本书是我国第一部从整体上论述斯拉夫语的专著。绪论中介绍古代斯拉夫人及其语言、斯拉夫语族在印欧语系中的地位、斯拉夫文字的起源和现代斯拉夫语所使用的两种字母。第一、二章概述原始斯拉夫语和古斯拉夫语，阐明重要语言现象的来龙去脉。然后以11章篇幅描述现代斯拉夫诸语言——俄语、乌兰克语、白俄罗斯语、保加利亚语、马其顿语、塞尔维亚—克罗地亚语、斯洛文尼亚语、捷克语、斯洛伐克语、波兰语、索布语以及波拉巴语；每章分为历史背景、文字、语音、语法、方言和样品六部分。书后附有斯拉夫语基本词汇对照表和两段文字样品对照。

《汉语口语语法》内容简介：我的A Grammar of Spoken Chinese一书(中文名《中国话的文法》）本来是写了给外国人研究中国话用的。如果要翻译了给中国人用，一定应该有好多增减的地方。现在真巧商务印书馆要出这《汉语口语语法》的时候碰到语言学专家吕叔湘先生对这事热心，把应该对中国人说的话都准确的译了，把不必对中国人说的话跟例子都删去了。这简直是“正中下怀，不敢请尔!”吕先生来信向我征求同意，我不但是乐意的同意，并且感谢的很。

《中国的语言》收录了我国56个民族使用的129种语言，基本反映了中国各族人民使用的语言状况。全书共分七编：第一编为导论，简要介绍中国语言调查的成就，讨论中国语言的调查方法、谱系分类、语言和方言的区分、类型学特征、研究方法论，书面语的体系和类型等问题。从第二编起，按照语系（及其语族）的顺序，分别介绍了汉藏语系、阿尔泰语系、南亚语系、南岛语系、印欧语系、混合语等129种具体语言的特点，主要内容包括：语言的分布、使用人口、使用状况、语言系属；语言的语音、语法、词汇特点；语言的方言情况，包括分布、使用人口、差异、特点；语言的书面形式及特点；语言的简要研究情况以及500字左右的英文提要。

《俞敏语言学论文集》即是他有关语言学论文的结集。全书共分三大部分，书后并附其论著目录。其中第一部分的文章多与汉藏语及相关问题的研究有关，如著名的《汉藏同源字谱稿》、《汉藏虚字比较研究》等。俞敏是我国著名的语言学家，在汉藏语比较研究方面造诣颇深。

古代语言的构拟常常是支离破碎的，要掌握其系统和组合结构，就只有依靠它的文字和文献。张铁山的著作根据残存的古代文献，研究古代回鹘语的语音系统、词汇构成和语法结构，还讨论到古代回鹘语有没有元音e，存在不存在长元音音位，这些都是饶有趣味又是难度很大的问题。首先是文字和文献的释读有难度，其次是语音和词形变化的考证有难度，第三是词汇构成的分析有难度。虽然前人已经做了大量的工作，但仍存在很多难点和疑点。
