《当代汉字学》总结了以往汉字学教材存在的问题和不足，创新性地从从汉字表意性的特点出发，分析了汉字的造字手段、汉字的表意方法以及汉字形体避免歧解的方法，介绍了“提示符号”及其在汉字结构中的作用。这些内容在目前已出同类图书中是找不到的，对于学生和研究者拓展思路、转换角度学习和研究汉字都有着一定的作用。

《白龙江流域汉语方言语法研究》认为：1、经济活动对方言语法影响巨大。它既使方言语法产生趋同性，也导致变异性。在语法变异中，词法变异的较慢，句法变异的较快。句法变异的表现有两种，一是换位，二是叠置。2、经济活动类型的差异加上封闭的地理环境，会产生“方言岛”，也会使方言保存较多的古语成分。3、白龙江流域汉语方言语法中，既有近代汉语的保留，又有周边汉语方言的参与；既有藏语康方言的渗透，又不可避免地受汉语共同语的影响。因而是很有特色的一种方言。4、“古——方——普”大三角结合的理论，不足以解释白龙江流域的汉语方言语法现象，还得增加一个“角”——“少”，即少数民族语言，用“四角”结合的理论来探析白龙江流域的汉语方言。
《白龙江流域汉语方言语法研究》参照了语言接触与变异的理论，采用了描写和比较相结合的方法。

方言文献属于历史语言学的文字、文献材料。迄今为止，尚未见到将全部的近代西北方言文献作为研究对象，系统搜集、整理、研究的著述。作者跟数位同仁用近十年的时间，广泛搜求涉及西北方言的各种著述，试图通过这些文献勾勒近代西北汉语方言的面貌，揭示其演进的轨迹，为历史语言学提供有益的材料，具有开创意义。

《语言理论与语言学方法论》在把语言学的历史、理论、方法有机结合起来的基础上，从总体上阐述了不同语言学流派的语言观特色和方法论贡献。内容涉及历史比较语言学，洪堡特语言学说，索绪尔语言学说，法兰西社会心理学派，结构主义语言学的布拉格学派、哥本哈根学派、美国描写语言学派，生成语言学，社会语言学，系统功能语言学，认知语言学等领域。

It sets out to demonstrate over three volumes, of which this is the first, that the explanation of linguistic competence should be shifted from lexical entry to syntactic structure, from memory of words to manipulation of rules. Its reformulation of how grammar and lexicon interact has profound implications for linguistic, philosophical, and psychological theories about human mind and language. Hagit Borer departs from both language specific constructional approaches and lexicalist approaches to argue that universal hierarchical structures determine interpretation, and that language variation emerges from the morphological and phonological properties of inflectional material. In Name Only applies this radical approach to nominal structure. Integrating research in syntax, semantics, and morphology, the author argues that nominal structure is based on the syntactic realization of semantic notions such as classifier, quantity, and reference. 本书选编了本人自五十年代以来所写的24篇文章其中多是音韵方面的，因为这是我40 多年来学习与研究的方向。音韵的文章分语音史的、方韵学史的方音史的和音韵应用等方面的。
关于语法史与词汇史我学习研究甚少。六十年代初由于教学需要，我为北大中文系语言专业57、58、59 三个年级的同不讲授过3次“ 汉语史”课在王力先生的《汉语史稿》的基础上编写过汉语史讲义《第三人称代词“ 他的起源时代》 一文就是在那时写的。“ 文革” 以后我专教“ 汉语语音史自八十代初至九十年代中讲过的多次也不断修改自己的讲稿虽然丑媳妇总要见公婆的，但还得需要时间做进一步的整理。

This introductory guide to language acquisition research is presented within the framework of Universal Grammar, a theory of the human faculty for language.
