"This book reconstructs what the earliest grammars might have been and shows how they could have led to the languages of modern humankind. "Like other biological phenomena, language cannot be fully understood without reference to its evolution, whether proven or hypothesized," wrote Talmy Givon in 2002. As the languages spoken 8,000 years ago were typologically much the same as they are today and as no direct evidence exists for languages before then, evolutionary linguists are at a disadvantage compared to their counterparts in biology. Bernd Heine and Tania Kuteva seek to overcome this obstacle by combining grammaticalization theory, one of the main methods of historical linguistics, with work in animal communication and human evolution. The questions they address include: do the modern languages derive from one ancestral language or from more than one? What was the structure of language like when it first evolved? Ever since the origins of both linguistics and evolutionary biology in the 19th century, scholars have noted the similarity between biological evolution and language change. Yet until recently neither linguists nor biologists have developed a model of evolution to apply across the two fields. Explaining Language Change presents the first integrated theory of all aspects of language change which builds on the pioneering ideas of Richard Dawkins and David Hull in biology and philosophy of science. 《南岛分类研究》从诸地区相近南岛语的比较开始，区分南岛语不同历史时期的创新，在不同语支构拟的基础上把南岛语划归泰雅—赛夏语、邹—卑南语、美拉—密克罗尼西亚和马来—他加洛语四个语族。
台湾省以外的所有南岛语都来自台湾的假设，与考古和人类体质学的研究得出的结论相左。语言本身也在叙述着自己的历史，解读往往不同。

本论文集为北京大学汉语语言学研究中心主持的教育部文科研究基地2005年度重大项目《语言接触与汉译佛典语法比较研究——以梵汉对勘为基础》（05JJD740177）研究成果的汇集。包括论文15篇，附录2篇。该论文集的作者为老中青结合，成果颇丰。不仅有在汉译佛经研究领域成就斐然的老学者的论文，也有近年来佛经语法研究领域中年骨干的成果。

《李方桂全集2:侗台语论文集》内容简介：研究台语的学者差不多都在国内，经过戴庆厦、孙宏开两位先生的推荐，我们请了欧阳觉亚、罗美珍、李锦芳、薄文泽、周国炎、江荻六位专家从事翻译。收到译文之后由我们两人对照原文分别校读一遍，有问题再跟原译者商讨改订。另外把王均及李钊祥两位先生原来在别处发表的两篇译文也收在一起，就成了目前的样子。
校读的过程中产生许多困难，因为翻译不是成于一人之手，许多英文名词的翻译不尽相同，参考文献的译法也互有差异。虽然最后校读时尽量求其一致，恐怕难免还有漏网之鱼。为了尊重李先生的用法，原来中文的文章完全照录，有些名词跟译者所用也不一致。所幸即使有一点不同，对了解李先生原文的意思应无问题。

《汉语历史音韵学》由上海教育出版社出版

特拉斯克编著的《历史与比较语言学词典》收入历史语言学术语近2400条，覆盖了历史语言学的各个方面。绝大多数词条除了清楚准确的定义外，还提供真实的语言学例证、相关的历史和理论背景以及适当的参考文献。关于本书的特色，书后的封底列有六个方面：即（1）历史语言学的第一本词典，（2）对历史语言学知识体系的全面覆盖，（3）囊括传统和当代术语，（4）提供所释术语的语言学例证，（5）安排大量相关词条的互见参照，（6）包含数以百计的原始文献的参考书目。不过在笔者看来，本书最大的特色是充分吸收了历史语言学的新成果。众所周知，历史语言学进入20世纪以后：获得了长足的发展，特别是近30年来，语言变异和演变的社会语言学研究（语言变异研究和语言接触研究）以及功能主义语言学流派（语言类型学、认知语言学、语法化、篇章语言学以及语用学）的迅速发展使历史语言学的理念、方法和视角发生了重大变革。本书的相关词条对这些新成果都有比较全面的反映。

本书收集的论文是2003年8月在上海师范大学召开的“汉语方言历史层次及吴、闽、客、赣方言历史层次研究工作小组学术研讨会”和2004年8月在上海复旦大学召开的“首届历史层次国际研讨会”的成果。这些论文共分两部分：第一部分偏重历史层次的理论问题，作比较一般性的探讨；第二部分偏重个别方言中的历史层次问题，直接讨论有关层次的种种关系。
