Fade to Grey – The Singles Collection is a 1983 compilation album by the British synthpop group Visage. Released as a stop-gap between studio albums whilst the band was experiencing contractual difficulties, the compilation includes all seven of the Visage singles released up to that point (five of them UK Top 40 hits), as well as three non-single tracks. The album reached #38 on the UK Album Chart and was certified Gold by the BPI based on pre-release sales to shops. A limited number of copies of the vinyl album were issued with a free 7" vinyl picture disc of the "Pleasure Boys" single (1982), whereas the cassette version of the album featured remixes of each of the tracks as well as a bonus track, "Der Amboss" (a German language version of "The Anvil").

The album was re-released a decade later as Fade to Grey - The Best of Visage with a similar cover and track listing but with the inclusion of two tracks not featured on the original release: "Love Glove" (one of Visage's last singles from 1984) and the Bassheads/Andy Stevenson remix of "Fade to Grey", which became a minor top 40 hit again in 1993. The only single not included on this compilation was "Beat Boy", the band's final single from 1984.

Being released by the iconic legendary label 4AD, Chemical Chords is a collection of purposefully short, dense, fast pop songs, according to Gane, brimming with Motown-like drums, O'Hagan's finest baroque-pop brass and string arrangements and etched with some of Sadier's most eloquent, mellifluous vocal performances to date, it is, nonetheless, classic Stereolab; like all their best work, a perfect equipoise between an implausibly cool past and a shamelessly exotic future. The eleventh album in an illustrious career, Chemical Chords began life in early-2007 when Tim Gane started messing with a series of about seventy tiny drum loops on top of improvised chord sequences using piano and vibraphone. Building them up from there later slowing the tracks down or speeding them up a totally new way of doing songs for us With typical prolificacy, the band laboured over the summer at their studio, Instant Zero (in Bordeaux, France), helping transform these blueprints into 32 luminous new songs, with keyboardist/technician Joe Watson manning the mixing desk. Half the new repertoire was selected for this album, which, for all the breathless spontaneity of its invention, is arguably the band's tautest, most highly focused work this century.

2004年发行的《Com Lag》其实并非是Radiohead的新作,它是乐队之前发行的一些单曲加演唱会的集成版本,大部分曲目均来自《2+2=5》、《There There》、《Go to Sleep》三张EP,很多都属于专辑的“遗珠”式作品。《2+2=5》对于Radiohead迷来说肯定不会陌生,它也是乐队上一张专辑主打作品之一,不过《Com Lag》里收录的是现场版本,当夹杂着歌迷狂喊的“You have not been paying attention”传来说,肯定会让你有种身临其境的感觉。《Remyxomatosis》里把爵士鼓完全地电子化了,不过在Thom Yorke断续的演唱中,Bepop那种绝对的自由不见了,取而代之的是一种难言的压抑和如同困兽般的挣扎。《Skttrbrian》由Four Tet作了混音处理,在同样的电子爵士节拍的引导中洒上了风铃、收音机的换台声、小号、八音盒、神经质的吉它和凄美的歌声,在动与静之间、在唯美与病态之间演绎出一段异化的童话。而更趋向传统的《I Will》,我想则是任何一位歌迷都会喜欢的歌曲,舒缓的旋律,颓废的演唱,感性的声部粘贴,这就是英伦音乐最能打动人的地方。《Fog》也是选自现场版本,简简单单的钢琴伴奏,Thom Yorke深情款款的演唱,最适合在夜里聆听,既像是人与钢琴的对话,也像是现在和过去的对话,更像是经历超时空与一场爱情的对话,“Good Night,Everybody”。有钢琴伴奏自然也不能少了吉它伴奏,当然《Gagging Order》里可能少了你要听的Solo,不过没关系,听歌一样会让你着迷,也许你还会想,吉它手兴奋了怎么办,你再仔细听听,他会用他的拇指击打4、5、6弦告诉你,他有些激动了。《I Am a Wicked Child》一听它的节奏,就会让你感受到英国人的冷幽默技巧,跳舞的不要,颓废的拿来,跟着布鲁斯口琴你也将你的头温柔地摆动起来吧!

Magazine's music continues to be an influence in modern music today. While having roots in the punk and new-wave movements, Magazine combined elements of avant-garde and pop. Radiohead in particular draws on the lyrical style of the group, and have performed "Shot By Both Sides" in concert. What's more, Radiohead's 1995 single "Just", with its ascending guitar hook, bears a passing resemblance to "Shot By Both Sides". Former Smiths singer Morrissey, a fan and acquaintance of Devoto's, covered "A Song From Under The Floorboards" as a B-side to his 2006 single "The Youngest Was the Most Loved". "Floorboards" was covered by My Friend The Chocolate Cake on their 1994 album Brood. Half Man Half Biscuit have performed live covers of a number of Magazine songs. "The Light Pours Out Of Me", from the album Real Life, has been covered by both Peter Murphy and Ministry. Swedish punk band No Fun At All did a cover of "Shot By Both Sides" on their record "And Now For Something Completely Different". Devoto co-wrote two songs with Mansun, "Everyone Must Win" and "Railings", contributing vocals to the latter, and the band later covered "Shot By Both Sides" for John Peel.

While the two years between Dots and Loops and Cobra resulted in stagnation, the two years separating Cobra and Sound-Dust find Stereolab deliberately recharging their creative juices, delving deeper into avant-garde composition and '60s swing pop in equal measures. As the album opens with the minimal "Black Ants in Sound-Dust," it's evident that the group has restructured and pushed forward, even if it means that they're adhering to their time-honored tradition of expanding their trademark sound with new arrangements and influences. Frankly, after the stagnation of Cobra, any movement forward is welcome, and initially the record seems like a bold move forward — a Stereolab instrumental album where the arrangements and production take the proper forefront, since every recording since Amorphous Body Center has illustrated that that's the group's real strength. Then, "Captain EasyChord" kicks in with a familiar, albeit catchy, mid-tempo lounge groove and Laetitia Sadier's singsong vocals, and the album is immediately anchored in overly familiar territory. And that's the biggest problem with Sound-Dust — by this point the group's melodies, singalong choruses, and Marxist platitudes no longer sound fresh, they often sound like a straightjacket, preventing the group from pushing forward into new territory. After all, if it's taken on a pure sonic level, Sound-Dust can often be quite pleasing and intriguing, especially the sophisticated horn and flute arrangements, which producer Jim O'Rourke makes lushly alluring. It's hard not to wish that the entire record was constructed simply of instrumentals of this sort, since that's when Stereolab sounds fully recharged and gorgeous. As it stands, the album is held back by their insistence on simple songs and simple vocals that keep the record earthbound and solely the province of the already converted.
