The album was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aaron Dessner of The National was isolating and quarantining with his family, when Swift had approached him in late April to write some songs remotely together. 11 songs were written with Dessner over the next few months, while the others were written with Jack Antonoff, William Bowery and Bon Iver. "I thought it would take a while for song ideas to come and I had no expectations as far as what we could accomplish remotely," Dessner wrote in his tweet, "But a few hours after sharing music, my phone lit up with a voice memo from Taylor of a fully written song -- the momentum never really stopped."
The album's release was announced by Swift on her social media accounts hours before its midnight, July 24, 2020, launch. It follows her seventh studio albumLover, released almost a year prior. The album has eight deluxe CDs and vinyls that are only available for a week for the physical copies, all of which have different covers and photos.
An accompanying music videofor the lead single "Cardigan" will be released along with the album.

アイリッシュ音楽、古楽をバックボーンに持つbaobabと音楽家 haruka nakamuraとの新たな歌が詰まったインスト含む至極のアルバム。サウンドはシンプルなアコースティックサウドに古楽器が自由なスタイルで入れ込まれている。
2015年、baobabと川内倫子で製作した『Light of dance』。 その映像と音を発表した写真展をきっかけにbaobabとharuka nakamuraの音の旅は始まる。同展示で、baobabとharuka nakamuraは初めてセッションを行う。全く異なるバックグラウンドと、活動の場を持つ2組が、互いに新鮮な音に出会い、そこには新しい音 の風景が生まれた。haruka nakamura PIANO EMSAMBLEへbaobab が歌で参加したり、baobab主催のsing bird concertでの共演など各地で音を重ねてきた中で、互いに生まれる音が交差するようにアルバムが構成されている。まさにその土地から受けるインスピレーシ ョンで音が生まれている。アルバムの代表曲となる「カナタ」はbaobabとharuka nakamuraが即興でワンフレーズずつ音とアイディアを出し合いながら、一曲として完成している。
大分山香カテリーナの森を拠点とし、自然の中での暮らしや、ものづくりとともにある音楽を発信するbaobabと、音の旅を続けるharuka nakamuraから生まれる音楽との融合。そこには、海と森の 歌が描かれている。大きな海から始まり、森へとつながってゆく自然の物語。そして一日の運行、日々終わって始まること。夜明け、 緑に降り注ぐ光、影、海に暮れてゆく太陽、そして夜に浮かび上がる木々のシルエット。また、夜は朝へとつながってゆく。歌、ギタ ー、フィドル、古楽器、パーカッション、そしてピアノが、そんな 自然の運行や、航海のように流れゆく景色の旋律を奏でる。
写真家、川内倫子が手がけたジャケットとブックレットの美しい写真たちは、初夏と真冬、二つの季節のカテリーナの森での写真、そ して海の写真が、歌詞に寄り添うように、綴られてゆく。

While Nico was the member of the Velvet Underground who had had the least experience in music prior to joining the group (while she had recorded a pop single in England, she'd never been a member of a working band before Andy Warhol introduced her to the Velvets), she was also the one who strayed farthest from traditional rock & roll after her brief tenure with the band, and by the time she recorded Desertshore, her work had little (if anything) to do with traditional Western pop. John Cale, who produced and arranged Desertshore, once described the music as having more to do with 20th century classical music than anything else, and while that may be going a bit far to make a point, even compared to the avant-rock frenzy of the Velvet Underground's early material, Desertshore is challenging stuff. Nico's dour Teutonic monotone is a compelling but hardly welcoming vocal presence, and the songs, centered around the steady drone of her harmonium, are often grim meditations on fate that are crafted and performed with inarguable skill and intelligence, but are also a bit samey, and the album's downbeat tone gets to be rough sledding by the end of side two. Cale's arrangements are superb throughout, and "My Only Child," "Afraid," and "The Falconer" are quite beautiful in their own ascetic way, but like the bulk of Nico's repertoire, Desertshore is an album practically designed to polarize its listeners; you'll either embrace it's darkness or give up on it before the end of side one. Then again, given the thoroughly uncompromising nature of her career as a musician, that's probably just what Nico had in mind.
