by David Swanson.
