THE SILVER make their Gilead Media debut with the album Ward of Roses. A record that is at once extreme and exposed, horrific yet beautiful, Ward of Roses explores anxiety, love, loss, and the matters that make us all too human. From “…First Utterance” to “Then Silence…” the curtain rises and falls on a haunting tableau of human frailty, a romantic and visceral exploration of the dark recesses of the soul.
Featuring members of Horrendous and Crypt Sermon, Ward of Roses marks a decidedly different path for the musical collective. An album that deals in blast beats as much as romanticism, Ward of Roses progresses through movements that draw from black metal, goth rock, and other bleak expressions. V’s soaring clean vocals mingle with cathartic guitars while vocalist Nick Duchemin howls over strident blast passages—often in the same song.
THE SILVER’s ethos alludes to metallurgy. Silver can only reach its intended shape, state, and purpose when hammered, set ablaze, and struck again. As the hymns of Ward of Roses suggest, we are tempered through all of our life experiences and traumas, emerging only after we have leapt through the flames of our personal abysses.

Sounding at once meticulous and reckless, sinister and goofy, the experimental trio’s first album in nearly a decade is its most direct appeal to the pleasure center.

Republic Records has released the original song Just Look Up from Adam McKay’s Netflix original film Don’t Look Up. The track is performed by Ariana Grande & Kid Cudi and co-written by themselves, the movie’s composer Nicholas Britell and Taura Stinson. The song is now available to stream/download on all major digital music platforms (including Amazon). Check out the official lyric video after the jump. As previously reported, a full soundtrack album featuring Just Look Up, Britell’s original score and another original song performed by Bon Iver will be coming out next Friday, December 10. Don’t Look Up is written and directed by McKay and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Rob Morgan, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Michael Chiklis, Melanie Lynskey and Himesh Patel. The film will be released in select theaters on December 10 and will premiere on Netflix on December 24.

A new level of barbaric mastery was achieved on ‘Buried Deep In A Bottomless Grave’ Witch Vomit’s second full length from 2019. It was now undeniable that the band was not merely another “OSDM” (stale terminology) band when they’d evolved a maximal and rarely achieved synthesis of European and American Death Metal styles into a flawless melange of horrific gore soaked splendor.
Though bands tend to simmer down as they evolve, Witch Vomit reverse this tendency getting only more extreme with each release. This momentum continues on the band’s latest, ‘Abhorrent Rapture’. Like 2017’s ‘Poisoned Blood’, ‘Abhorrent Rapture’ showcases Witch Vomit in the more immediate and intense MLP format. 4 tracks in roughly 18 minutes of pure savagery but always with that eerie mood, creeping melodic sense and grisly intimidation essential to proper Death Metal.
Though not a full length proper ‘Abhorrent Rapture’ will sate, temporarily, the cannibalistic appetite of the many clamoring for the next Witch Vomit burial mound to come.

Tough Love have partnered with West Coast imprint Mt St Mtn for the release of Free Advice, the instant slowcore/dreampop classic by San Fran four piece, Cindy.
The full album is available to stream/download now, while a highly limited transparent vinyl pressing will be released on 20th November. Free Advice offers a somber-yet-uplifting take on sobered dream pop. Imagine if Galaxie 500’s On Fire didn’t have a guitar solo or if The Trinity Session was stripped of its folk & blues roots; it’s just pure mood. Like sitting in a half-empty movie theatre that’s playing Alphaville or Wild Strawberries and watching patron’s heads briefly illuminated from the screen; Free Advice (and all of the Cindy output) transfers you to these momentary worlds. Cindy is Karina Gill on guitar/vocals, Aaron Diko on synth/keys, Simon Phillips on Drums/Percussion, and Jesse Jackson on Bass/Keys + Simon and Jesse on backing vocals.
The songs on Free Advice are these moments in mood: Phillips & Jackson’s rhythms create the foundation, while Diko’s keys rise and fall. Following MIZMOR’s critically acclaimed 2019 full-length, Cairn, which received high praise from the likes of NPR, Metal Hammer, Decibel Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, AV Club, and so many more, Wit’s End shows raw power flowing seamlessly through songwriting mastery. Merging pitch-black doom laced with hauntingly emotive and ambient sentiments, glacial yet undulating soundscapes, and personal confessions of lost faith and the disenchantment of modern society, MIZMOR has created sonic compositions condemned with passages of shadowed, existential dread. Wit’s End will be released in deluxe format which includes an exclusive DVD featuring a brilliantly hand-drawn and animated music video by Zev Deans for the track "Wit's End". Once Twice Melody is the 8th studio album by Beach House. It is a double album, featuring 18 songs presented in 4 chapters. Across these songs, many types of style and song structures can be heard. Songs without drums, songs centered around acoustic guitar, mostly electronic songs with no guitar, wandering and repetitive melodies, songs built around the string sections. In addition to new sounds, many of the drum machines, organs, keyboards and tones that listeners may associate with previous Beach House records remain present throughout many of the compositions. Beach House is Victoria Legrand, lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, and Alex Scally, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. They write all of their songs together. Once Twice Melody is the first album produced entirely by the band. The live drums are by James Barone (same as their 2018 album, 7), and were recorded at Pachyderm studio in Minnesota and United Studio in Los Angeles. For the first time, a live string ensemble was used. Strings were arranged by David Campbell. The writing and recording of Once Twice Melody began in 2018 and was completed in July of 2021. Most of the songs were created during this time, though a few date back over the previous 10 years. Most of the recording was done at Apple Orchard Studio in Baltimore. Once Twice Melody was mixed largely by Alan Moulder but a few tracks were also mixed by Caesar Edmunds, Trevor Spencer, and Dave Fridmann.

On the soundtrack to an imagistic new film project, the darkwave duo’s limited palette verges on claustrophobia. Their winning formula hasn’t changed, but the music lacks drive.
