Is the Is Are, the highly-anticipated sophomore release from Brooklyn-based DIIV, is an album years and many personal struggles in the making for it's architect, Zachary Cole Smith. Recorded and mixed in various locations in Brooklyn, it showcases everything you know and love about DIIV, and many things you did not, all with an added nuance and depth. It is a 17-song, double-album statement intended to resonate with its audience in much the same way that Bad Moon Rising or Tago Mago has for Smith himself. An extension and deepening of the musical ideas first expressed on 2012's critically-lauded Oshin, Is the Is Are yields a multiplicity of textures, lyrical themes, and moods. It is a more diverse world than Oshin, with different parameters and ideals. Dark and honest to a fault, the new songs are dynamic, loud, quiet, sad; they are songs that hiss and snarl; songs that, as Smith wrote recently, represent "the real me." Smith’s vocals, too, are much closer to the foreground, layered legibly on top of tidal waves of shimmering guitar and melodic bass weaving in and out, leaving a distinct and indelible imprint.

San Francisco based group, featuring Meg Baird (Espers), Noel Von Harmonson (Comets on Fire, Six Organs of Admittance, Sic Alps, The Lowdown), Ethan Miller (Comets on Fire, Howlin’ Rain, Feral Ohms), and Charlie Saufley (Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound). Heron Oblivion’s origins date to 2013 in SF’s Bayview district, where its four members– fueled by a love of 60s/70s scuzz and commune jams, folk rock, noise, and P.S.F. Japanese underground—would get together for what Miller describes as “blistering, extended free jam sessions.” The four musicians realized that their initial chemistry (which was strong from the outset) was undeniable and it’s vision unified. Heron Oblivion was born. Ultimately, Heron Oblivion fused song craft to its improvisational leanings. What materialized is a mesmeric compilation of English folk rock and earthy West Coast psychedelia spiked with feedback and explosive dissonant elements. The sum of these elements will make up their Sub Pop debut.

Jesu/Sun Kil Moon is a collaborative studio album by American indie folk act Sun Kil Moon and British experimental act Jesu, released January 21, 2016 on Caldo Verde Records and Rough Trade. The album also features guests Will Oldham aka Bonnie "Prince" Billy, members of Low, Rachel Goswell of Slowdive and Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. Jesu and Sun Kil Moon including drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth will play five shows in February and March 2016 to support the album.

‘United Crushers’ is POLIÇA’s third full length release and most remarkable album to date. The band, which includes Channy Leaneagh, dual drummers, Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu and Chris Beirden on bass with producer Ryan Olson at the helm, collectively wrote the album in Minneapolis in the winter of 2015 during their first true break from two years of touring. They recorded it at the renowned Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, TX, nestled just a few short miles from the US/Mexico border. The new album builds on POLIÇA’s signature synthesizer and percussion-heavy sounds with more complex arrangements and a bigger, crisper hi fi punch due to the new approach they took to writing and recording: together, all in the same room. There's a tighter groove to these songs and a more vulnerable quality to them, especially in Leaneagh's singing. Her incredible vocal range is on display throughout, beautifully raw and less effected than on previous recordings.
The themes found and explored on ‘United Crushers’ are political and personal and touch on social injustice, self-doubt and isolation, urban decline and gentrification, overcoming music industry machinations, and finding true and honest love in the wake of it all. Even at its darkest, the record is musically the band's most upbeat and celebratory. It is a weapon meant to empower the weak, the forgotten, and the disenfranchised.

Shamir has announced Ratchet, his debut album. The 10-track LP will be out May 19 in North America and May 18 everywhere else via XL.
Additionally, he'll be heading on a short tour beginning in May, including stops at the Pitchfork Music Festival and Pitchfork's SXSW party.

Petal has always been a deeply personal project for songwriter & lead singer Kiley Lotz. Shame, the band’s debut LP three years in the making, is a honest and perceptive exploration of the album’s namesake. These twelve tracks recall the elastic indie rock of Death Cab For Cutie and Pedro the Lion - sometimes somber, sometimes upbeat, but always beautifully & thoughtfully crafted. The range of songs and emotions on Shame are notable: tracks like “Heaven” and “Camera Lens II” are indie-pop pleasures brimming with nostalgic remembrance. Port St. Willow is the solo vehicle of ambient pop and drone artist Nicholas Principe.
The project started in 2009 when Principe was living in Portland, Oregon, and melded textural atmospheric sounds with soft, slowcore song structures and falsetto vocals. A self-released first album, Even//Wasteland, appeared in late 2010, making the rounds in the form of a hand-stamped CD-R. Principe migrated to Brooklyn in 2012 where he finished and self-released a second album Holiday. Holiday made more of an impression, drawing outspoken praise from several media outlets as well as a public nod of recommendation from noise pop godfather Brian Eno.
Principe is currently living in New York and collaborating with new live members Thomas Crane and Andrew Dunn as they prepare for the release of a new record later this year.

Forever Sound is the 6th album from Cincinnati’s Wussy, and the second to be released in the UK following the 2012 compilation Buckeye and 2014’s Attica!. These 10 new tracks were recorded at John Curley’s (Afghan Whigs) Ultrasuede Studios, and mastered by Dave Davis at QCA, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Following the band’s first national TV appearance (CBS) in 2014 and increased critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork & Spin, Wussy’s newest LP Forever Sounds finds the band crafting some of its most raw and melodic material to date, exploring such themes as hauntings, false prophets, aliens, and The Big Lebowski… all blanketed inside layers of noise. The effect is equally jagged and serene, a blend of singable Americana and “arena-drone”.
