When Work Disappears 豆瓣
作者: William Julius Wilson Vintage 1997 - 7
Wilson, one of our foremost authorities on race and poverty, challenges decades of liberal and conservative pieties to look squarely at the devastating effects that joblessness has had on our urban ghettos. Marshaling a vast array of data and the personal stories of hundreds of men and women, Wilson persuasively argues that problems endemic to America's inner cities--from fatherless households to drugs and violent crime--stem directly from the disappearance of blue-collar jobs in the wake of a globalized economy. Wilson's achievement is to portray this crisis as one that affects all Americans, and to propose solutions whose benefits would be felt across our society. At a time when welfare is ending and our country's racial dialectic is more strained than ever, When Work Disappears is a sane, courageous, and desperately important work.

"Wilson is the keenest liberal analyst of the most perplexing of all American problems...[This book is] more ambitious and more accessible than anything he has done before."--The New Yorker

Thinking Through Methods 豆瓣
作者: John Levi Martin University Of Chicago Press 2017 - 1
Sociological research is hard enough already you don't need to make it even harder by smashing about like a bull in a china shop, not knowing what you're doing or where you're heading. Or so says John Levi Martin in this witty, insightful, and desperately needed primer on how to practice rigorous social science. Thinking Through Methods focuses on the practical decisions that you will need to make as a researcher where the data you are working with comes from and how that data relates to all the possible data you could have gathered. This is a user's guide to sociological research, designed to be used at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Rather than offer mechanical rules and applications, Martin chooses instead to team up with the reader to think through and with methods. He acknowledges that we are human beings and thus prone to the same cognitive limitations and distortions found in subjects and proposes ways to compensate for these limitations. Martin also forcefully argues for principled symmetry, contending that bad ethics makes for bad research, and vice versa. Thinking Through Methods is a landmark work one that students will turn to again and again throughout the course of their sociological research.

Geography and Social Movements 豆瓣
作者: Miller, Byron A. Univ Of Minnesota Press 2000 - 6
A comparative analysis of the implications of space, place, and scale in political mobilization.
Context matters, as students of social movements increasingly agree, and yet very little attention has been paid to the role geography plays in activism. Geography and Social Movements corrects this oversight, bringing a geographical perspective to the study of social movements. Byron A. Miller directly addresses the implications of space, place, and scale in social movement mobilization, and then demonstrates their significance in a detailed comparative analysis of peace movements in three municipalities around Boston.
In focusing on the Boston area-an old northeastern region, heavily industrialized with many companies working on military contracts, and also a center of education-Miller is able to explore how campaigns aimed at curbing nuclear arms operate within the cultural, political, social, and economic confines of particular places and spaces. He shows how the decisions and actions of local peace movement organizations played a central role in the movement’s successes and failures, and how local organizations had to respond to the differing class, race, and gender characteristics of different locales. Miller’s empirical analysis clearly demonstrates that geographic strategies for social movement organizations have direct consequences for the successes and failures of specific campaigns.

Social Movements 豆瓣
作者: David S. Meyer / Nancy Whittier Oxford University Press, USA 2002 - 6
Why do social movements take the forms they do? How do activists' efforts and beliefs interact with the cultural and political contexts in which they work? Why do activists take particular strategic paths, and how do their strategies affect the course and impact of the movement? Social Movements aims to bridge the gap between "political opportunities" theorists who look at the circumstances and effects of social movement efforts and "collective identity theorists" who focus on the reconstruction of meaning and identity through collective action. The volume brings together scholars from a variety of perspectives to consider the intersections of opportunities and identities, structures and cultures, in social movements. Representing a new generation of social movement theory, the contributors build bridges between political opportunities and collective identity paradigms, between analyses of movements' internal dynamics and their external contexts, between approaches that emphasize structure and those that emphasize culture. They cover a wide range of case studies from both the U.S. and Western Europe as well as from less developed countries. Movements include feminist organizing in the U.S. and India, lesbian/gay movements, revolutionary movements in Burma, the Philippines, and Indonesia, labor campaigns in England and South Africa, civil rights movements, community organizing, political party organizing in Canada, student movements of the left and right, and the Religious Right. Many chapters also pay explicit attention to the dynamics of gender, race, and class in social movements. Combining a variety of perspectives on a wide range of topics, the contributors' synthetic approach shifts the field of social movements forward in important new directions.

太宰治生涯罕见的浪漫之作,
囊括不为读者所知的每一面
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
《小说灯笼》一书收录的文章写于1940至1944年间,那时太宰治才刚步入他一生唯一一次正式的婚姻。
婚姻的幸福把他从殉情失败的深渊中救出,将他带入了温暖与光明之中。作为对这救赎的报答,太宰治立誓努力写作、不再颓废、为创造美好世界贡献力量,于是便有了这本《小说灯笼》。
《小说灯笼》收录了太宰治的十六篇短篇小说,太宰治写家庭,写恋爱,写笑话,写生活。他写了几乎所有可以让读者感到温暖与快乐的东西,唯独避免写早已看惯的生死。这些作品一反太宰治充满颓废、内疚与自我否定的刻板印象,呈现出宛如灯笼般的明亮与温暖。
本书共分为四辑:
辑一「喧哗」:生活安乐时,作绝望之诗;失意受挫时,写生之欢愉。
辑二「幻灭」:我不太喜欢听别人的恋爱故事,因为恋爱故事里,一定有所粉饰。
辑三「独白」:其他生物绝对不会有“秘密”,那是只有人类才可能拥有的东西。
辑四「人间」:我的善良是,毫不斟酌地让对方看到我的全貌。
在太宰治的故事里,没有坏人,只有软弱的人。但软弱并非罪恶,因为软弱更能体会点点温情。太宰治总在内心痛苦、身感疲惫时,反而拼命制造愉快的气氛。其实太宰治的人生就是一场哀伤的喜剧,他自幼便察言观色,喜欢逗人发笑。即便在人生最为困苦的时刻,他仍不忘顾虑他人的感受。也正因此,他才更原意在自己幸福时散发出更多的能量,为身处动荡社会的寒风中的人民,带去一盏温暖的灯笼。
文学跟艺术一样,能抵制住傲慢的时间——让我们成为习惯长廊里的失眠症患者,并主动从死亡那里挽救事物的生命。
—— 詹姆斯·伍德
在这部融合了回忆录与评论集的优秀著作中,詹姆斯·伍德就小说与生活的关联书写了一堂大师课。他论证说,在所有的艺术门类里,小说在描述我们的生活形态、 从死亡与历史遗忘中拯救那些生活的肌质方面有着独到的能力。在这里,阅读的行为被理解为最神圣和最个人化的行为,书里对几部个别的作品有精彩的讨论——包括契诃夫的短篇故事《吻》、W.G.泽巴尔德的《异乡人》和菲兹杰拉德的《蓝花》。伍德透露了他本人与书写文字的亲密关系:我们看到一个来自乡间的男孩的成长历程,他在浓厚的基督教背景中长大,童年时代的阅读带给他隐秘的喜悦,他在阅读与亵渎宗教、文学与音乐之间建立起联系。本书最后一部分在放逐与无家可归的语境下讨论小说。《最接近生活的事物》不是简单的一本由我们公认的最优秀的在世批评家所著的简短、论证严密的书——它还是一段令人心潮澎湃的个人叙述,反思并体现了读者与作者(还有批评家)之间富有成效的共谋,并邀请我们重新思考对我们阅读与创作小说而言至关重要的一切事物。
Capitalism from Below 豆瓣
作者: Victor Nee / Sonja Opper Harvard University Press 2012 - 6
More than 630 million Chinese have escaped poverty since the 1980s, reducing the fraction remaining from 82 to 10 percent of the population. This astonishing decline in poverty, the largest in history, coincided with the rapid growth of a private enterprise economy. Yet private enterprise in China emerged in spite of impediments set up by the Chinese government. How did private enterprise overcome these initial obstacles to become the engine of China's economic miracle? Where did capitalism come from?
Studying over 700 manufacturing firms in the Yangzi region, Victor Nee and Sonja Opper argue that China's private enterprise economy bubbled up from below. Through trial and error, entrepreneurs devised institutional innovations that enabled them to decouple from the established economic order to start up and grow small, private manufacturing firms. Barriers to entry motivated them to build their own networks of suppliers and distributors, and to develop competitive advantage in self-organized industrial clusters. Close-knit groups of like-minded people participated in the emergence of private enterprise by offering financing and establishing reliable business norms.
This rapidly growing private enterprise economy diffused throughout the coastal regions of China and, passing through a series of tipping points, eroded the market share of state-owned firms. Only after this fledgling economy emerged as a dynamic engine of economic growth, wealth creation, and manufacturing jobs did the political elite legitimize it as a way to jump-start China's market society. Today, this private enterprise economy is one of the greatest success stories in the history of capitalism.
Talking About Race 豆瓣
作者: Walsh, Katherine Cramer Univ of Chicago Pr 2007 - 5
It is a perennial question: how should Americans deal with racial and ethnic diversity? More than 400 communities across the country have attempted to answer it by organizing discussions among diverse volunteers in an attempt to improve race relations. In "Talking about Race", Katherine Cramer Walsh takes an eye-opening look at this strategy to reveal the reasons behind the method and the effects it has in the cities and towns that undertake it. With extensive observations of community dialogues, interviews with the discussants, and sophisticated analysis of national data, Walsh shows that while meeting organizers usually aim to establish common ground, participants tend to leave their discussions with a heightened awareness of differences in perspective and experience. Drawing readers into these intense conversations between ordinary Americans working to deal with diversity and figure out the meaning of citizenship in our society, she challenges many preconceptions about intergroup relations and organized public talk. Disputing the conventional wisdom that unity is the only way forward, Walsh prescribes a practical politics of difference that compels us to reassess the place of face-to-face discussion in civic life and the critical role of conflict in deliberative democracy.
Militants and Citizens 豆瓣
作者: Gianpaolo Baiocchi Stanford University Press 2005 - 3
Brazil’s democracy has frequently been described as unconsolidated, its citizens as apathetic and uninterested in politics. But in Porto Alegre, a host city to the World Social Forum, thousands of ordinary citizens participate in local governance, making binding decisions on urban policy on a daily basis. While there has been immense attention paid to the practice of participatory democracy in Porto Alegre, this is the first book to examine the politics, culture, and day-to-day activities of its citizens.
Drawing on the rich tradition of urban ethnography and political theory, the book argues that Porto Alegre’s importance may lie not just with its effective governance, but with its new political logic, namely a greater access to government functions and government officials for traditionally disenfranchised citizens. In an age characterized by seemingly strong voter apathy, this study has global implications. The author shows that in the discussions on the failings of democracy in industrialized countries like the United States, most people may be missing what is central to civic engagement—unimpeded access to government.
缠足 豆瓣 谷歌图书
Cinderella's Sisters:A Revisionist History of Footbinding
8.7 (21 个评分) 作者: [美] 高彦颐 译者: 苗延威 江苏人民出版社 2018 - 7
本书的前半部首先考察了缠足在现代的、全球化的世界里,逐渐失去文化光环的过程。在面临“天足”概念和“放足”运动冲击的过渡时代(19世纪80年代至20世纪30年代)里,高彦颐指出,“缠足”解组为三种层次的时间性:具有文化荣耀或正当性的缠足、作为一种社会实践的缠足,以及个体体现的缠足。这种解组使得反缠足论述的进步史观与所谓的“缠足的终结”之间,出现了某种“时间差”。人们不会在一夕之间从旧式生活翻转到新式生活。即使缠足已然丧失其文化光环,不少小脚母亲还是固着于传统思维,继续为女儿缠脚,固执地相信小脚才是值得追求的真理。换言之,过渡时代呈现出来的特色,是一种“在时间、感情和时尚之间徘徊、游移和摆荡的动态”(第7页)。缠足的终结并不是一个“从缠到解’’的直线进程;相反的,缠足既是一种普遍而且复杂多样的现象,其消逝必然历经漫长而反复的过程,也必然纠缠在上述三种时间性的错乱步调之中。
吕途通过深入访谈,记录了34位普通人的所思所想、生命故事,她们是中国女工,从五〇后到九〇后。这些故事延伸出了两个历史:一个是时代变迁的历史,一个是个人的生命历程。当代中国的巨变深刻地塑造着每一个人,而不同年龄段女工的成长经历、谋生历程,也从不为人知的角落见证了中国社会的转型。
作为女性,她们的恋爱、婚姻和生育是女工故事的重要内容,她们承受着比男性劳动者更为沉重的家庭责任和社会偏见;作为劳动者,她们生活得如何,是否能获得解放和新生,也是衡量社会变革的尺度。女工个体的生命经验固然会显得单薄甚至无助,而当每一位劳动者的经历汇集在一起的时候,我们看到的是女工群体坚韧的精神面貌。
本书是“中国新工人”三部曲的第三部。新工人的故事其实是写不完的,他们还走在各自生命的旅途上,继续创造着历史。
这条路是元代的辇路,是皇帝往返两都之间的专属性道路,设有十八处纳钵。
Communitas 豆瓣
作者: Roberto Esposito 译者: Timothy C. Campbell Stanford University Press 2009 - 10
No theme has been more central to international philosophical debates than that of community: from American communitarianism to Habermas's ethic of communication to the French deconstruction of community in the work of Derrida and Nancy. Nevertheless, in none of these cases has the concept been examined from the perspective of community's original etymological meaning: "cum munus." In "Communitas: The Origin and Destiny of Community," Roberto Esposito does just that through an original counter-history of political philosophy that takes up not only readings of community by Hobbes, Rousseau, Kant, Heidegger and Bataille, but also by Holderlin, Nietzsche, Canetti, Arendt, and Sartre. The result of his extraordinary conceptual and lexical analysis is a radical overturning of contemporary interpretations of community. Community isn't a property, nor is it a territory to be separated and defended against those who do not belong to it. Rather, it is a void, a debt, a gift to the other that also reminds us of our constitutive alterity with respect to ourselves.
驱逐 豆瓣
作者: [美]萨斯基娅·萨森 江苏教育出版社 2016 - 5
我们正在面对全球政治经济时代的一个难题,即出现了“驱逐”的新逻辑。过去的二十年见证了这样的事实:大量人口、企业和空间不断地从核心社会经济秩序中被驱赶出来。有时候,如此彻底的驱逐是由基础性的政策实现的;但其他时候则是依靠我们最先进的经济技术成就实现的。“驱逐”这一构想将超越我们熟知的概念,即日益增长的不平等,而作为理解当下全球资本主义病理学的一种路径。此外,它亦揭示了我们尊敬和崇尚的知识与智力形式往往是一个长期交易链的起源,而其则会以简单驱逐而告终。
在本书中,作者所研究的大量事实与案例意欲强调我们现有的宏大类化的局限性。尽管存在着许多差异,然而不管在社会主义或自由民主政体之下,在非洲抑或北美,总有一些实践主导着我们采矿业、制造业、人力开发的运作。这些实践发生在政治经济的特定秩序之中,这些特定秩序又赋予其各种不同的内涵。
作者研究的起点是20世纪80年代,一个无论是世界南北、资本主义或是共产主义经济都上演着重要变化的年代。她指出这一浩瀚历史时期的两个重大转向,并以此作为这个时代的注解。这两个转向席卷了整个世界。但是它们却在不同的地点演化出了各自不同的特征,而正是这一特性使得这些转向成为本书研究的一个有价值的背景。
Liberalism and Republicanism in the Historical Imagination 豆瓣
作者: Joyce Appleby Harvard University Press 1992 - 3
Like dye cast into water, liberal assumptions colour everything American, from ideas about human nature to fears about big government. Not the dreaded "L" word of the 1988 presidential campaign, liberalism in its historical context emerged from the modern faith in free inquiry, natural rights, economic liberty, and democratic government. Expressed in the nation-building acts of revolution and constitution-writing, liberalism both structured and limited Americans' sense of reality for two centuries. The nation's scholars were unable to break away from liberalism's pervasive hold on the American mind until the last generation - when they recovered the lost world of classical republicanism. Ornate, aristocratic, prescriptive and concerned with the common good, this form of republicanism held sway among the founding fathers before the triumph of liberal thought, with its simple egalitarian, rational, and individualistic emphasis. The two concepts, as Joyce Appleby shows, posed choices for 18th century thinkers much as they have divided 20th century scholars. Entering one of the liveliest debates in the scholarly world about our ideological roots, Appleby follows the labyrinthine controversies that these two perspectives have generated in their day and in ours. In doing so, she addresses the tensions that remain to be resolved in the democratic societies of the late twentieth century - the complex relations between individual and community, personal liberty and the common good, aspiration and practical wisdom.
生命的力量 豆瓣
作者: 林强 四川文艺出版社 2017 - 8
这是一本文字不多却有丰厚内涵和震撼力的非虚构文学作品。作者林强既是国内知名的摄影家,也是四川省资深的教育工作者。过去的十多年里,林强曾无数次走进四川西部的大凉山进行摄影采风,帮助山区学校建设(他在四川凉山彝族自治州布拖县乌依乡阿布洛哈村为学龄儿童建成了林川小学),也因此得以结识了本书的主人公——普格县的麻风病康复者钱智昌,并与他成为知己而帮扶他。钱智昌十二岁被发现身患麻风病,为了不传染别人,他选择进入大山深处与世隔绝独自生活,后来得到国家救治来到麻风病人聚居区麻风村,靠着自己的努力种地生活,还帮助了不少身边的人们。特别在十多年前他与林强结识后,更是对他打开了一扇通往外面现代世界的窗口,钱智昌不畏病痛不弃希望,自尊而又坚强的一生,彰显出高贵的品质,实现梦想的智慧,完美地体现了当前扶贫攻坚工程中倡导的“扶贫扶志”方向。本书中的叙述因其真实而令人动容、发人深省。作者写道:“现在那批麻风病人已经迈入了老年,有些已经过世了,再过二三十年,他们都将走过生命的终点,而“麻风病”这三个字也将从这片大陆上慢慢地消失,也许那时候没有人记得这批麻风病人,甚至没有人记得世上还有“麻风病”这一恶魔。可恰恰是这批麻风病人用他们的生命为我们筑起了一道安全的围墙,用他们的爱为我们开辟了一片健康的土地。他们自愿走入深山老林,割舍掉亲人,拒绝爱人,拖着残肢顽强地活着。当他们消逝在历史的长河中,当麻风病随着老一辈人的记忆消散时,我还是想给后来的人留下一点认知。”这简单的初衷便是作者创作本书的目的,让更多的中国人能知道这一片被世界遗忘却又坚守爱与善念的村庄,不忘那些自立坚强的麻风病人为国人的幸福健康所做出的悲壮的牺牲。
★本书作为一本纪实文学,具有素材真实、感情真挚、摄影图片震撼、思考深入等特点,向读者展示了祖国西部这块广袤土地上人们的生活和扶贫路上的问题,展示了党和政府在扶贫攻坚事业上表现出的决心,展示了麻风病人这一特殊群体在残酷的命运面前表现出的坚韧,这一切都是生命本身赋予人的力量,绝不放弃的力量。
★作者林强是国内知名摄影家,也是四川省资深的教育工作者。曾获“中国第七届摄影金像奖”;2007年被中宣部、人力资源和社会保障部、中国文联授予“全国德艺双馨文艺工作者”荣誉称号;2009年被授予“中国最有影响力的摄影家”称号;《在那遥远的地方》被评为“首届向全国推荐百种优秀民族图书”;编创的电影《贡嘎日噢》2016年在美国第十三届世界民族电影节上获“优秀故事片奖”。2007年在人民大会堂举办个人纪实摄影展。
★当前,在党中央精准扶贫、2020年实现全面脱贫和小康的目标下,大凉山地区的扶贫问题已经引起了许多人的关注。类似四川凉山州阿布洛哈村、森科洛村的贫困问题、贫困原因、未来出路非常需要引起社会关注,也具有被关注的重要价值。
★20世纪五六十年代,大批麻风病人为了家里人、村里人甚至陌生人离开家,独自前往山林中生活,主动隔绝了人世。而今,他们已年迈,他们已步入人生的最后时期,他们已丧失了劳动能力,他们又该何去何从呢?也许这本书可以让你认识一点关于麻风病人的现实。
★随书附赠作者签名麻风村精美摄影照片
《生命的力量:一个麻风病人的纪实》一书,真实记录了林强与这些麻风病人的交流和交往过程,表达了他对这些麻风病人的尊重和感激,同时也展现出他对凉山州贫困现象的思考。本书的主人公麻风病患者钱智昌,这位身残志坚、坚忍顽强的老人,正是凉山州麻风村最具代表性的一个人物。林强通过讲述与钱智昌的十年交往故事,试图揭开麻风村的一角,让我们得以凝视这面角落里的镜子,反思我们的扶贫工作,甚而整个人类的命运。
——韩方明(北京大学博士,国际关系和民族问题专家,全国政协外事委员会副主任)
该书的主题,“生命的力量”体现在三个层面:一,主人公钱智昌与命运抗争、永不放弃的巨大生命力;二,“我”(林强)为代表的国家和政府对大凉山地区不懈的关怀和帮扶,全国各族人民共奔小康的坚定信念;三,祖国西南部这块土地上人们对共同富裕的渴望和亟待解决的问题。个人和国家的命运,一个小村庄与祖国西南落后乡村的当下与未来,作者通过这一个人的命运进行了生动的展现和深刻的诠释。
