Apifera is the new project of Yuval Havkin aka Rejoicer (keys), Nitai Hershkovits (keys), Amir Bresler (drums) and Yonatan Albalak (bass). Accomplished solo artists in their own right, the four musicians have come together for their debut album Overstand. Named after a variety of bee-attracting orchid, Apifera create organic-sounding structures, harmonies and arrangements intended to reflect the rich variety and equilibrium of the natural world.
While Overstand is the quartet’s first full-length as Apifera, the four artists have played together on several Stones Throw recordings. Yuval’s albums as Rejoicer, Energy Dreams and Spiritual Sleaze, featured contributions from the rest of the band, and Apifera collaborated with funk legend Steve Arrington for his upcoming album Down To The Lowest Terms: The Soul Sessions, out in September.
Apifera’s influences range from the folk music of their home country Israel, to Impressionist composers Ravel and Satie, traditional music from Sudan and Ghana, and the transcendental jazz of Sun Ra. Working intuitively, the quartet wrote and recorded Overstand mostly live in just three days, and the final album includes minimal overdubbing. “Orchestrating is a big part of our sound,” says Nitai. “We paid a lot of attention to the textures, discussing<span><span class="bcTruncateEllipsis">...</span></span><span class="bcTruncateMore" style="display:none"> timbres and temperatures in detail throughout the recording process.”
Drawing on real-life spiritual and psychedelic experiences, often intertwined with nature, as a springboard for their music, Apifera showcases a sound “more like a lucid dream than reality”, as Nitai puts it — free, improvisatory, and live.</span><span>&nbsp; <a>more</a></span>releases January 15, 2021

What can one expect of an album called “Sauropoda”? Think of it as a 2am youtube find. Or that weird looking soviet prog funk LP reissue you never dared to buy. It actually sounds more like a L’Eclair show. Most of the new album comes from deep jams the band road-tested following the recording of Polymood. Some of the tracks faithfully capture the live sound of the band while the rest includes carefully crafted dance floor grooves, last minute studio fantasies and genuine late night jams. L’Eclair is about all those things. And things never sound the same twice.
Sauropoda was recorded in the mountains with the band’s live engineer Benoit “Gérard” Erard. In case anyone ever wonders about the way L’Eclair sounded in 2018, Sauropoda would be the correct answer. Proto-groove was born.

Mama's Gun is the second studio album by American singer Erykah Badu. It was recorded between 1999 and 2000 at Electric Lady Studios in New York and released on November 21, 2000, by Motown Records. A neo soul album, Mama's Gun incorporates elements of funk, soul, and jazz styles.

Recorded live to tape in Karate Boogaloo’s studio space, a cramped attic above a factory in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Carn The Boogers was entirely tracked and mixed by the band.
The album, named for the vehement catch-cry that has developed within Karate Boogaloo’s Australian audience, captures KB’s unconventional cinematic, break-heavy funk.
Completed in 2017, the album was put to one side, until College Of Knowledge Records label heads Jethro Curtin and Lachlan Stuckey convinced KB that the record had to be released.

Being the humble guys that they are, Surprise Chef aren't going to admit they have something very special going down. However, there must be some magic in their studio, or maybe in the fact they all share a house and have formed close bonds, or perhaps from absorbing the DIY ethos of running their own record label that has culminated in such a unique and enchanting sound.

All News Is Good News is the debut LP from Melbourne instrumental soul band Surprise Chef.
Recorded live to tape over a handful of sessions in the band’s home studio in Melbourne’s inner-northern suburb of Coburg, it traverses the group’s unconventional jazz-funk sound; journeying through cinematic shades of light and dark, tension and release.
Whilst the band comprises of four key members, All News Is Good News features multiple guest instrumentalists on bass flute, vibraphone, saxophone, congas and assorted percussion, creating vivid, textural landscapes within the journey of the album.
“We wanted to make a record that reflected the connections we have within our tight-knit musical circle - All News Is Good News was recorded in our home and played, mixed and mastered by friends from different corners of our musical family.
