Louise Brooks has become one of the most spectacular icons of early cinema. Her distinctive "bob" haircut looks as modern as they did when she first appeared in films in 1925. Louise Brooks was born on November 14, 1906 in Cherryvale, Kansas, and by eighteen had established herself as a dancer with the Ziegfeld Follies, and was receiving film offers from both MGM and Paramount. In 1928, she starred in William Wellman's Beggars of Life . Meanwhile she was mingling with the high and mighty of Hollywood, having a passionate affair with Charlie Chaplin, spending weekends at William Randolph Hearst's castle and captivating such men as William S. Paley, the founder of CBS. Her brief, yet spectacular role in Howard Hawks' A Girl in Every Port impressed G.W. Pabst, the German maestro who was seeking an actress for his upcoming production, Pandora's Box . He rejected Marlene Dietrich in favor of Brooks, who went to Berlin and made not only Pandora's Box but also Diary of a Lost Girl , forever ensuring her status as a screen icon. This exquisitely produced album celebrates Lulu with rare film footage stills, private photos, letters, interviews, and text by renowned film critic Peter Cowie, exploring this influential cult figure and abiding symbol of the Jazz Age.

The Teller family business produces small parts for string instruments. Juergen Teller has taken photographs of company employees, his uncle and his uncle's collection of hunting trophies. He has also shot pictures in dripstone caves, of Kate Moss during her pregnancy and of himself. In the world of Juergen Teller, it somehow all fits together. Werkstatt--a studio or creative environment--collects, as Juergen Teller does, people and places. It combines scenes from the world he grew up in with selections from the world of beautiful images that he travels in today. Candid, subjective and completely without superficial affect, Teller offers a peek or two into his world. How it all fits together is left up to the viewer.

In the mid-1960s, at the height of his creative powers, Andy Warhol produced hundreds of three-minute cinematic portraits, called "Screen Tests." Although rarely screened now, these short films captured a virtual who's who of the avant-garde, including such cultural icons as Edie Sedgwick, Bob Dylan, Salvador Dali, and Susan Sontag. At last, in the initial volume of the authorized catalogue raisonné of Warhol's films, Warhol authority Callie Angell examines all 189 people captured by Warhol's lens. Stills from many of the films appear here for the first time. Drawing on 13 years of original research into the Screen Test subjects and their relationships to Warhol, Angell provides an unprecedented look at the pop art master's working method, and a unique record of his colorful social and professional life.

Brad Pitt was married in one of his suits, John Galliano dressed in one of his jackets to receive a prestigious award, Karl Lagerfeld never wears anything else, and women as dashing and fashionable as Madonna, Catherine Deneuve, and Cecilia Dean go drag to wear his designs. Hedi Slimane, the young designer who left Yves Saint Laurent to reinvent Christian Dior's menswear image, embraces "the cosmopolitanism of the old-school couturier" as well as "the conventional trappings of the modern-day überdesigner." He reconfigures classical pieces via subtle tailoring tricks, discreetly adding such dandified details as black leather carnation buttonholes, tiny emerald-cut diamond pins clipped to a pant fly, and clear sequins dispersed in the folds of pleats. He is the leader of an anti-technological, anti-velcro revolution that is striving to take men's fashions forward to the luxurious, armorial, sophisticated standards of time past. As Slimane himself has said, "For me, tradition is now." Intermission was conceived and built by Slimane himself as an artist's book. Published in collaboration with Pitti Immagine.

"I paint what cannot be photographed, I photograph the things I don't want to paint....I would photograph an idea rather than an object, and a dream rather than an idea." Man Ray's own words suggest the essence of his brilliant, original, and deeply influential photographic oeuvre. Taking up photography in 1915 for the purpose of reproducing his paintings, he earned money doing the same thing for others when he went to live and work in Paris in 1921. This led to one of the most versatile careers in the history of photography, ranging from portraits of celebrated artists, musicians, and writers such as André Breton, Marcel Duchamp, Erik Satie, Arnold Schönberg, T. S. Eliot, and Gertrude Stein, to the pictures using light effects outside the camera for which he is famous (cliché-verres, rayographs, and solarizations). These photographs are among the most exciting and revealing manifestations of the profusely fertile artistic impulse that made Man Ray equally celebrated as a painter, sculptor, writer, and filmmaker. Besides many classic images, the book includes a number of photographs that had never been seen before, including portraits of Virginia Woolf and of Antonin Artaud and a large selection of erotic pictures. They add up to a truly revealing look at Man Ray, Jean Cocteau's "great poet of the darkroom." 347 duotone photographs.

Elliott Erwitt Snaps is a comprehensive survey of Erwitt's work containing more than 500 pictures, many never published before. From famous images like Khrushchev and Nixon arguing in Moscow in 1959 and Marilyn Monroe with the cast of The Misfits, to more personal subjects, Erwitt's distinctively witty style captures the famous and the ordinary, the strange and the mundane over a period of more than half a century.
The book's nine chapters, entitled Look, Move, Play, Read, Rest, Touch, Tell, Point and Stand, act as a means of grouping and organizing - making broad connections while playing a game of pun and ambiguity in keeping with the visual games Erwitt plays with the camera.
'The hallmarks of an Erwitt classic: the ability to spot an absurd juxtaposition and to record it with childlike delight Ö This tome shows that he hasn't lost any of the visual wit that makes one relish his pictures, while, at the same time, recognizing the melancholy that infuses any realization of the arbitrariness of existence.' (Time Out)
'Rare among photographers, Erwitt can make you laugh out loud (just turn to pages 86-87), but his scope is Tolstoyan. This 550-page retrospective will absorb you for years.' (Independent)
'An essential career-spanning retrospective that reveals Erwitt's unassuming wit, brilliant framing and deep humanity.' (New York Post)
