In 2013, the Canadian musical-performance art project Majical Cloudz released Impersonator via touchstone indie label Matador, garnering praise from tastemaker and mainstream media as one of the year's best and most notable albums. Since then, principle writer and vocalist Devon Welsh has been fastidiously crafting the band's second studio album, while simultaneously touring the world with producer Matthew Otto. Today, Majical Cloudz announce their anticipated sophomore LP, Are You Alone?, arriving in-stores and online around the world on October 16th.
Building off a solidly-laid visual and sonic foundation, the conceptual narrative remains - simple yet emotionally forthcoming lyrics showcasing raw vulnerability, backed by sparse instrumentation and minimalist production. Welsh delivers melancholic but melody driven vocals echoing off elemental tones, praising love and friendship, commiserating over heartbreak and sadness. Written and recorded between Montreal and Detroit, Are You Alone? features drum, viola and piano support from Canadian composition genius Owen Pallett, known for his work with Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Death from Above 1979, and Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys. Coming as no surprise, Welsh and Otto have created another soulful novella, continuing to contribute to the evolution of sound in pop, indie, and electronic music.
Majical Cloudz first began gaining larger recognition around their Turns Turns Turns EP in 2012 and soon after signed to Matador. In addition to being nominated for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize, Impersonator received critical praise from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Stereogum, VICE, Flavorwire, Earmilk and more. In 2014 the duo was recruited by teenage pop phenom Lorde as the opening act for her North American tour, taking their intimate stage setup to theaters across the continent. Their incredible conceptual live performance - somber in tone with moments of silliness; Pagliacci-esqe - gained notoriety from Billboard, Grantland, and Pitchfork and was described by Lorde as “one of the most simple and moving things I have seen, ever”. Figuring out her dreams:
Billie: “Every song on the album is something that happens when you’re asleep—sleep paralysis, night terrors, nightmares, lucid dreams. All things that don't have an explanation. Absolutely nobody knows. I've always had really bad night terrors and sleep paralysis, and all my dreams are lucid, so I can control them—I know that I'm dreaming when I'm dreaming. Sometimes the thing from my dream happens the next day and it's so weird. The album isn’t me saying, 'I dreamed that'—it’s the feeling.”
Getting out of her own head:
Billie: “There's a lot of lying on purpose. And it's not like how rappers lie in their music because they think it sounds dope. It's more like making a character out of yourself. I wrote the song '8' from the perspective of somebody who I hurt. When people hear that song, they're like, 'Oh, poor baby Billie, she's so hurt.' But really I was just a dickhead for a minute and the only way I could deal with it was to stop and put myself in that person's place.”
Being a teen nihilist role model:
Billie: “I love meeting these kids, they just don't give a f**k. And they say they don't give a f**k because of me, which is a feeling I can't even describe. But it's not like they don't give a f**k about people or love or taking care of yourself. It's that you don't have to fit into anything, because we all die, eventually. No one's going to remember you one day—it could be hundreds of years or it could be one year, it doesn't matter—but anything you do, and anything anyone does to you, won't matter one day. So it's like, why the f**k try to be something you're not?”
Embracing sadness:
Billie: “Depression has sort of controlled everything in my life. My whole life I’ve always been a melancholy person. That’s my default.”
Finneas: “There are moments of profound joy, and Billie and I share a lot of them, but when our motor’s off, it’s like we’re rolling downhill. But I’m so proud that we haven’t shied away from songs about self-loathing, insecurity, and frustration. Because we feel that way, for sure. When you’ve supplied empathy for people, I think you’ve achieved something in music.”
Staying present:
Billie: “I have to just sit back and actually look at what's going on. Our show in Stockholm was one of the most peak life experiences we've had. I stood onstage and just looked at the crowd—they were just screaming and they didn’t stop—and told them, 'I used to sit in my living room and cry because I wanted to do this.' I never thought in a thousand years this s**t would happen. We’ve really been choking up at every show.”
Finneas: “Every show feels like the final show. They feel like a farewell tour. And in a weird way it kind of is, because, although it's the birth of the album, it’s the end of the episode.”

Who is AM60?
If you're American and you haven't heard of Chris Root and A.M. Sixty, don't worry. You didn't miss the boat, it's just that the boat has been busy traveling the world.
Chris Root's band A.M. Sixty was born when major labels here were awfully shaky. Chris, determined for his baby not to be listed among the casualties of the seismic stateside shifts, sent A.M. Sixty's demo across the pond and signed with a tiny label in the UK. It was a small deal that made big noise. Both singles from A.M. Sixty UK release were picks of the week on BBC Radio One, both singles charted and A.M. Sixty was invited to record live sessions for the immortal Beeb DJ, John Peel. Sir Peel was not the only spinner smitten. In fact, DJs across the Kingdom rallied around A.M. Sixty and Chris found himself and the band twirling through heavy rotation and a European tour. Next stop, the Empire of the Sun.
A.M. Sixty's record was released in Japan and they opened for Dreams Come True on a stadium tour playing to crowds upwards of 50,000 a night. There was just one problem. Mosquitos, a band that Chris started in his spare time (sitting in airports maybe?) got signed to Bar None in New York. Again, the little engine could and did. Mosquitos toured for a year selling out small rooms and playing with the likes of Air, B-52's, Sugar Ray, and even the Doobie Brothers. While Chris was touring with the Mosquitos, A.M. Sixty's record just wouldn't behave. Tracks from the record found their way into commercials in the US and Europe, the soundtrack of MTV's The Real World, independent films, and the list goes on. All this without having been released in the US. Now of course Chris was happy his baby was making money, but what he really wanted for A.M. Sixty was new friends here in America. He wanted a U.S. release so that folks here could get behind the music that has already translated into smiles between headphones all over the globe.
Well, A.M. Sixty's day has come. On October 12, 2004 V2 Records will release A.M. Sixty's Big As The Sky. Chris and the band really and finally feel at home with V2. Root says, "We like the people there and the work they have done for their bands." When asked about the success of A.M. Sixty abroad, Chris said simply, "We make music inspired by sunshine, the beach, love, heartache, and other good music. Everybody gets that. We're just glad people here can get it now."
Coinciding with their record release, A.M. Sixty will debut on MTV's "You Hear it First" on October 12th. They will be touring the East Coast in October and plan a full US tour in the New Year.

樂團簡介
告五人樂團,於2016年首次登上見證大團的舞台,多年來經過團員的替換及嘗試過不同曲風後,2017年開始由雙主唱潘雲安、犬青,吉他手班長,鼓手哲謙重新組合,同年發行首張全類比製作迷你專輯。
經過多年的累積,告五人在華語地區最大的獨立音樂串流平台StreetVoice有相當好的成績,超過5000人次的訂閱數,多首歌曲如《在這座城市遺失了你》、《披星戴月的想你》都有超過十萬的播放次數。
告五人的音樂不受到框架限制,不將自己歸類於indie或流行,一直以來的創作和演出,都專注於尋找適合這個樂團、專屬於告五人的聲音,也希望透過兩位主唱迷幻且極具特色的嗓音,讓這個迷惘的時代有一個可以陪伴的聲音。
專輯製作介紹
「類比音樂」—錄製時未經電腦計算直接呈現聲音本質的技術手法,所錄製出的音樂,是為類比音樂。
告五人在下定決心製作EP《迷霧之子》前,在發源地宜蘭找到了一個專門「播放音樂」的空間,這座空間名為「放唱片FansRecord音樂空間」。主人Ken,是一位從德國回來的後製混音師,而就是他,徹底讓我們愛上真空管器材以及類比音樂。在這數位串流的時代,或許大家都對音樂「既陌生又熟悉」,音樂每天都陪伴在我們身邊,也可能因為習慣,而漸漸感受不到它本身具有的「重量」。
告五人不斷地思考,自己的音樂應該配上什麼樣的聆聽方式,才是最舒服的,且聽完整張唱片必須在心裡留下一抹痕跡才是。而我們愛聽的音樂種類,他們都來自科技沒那麼發達的時代,卻造就永垂不朽的傳奇,於是我們選擇了類比,選擇了上一個音樂時代的方式,去呈現我們歌曲。
這是我們對經典的致敬,同樣守恆我們自己的信念,而這份信念在遇到Ken之後,變得非常堅定,於是展開在放唱片的錄製工作,最後由Ken本人操刀後製混音,完成屬於我們告五人式的類比聽感。
專輯概念
迷你專輯《迷霧之子》,是告五人想唱出每個人都會經歷過的狀態。主打同名歌曲《迷霧之子》,就是一首關於「回憶」的歌。「回憶」本身,像是一種能量的集合體,承載的情緒千變萬化。最令我們印象深刻的,就是想起某個遺憾,那些遺憾如同缺口,在我們身邊徘徊著,而回憶是因缺口才珍貴。
告五人一直想告訴聽眾的是,面對過去的回憶、痛苦、抑或黑暗,不用想盡辦法逃避,其實我們能學習著,與它們共處。總有一天,就會發現它們再也無法影響波動你的情緒、影響你的生活;聽完這張專輯之後,希望我們都能得到解套。從此看淡悲傷,看重順心
