I Am A Bird Now, is the second full-length album from extraordinary New York artist, ANTONY & THE JOHNSONS, and features contributions from both Antony's peers (RUFUS WAINWRIGHT, DEVENDRA BANHARDT) and heroes (LOU REED, BOY GEORGE). Their involvement reflects both their admiration for Antony, and his unique place in the contemporary arts community. Antony was recently in Australia to perform at the LEONARD COHEN tribute nights at the Sydney Opera House. Foals are a rock band from Oxford, England formed in 2005, consisting of lead vocalist and lead guitarist Yannis Philippakis, drummer and percussionist Jack Bevan, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Smith, and keyboardist Edwin Congreave.

Marika Hackman’s striking folk-poetry is set to return this Winter, with the release of her ‘Sugar Blind’ EP to follow up March’s mini-album ‘That Iron Taste’.
Working with producer Charlie Andrews again, Marika’s vivid and gritty emphasis has been channelled once more, and whilst it’s a step into grungier experimentation, it retains the chilling ability to stir you as a listener, deep within.
On lead track ‘Cinnamon’ the moody riffs are subduing, and warped synths rumble sinfully. Summoning this dour feeling – the beginnings of which even she does not seem to be able to place – the majestic arrangements that Andrews has helped her curate are entrancing, as she soothes in her deep tones “the radio plays my favourite song, we can listen until our minds go numb”. This is no pop record though, no matter how compatible that lyric seems with pop.
Lucid moments of Haim-like drumming and tender, resonating chords lighten the mood in dramatic fashion, as ‘Cinnamon’ gives another glimpse at Marika’s direction. She may still be pushing for her music to reach a new destination, but she’s already sounding a whole lot more liberated, even without vocalising such aspirations lyrically.

A stunning new album that goes beyond the news stories and photos that lays bare a man's soul, an excavation of a heart left desolate. Recorded over a month of sessions in autumn 2008 at London's legendary Olympic Studios with producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, Cranberries, Kaiser Chiefs), Peter Doherty brings to life a collection of songs many which have existed since the heady days with The Libertines. Without the guise of The Libertines and Babyshambles to hide behind, never before have we seen Doherty so personal, raw, and vulnerable in his songwriting. Ripe with lyrical insights, Doherty's main themes are present and truthful - his troubles with youth, music, love and addiction are all revealed.
Adding color to Doherty's compositions is Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, appearing on nearly every track, instilling in the music his pedigree and refi ned studio nous. Scottish singer Dot Allison (One Dove) and poet Peter "Wolfman" Wolfe also make contributions to the record.

Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements is the second studio album by English-French rock band Stereolab. It was released on 24 August 1993 and was issued by Duophonic Records and Elektra Records.

The band has managed to squeeze six albums out of that approach, which in itself tells you something. Back when they were just four unknowns in heavy eye shadow and feather boas with slogans scrawled on their clothes, they famously had the audacity (or was it marketing savvy?) to proclaim that they would make the greatest rock album ever and then split-- neither of which panned out, of course. Their debut, Generation Terrorists, walked a weird line between agit-punk, cock rock, romantic melodicism and glam, and was so obviously patterned after The Clash's London Calling that it was actually kind of cute. They did add a chapter to rock folklore, however, after releasing their best record (1994's tormented The Holy Bible), when lyricist Richey Edwards-- suffering from anorexia, alcoholism and a pattern of self-abuse that culminated in him carving "4REAL" in his arm with a razor blade during an interview with Steve Lamacq as a manner of addressing critics who doubted the band's conviction-- disappeared, never to be seen again.

With its full-length debut Peng!, Stereolab continued to develop a unique approach to experimental pop music, building on the seriously playful mix of Krautrock, dream pop, and lounge forged on the band's early singles. The album's first three tracks present the basic kinds of songs that the band would explore in the future: the tense, brooding "Super Falling Star" builds on simple keyboard drones and chilly, choral vocals; "Orgiastic" is a prototypically chugging, droning guitar and keyboard workout; and the sweet, bouncy melody and "ba ba ba" backing vocals of "Peng! 33" define Stereolab's early pop sound. "Perversion" mixes a heavy, dance-inspired beat with strummy, Velvet Underground guitars and Beach Boys harmonies, while "The Seeming and the Meaning" and "Stomach Worm" are two of the band's most dynamic, rock-oriented songs. Dreamy, melancholy songs like "K-Stars" and "You Little Shits" and the fuzzed-out "Mellotron" and "Enivrez-Vous" represent, respectively, the soft and loud aspects of Stereolab's more experimental side, and "Surrealchemist" manages to combine all of the aspects of the group's sound, with overtly Marxist lyrics to boot. While Peng! doesn't feature many of Stereolab's most instantly recognizable compositions, it defines the group's early style and reflects the eclectic directions pursued in later work.
