3 years is a long time in dance music… Time and space can appear to move that much faster still if you’ve spent it crusading the cause of Pure Trance, reclaiming your place as one of the world’s hottest 100 DJs in the process. It’s exactly that interval since Electronic Architecture – Solarstone’s much praised, IDMA-nominated, boundary breaking music-vs-art project - series received its second (or ²Squared) edition.
With Pure Trance catalysing club floors globally, Solarstone now picks up the Electronic Architecture story with this, its extraordinary trilogy-completing outing. The release, now boosted into a triangulation of three mixes, provides the long-awaited bridge back into ‘EA’s standalone dominion. Containing music from returning Architects, it also features many debutante engineers - subjects of the influence of the first two albums audio and imagery. With mix#1’s tone, tempo and technique tracking the first album’s progressive/trance compression, the second finds Solarstone integrating Pure Trance motifs into ‘EA’s sonic ethic. Solarstone is an artist who musically always has something fresh to ‘say’. Underlining that, with its third disc he becomes the first headlining DJ to shine a light on a new, audibly emerging electronic music subculture.
‘Electronic Architecture³’ features new audio from respected names like 16 Bit Lolitas, Basil O’Glue, Orkidea and – naturally – the man himself. It also includes exclusively made remixes of tracks that were origin influences for the series as well as inspired fold-returns for artists like the immortal Salt Tank. For this edition, alumni names from the first two releases are also back on EA’s campus. In the mix comes brand new music from returnee Architects inc. Nick Stoynoff, Konektiv, Alucard, and the album also mix-exhibits work from a completely new class of sound shapers & designers.

#Mix1 picks up precisely where the '²Squared’ edition left off. Harmonically mixing with an unprecedented seamlessness, Richard lays down its foundations. Tracking trance and progressive’s endlessly enthralling margin, the epic ‘Beat Organ’ from 16 Bit Lolitas’ and Soarsweep’s melodic ‘Thistle’ collectively presage the latest from Basil O’Glue. Possibly one of the ‘EA’ school’s most notable ‘graduates’, he wows with the astronomically minded sonics of ‘Seven Sages’. To the mix Solarstone & Orkidea then deliver the third in their sub-series of ‘Slowmotion’ releases, which dovetails into Guy J deep, relentless rework of AMbassador ’99 classic ‘The Fade’. Dawning with the incredible ‘EA³’ Reconstruction of Forerunners’ 2007 ‘Lifecycle’, its opening minutes also deliver Allende’s much-sought remix of Salt Tank’s hiatus-ending ‘Phoenix’. With Pure Trance running through its veins, the mix’s arteries are on fire with tracks like The Thrillseekers upcoming ‘This Is All We Have’, the distorted blaze of Eco’s ‘One Day’, the deliciously moody contrast of Orkidea’s ‘Purity’ and Solarstone’s own Retouch mix of summer-burst ‘4Ever’.
#Mix3 brings something completely new to the ‘EA’s DNA, showcasing trance & progressive music currently being cultivated by a small but dedicated label/studio axis. It’s the Electronic Architecture sound-spectra you know, but at tempos never previously recorded. Bringing the final shapes, shards and sounds to ‘EA³’, the mix includes album-exclusive reworks of many of the its crop, inc. O'Glue’s ‘Seven Sages’, Barone’s ‘Metal Jaws’, Rischaad’s ‘Razorbeam’ and others. It also features ‘Awakening’ from Winkee (one of the subculture’s early propagators), the oceanic dive of Alexey Muravyev’s ‘Evening Surf’ and ‘Dedication, Loyalty’ from modern-classical composer Nils Frahm. So here we are - three years later, holding a CD, a real physical CD (which is a luxury in these digital media dominated times) - the debut album of Nigel Good called Nothing Out Here on a Silk Music label. For an artist to reach a point of an album release usually means a closure of one chapter and a beginning of a new era. I find debut albums the hardest to judge as there is no firm reference point. However Nothing Out Here stands out already after the first full listen - there is a well defined atmosphere, with an aftertaste if I may put it this way. Pardon the cliche, but it indeed leaves the feeling of a summer, the careless moments, the vintage take on simple but priceless memories.

What was once Lost is now found... After an extended timeout, lasting more than a half-decade, Ben Lost has returned to the director's chair of Lost Language. One of trance & progressive's most eminent imprints, over its near 15-year label lifetime it has been the springboard for the careers of an axiomatic list of famed producers. To mark his retaking of its A&R reins, and a new waypoint in the label's history, he's mixed the fifth episode of its hallowed 'Exhibition' mix-series.

Ben launched the 'Exhibition' line during the label's early millennial era, quickly helming it into a singular position in the mix collections of trance and prog fans alike. Now, almost a decade after he mixed his last one, the prodigal one's returned to expo the ongoing development of Lost's musical language. The album features tracks and mixes from array of new talent. In an amongst its progressive foothills, trance peaks and Goan inclines are tracks and remixes from Manmachine, Ovnimoon, Superpsychics, Cosmithex and Sonic Entity, as well as more seasoned sound shapers like Guy J, Activa and Neptune Project. Ben has tasked many of them with remixes of the label's vastly respected back-catalogue, with new directions & tangents lent to tracks by Space Manoeuvres, Miro, Barraka, Accadia and C.M.

Musically, Ben's latest exhibit opens in the blackly chromatic night-time thrall of 'Late Reflections', the latest from Canada's fast-emerging Bernie Allen. Setting its stage with a progressive depth, it segues into a new take on Space Manoeuvres' evergreen 'Stage One' courtesy of Bedrock's Guy J. Hot on its heels comes a tribally spin on Barraka's 'Song To The Siren', with Holland's Jaap Ligthart immersing his rework in its ocean deep vocal.
Mixing fluidly, seamlessly & harmonically, he continues to churn the progressive waters deep with Hazem Beltagui's glacier cool treatment of Amir Abbasi's 'Angelus Sine Sensu' and Mindwave's stunning Dub of Miro's 'Paradise'.
As it moves out of its overture, the mix makes its first upwards gear shift. Underground legend Taucher gets acidic on an astonishing reboot of DJ Orion & J Shore 'Brotherhood'. Chile's Ovnimoon meanwhile deepens the LFO on Miro's 'By Your Side', synthesizing its hypnotizing vocals with trance-noir tones.
'Exhibition V's midpoint sees it open itself up to a hotbed of the label's new Goa trance talent. The ballistic brio of Freesoup's 303-powered 'We Who Have', the quake-inducing bass of 'Where's Cynthia', Sonic Entity's masterful shakedown of Filteria's 'Perpetually Delayed Voyage' and their own strobelite symphony 'Genome Evolution' each take their turn to charge the mix.
Lifting towards its finale, Ben angles in the third edge of Lost Language's new triangulation. On their Third Eye Remix, Neptune Project recast Accadia's classic 'Blind Visions' as a string-swelling, Everest-like euphoric creation. Activa meanwhile rules just as upliftingly over C.M.'s epic 'Dream Universe'.
Across the progressive, euphoric, melodic and Goa trance strata, the album showcases the label's onward vision.

Earlier this year, the group performed some of their best-loved songs acoustically with a 12-piece band, across three sold out shows at London's legendary Porchester Hall. The response from fans was overwhelming and led to two sold-out nights at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles in October, described by Billboard Magazine as one of the finest and more memorable shows in EDM history.
The acoustic project is a reconnection with the musicians that we were before we met, said Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness. The songs have been on an interesting journey to get here because we tend to write in a fairly acoustic way anyway. We don't just stick a bit of vocal over a dance track - that's not how we work. We try to start with a song and it's usually only later down the line that we take certain elements from that song and progress them into a more dancefloor-friendly version.
With Above & Beyond Acoustic, the group are putting aside their CDJs and lighting rigs to showcase their deeply-rooted musicianship and classical training. A band first and foremost,Above & Beyond are songwriters as much as they are DJs. Working with three singers, a string quartet, harpist, drummer and bassist, Above & Beyond are pushing the boundaries of EDM. Tony McGuinness sings and plays guitar, mandolin and ukulele, Paavo Siljamäki plays the grand piano and cello, and Jono Grant plays the Rhodes piano, guitar and vibraphone.

There are not too many artists who can claim to have a significant influence on the dance scene today - the sheer volume of output from countless producers has made it that much more difficult. Andre Tanneberger aka ATB has been doing his own thing for some 15 years now, beyond the constraints of trends and fashions. He may not have a secret formula, but he certainly is one of those artists who defies categorization.
He draws on his worldwide tours as inspiration for new tracks, his music is the language he uses to communicate and stay in contact with his fans around the globe. Contact is the word of the moment, a fitting title for what is ATB’s ninth studio album - CONTACT will be released on the Kontor Records label on 24th January 2014.
"CONTACT is a musical collection of my experiences and travels from roughly the last three years, since my last album DISTANT EARTH," Andre Tanneberger explains. "I've covered a lot of miles again in this phase, sought out contact with fantastic, inspiring people, which made the choice of album title almost inevitable. It's the contact, the interaction with the fans which makes my music what it is, especially when it comes to performing. It doesn't matter whether I'm playing a club gig or a festival, it is really important for me to get close to my crowd and engage with the audience directly. It's an exchange of emotions and energy, they feel what I feel, I feel what they feel. They are an integral element in what I do and what I have now created in album form."
Tradtional songwriting is a highly valued part of the process for Andre. Not for him a simple selection of sound structures, synths and noise, but personal music, created in collaboration with other singers and songwriters, committed to paper and then developed meticulously with typical ATB sounds.
"Sadly, electronic music often has a tendency to sound too impersonal, too rational. Hard and danceable, that's all. For me, I want to convey emotions, so I consciously begin with the tradtional songwriting process, in fact it is crucial."

Silk Royal is overjoyed to present Schodt's "Darkness | Light", the veteran Danish phenom's first full-length artist album. A dear friend and original core artist of Silk Music since the label's inception, Schodt continues to broaden his artistic range and transcend genre boundaries between House, Progressive, Trance, and Breaks. An artist that has always strived to incorporate new styles and techniques in his work, Schodt continues to dazzle fans with the diversity of his sound, while never failing to infuse each composition with lush atmospheres, radiant melodies, and inspiring arrangements. Schodt's 10-track album is Silk Royal's most ambitious and eagerly anticipated artist release to date. The "vintage" opener "You're Brighter Than The Sun" affirms that Schodt is still a master craftsman of uplifting soundscapes, soaring above feel-good grooves.
